We have been visiting this hotel for many years and today's carvery was excellent. The staff go out of their way to make the meal a very enjoyable experience. The choice and quality of the meat was very good and vegetables cooked and presented to a high standard. Thank you to the very professional staff and management team.

Just visiting the coast bar which is part of the Royal Beach Hotel but has direct access from the main road. Was hired for a private function with bar and D.J. A good evening with seating and dancing space..

Had to visit Portsmouth urgently on business. Phoned the hotel on the morning of my arrival and enquired as to room availability. I was informed that a there were rooms available, so I booked a double room. I arrived at the hotel at about 7pm on Monday 15/5/17. I was informed that there was no booking made in my name. I checked all of the contact details and it was the correct hotel. No double rooms were available as they were all occupied. I was not offered any alternative. I had to enquire if they had any rooms available and after checking again, I was informed that there was only a single room available.

We stayed here Monday to Friday in May 2017 and it was a great break. We had a sea view room on the front of the hotel - room 208 and it was clean and tidy if a little tired but the room was massive and it is a Victorian Hotel so don't expect cutting edge design. These days with the new development next door you have to make sure you are on the front of the hotel if you want a sea view, which we did. The free parking and WiFi were a nice plus in an English hotel whilst being asked to pay £2 a day to use the room safe was a slip back to another era I felt especially when they admonished you to keep your valuables safe by using the safe. The staff were absolutely brilliant, very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. We wanted to visit the Historic Dockyards and were told which bus to catch from the nearby terminus so we parked the car up and used the bus which was quick and easy. The English cooked breakfast was excellent and the staff cleared tables and refilled the food trays very quickly so even though the hotel was full you didn't have to wait or miss out on any of the options. I discovered scrambled eggs were an option and after ordering them once was offered them every day. The bar area was a little small but the bar food was excellent value, cooked off to order, came in massive portions at a very good price. Staff in the bar again were very helpful and yes there is a big screen TV but the sound is turned down so just face the other way! There are two very small lifts and one is near reception and so is always busy but if you go past the entrance to the left there is another lift near the Fearless Room that is hardly ever used. So either use the staircase - very grand - or walk to the other lift. I am a wheelchair user and the accessible entrance is currently via the staff entrance at the rear of the hotel. Best to ring the hotel to get directions. I understand there is a plan to improve the access but at the moment after ringing the bell someone is meant to come down to guide you. In our 4 days this happened once and after the first time you know your way in any case. When the door opens go to the end of the passage and turn right and follow your nose until you reach the modern lift and go up one floor. All the lights are on PIRs so they will switch on as you turn corners. The wet room attached to the bedroom was great and just needed a couple of mods to be fantastic. The little corner shelf was so thoughtful and helpful. I cannot sing the praises of all the staff enough; they were all without exception kind, helpful and willing to talk. What a pleasant change. We had a fantastic 4 day break and would certainly come back again.

Have visited before had lunch last time.Just had tea this time. That was enough.Awful big screen television. With sports channel on.Very tired bar area.Staff not to friendly.Appalling for disabled people and elderly. They apparently have a staff entrance some where. For disabled people. No sign to tell you that.

We had a family break staying in the Royal Beach. Its position one the seafront was great and I walked the prom every morning before breakfast. The staff are super, they were so engaging and even laughed at my jokes, LOL. Nothing was to much trouble. Rooms spacious and clean . Even though there were events on were quiet. Dislike - The beds were doubles and we are used to a king size. Comfortable, just getting in each others way.

Smashing hotel. The staff are brilliant, nothing is to much trouble. The food is good especially the breakfast, lots of choice. A nice bar area to sit and relax overlooking the sea. The rooms are a little tired but clean and comfortable. There is a car park but very limited for space and really difficult to find street parking near by. We stay at least 3 times a year as our son lives in Southsea and won't stay anywhere else. It's home from home.

Very comfortable stay , sea view room , hearty breakfast although no vegetarian alternative to bacon & sausage , as I did not enquire about alternative it may be available , soya milk on request . Restuarants staff at dinner very efficient , veg options limited but available. Buses run regularly from outside the hotel. Would stay again.

We stayed at the Royal Beach Hotel for 3 nights . The car park was very small as many reviewers have stated but we managed to get parking there and left our car for the duration of our visit. Our 4 floor room had a wonderful sea view which overlooks the South Pier with the Isle of Weight in the background. The room was spacious ,clean and had a very comfortable bed. The Wi-Fi reception was excellent. The traffic noise was minimal and it was not an issue. The breakfasts were very good and the croissants were particularly delicious. We ate in the restaurant for a couple of nights and had the A La Carte menu. The first visit the meal was very good but the second time it was slightly disappointing. The hotel is well situated and there is a bus stop nearby with just a short ride to get to the Portsmouth Historic Dockyard. All of the staff were friendly and helpful and we will return to this hotel when next visiting the Historic Dockyard. Royal Beach Hotel is a good base and a very good place to stay.

Starting with the positives:- Could not fault the room and bathroom. Customer service while checking out was first class. Nice touch the drinking water on each floor, more hotels should think about this. However, even though we were on the third floor it still felt like and sounded like we were in the middle of the many function rooms on the ground floor. Obviously if we had been attending these functions we would not have noticed, but we were not and had hoped for an early night!!!! As has already been mentioned the car park is a little tight so we decided to use the sea front for parking having arrived in the early evening. This was a good choice as parking is free from 6pm till 8am. Overall a hotel for mid week unless attending a function.
