Original Sokos Hotel Helsinki

The hotel was located close to train station and rooms were spacious and clean. The bathroom was 3/5, unfortunately water was leaking from shower to the whole area of bathroom and I step into that water in my socks after. Nobody likes wet socks. I wish there could be warm vegan options for breakfast

While on the expensive side, this hotel really offered everything we needed. The rooms are very nice, modern, and super clean. The hotel was remarkably quiet, not sure if it's because we were on the end or if there is good sound insulation, or if people are just quieter here. But the quiet was especially nice when you are trying to sleep off jet lag. There are bidets in the bathrooms! Room was spacious enough, with a large closet and lots of mirrors. We had the extra bedding option, which was basically a sofa-bed. It wasn't the most comfortable, but unless you have problems with this kind of bed it was fine. They have the obligatory minibar, but also have complimentary bottled water, hot chocolate, tea, and instant coffee. There's no coffee machine, instead they offer an electric hot water pot. This is fine, because they have an amazing breakfast buffet, that offers international breakfast choices and is delicious. The bread is exceptionally delicious. The milk, cheese, and yogurt are even lactose free, and they offer margarine in addition to butter! Lingonberry juice was a treat, since we never get that at home. Also the mushrooms are a local staple, and they served them on several days with the hot breakfast items, in addition to some really delicious vegetables. We ate so much at breakfast that we rarely were hungry until dinner. The staff is extremely friendly and nice. I have to give 5 stars for the great experience. Criticisms include that in the evenings they only have one person at the reception desk which makes the wait times really long, the room phone doesn't work so you have to walk to the desk if you need something, and there are no washcloths in the bathrooms (plenty of hand towels, but no face cloths). They have laundry service in the hotel, but we were staying almost two weeks so just took the tram 5-10 minutes to a laundromat (that took credit cards) and did a couple loads of laundry for much less than using the hotel laundry service. Also, the price per night is pretty steep, about 320-330 euros per night for three people sharing a room, they charge 20 euros extra per person per night on top of the basic room rate. Lastly, Anna (at reception) gave us the recommendation to try the restaurant Kaarna which she said was her favorite local spot, and she was spot on. It was delicious and a highlight of our food experience on this trip.

I was pleased how well this old hotel was taken care of. Room was cozy. Hardly any noise coming from the busy street below. Extra credit for the bathtub! There was plenty of variety at breakfast and the staff was friendly. Also dined at the restaurant Frans & Amelie. The food was good and our toddler's special needs were also tended to. The parking at Kluuvi next to the hotel was a bit pricy though.

The room was comfortable, quiet, the bad was good. The breakfast was excellent. The staff was professionnal and smiling. The hotel is very well located, in the heart of the city and not very far from the central station.

I got better room than I ordered. It was great suprise! Breakfast was also excellent. Location can't be better, hotel is about 100 meters from central railwaystation. In reception, there was very kind service.

A lovely hotel in the middle of Helsinki, well-located near transport, the central business district, the harbor and major attractions. Excellent staff, excellent breakfast, comfortable, clean, quiet rooms. I will stay there again on my next trip to Helsinki.

Friendly staff, pleasant rooms and peaceful enviroment. Nice restaurants where time flies. In the middle of everything.Breakfast room little bit small, but everything served was good. Extra points for pink grapefruit juice :).

I was pleasantly surprised of the service and quality of this hotel even though it is an older building from almost a century ago, they have renovated it to fit modern style. Because I am a S-Card Premium member, I got an upgrade to a Sauna suite thanks to the lovely receptionist. The room was very nice and had a desk in the middle of the room where I could work. Also the sauna was very good and refreshing. The hotel has also a rooftop terrace with couple of chairs and a Sauna room where from you can go straight out. Location is as central as you can be in Helsinki with direct access to everywhere straight out from the door. I used the Kluuvi parking garage to park it had almost direct access to the hotel. The breakfast was also very tasty.

A very good hotel to stay in the centre of Helsinki, easy to go to everywhere ! The breakfast was fine ja there was enough different kind of bread, vegetables etc. The room was big enough and it wasn't noisy. The room service was very good!

Over the years I have stayed at this hotel several times. This is an excellent hotel in a convenient location. The staff members are very courteous and helpful. I will stay there again the next time I am in Helsinki.
