If your into old hotels with flickering lights in the hallway and extremely high ceilings and a balcony where you can't access it from your room but other guests can from the hall and stand outside your window, this is the spot for you! Didn't feel the safest Hotel I've been in. The only good thing was the location. Right on the Main Street where all the restaurants are. Oh and the parking is out the back down a dodgy alley. Was an experience just to say the least.
Big room and big bathroom as we were upgraded to the superior suite. Being located in the heart of the city is great but watch out for parking, we were lucky enough to be able to park right out the front so we had no problems:) I'd highly recommend the Italian restaurant down stairs. Overall we enjoyed our stay, and the room was cozy.
Limited easter weekend hotel availability, and a last min decision to stay in Hamilton after a trip to the geothermal pools landed us at VR Hamilton. Hotel has lost its charm through poor upkeep and general lack of maintenance. To put it nicely. Hotel is in a good central location. Room was acceptable, but just felt old, dusty and dated. They did offer free wifi. The elevator and foyer smelt strongly of curry and incense. It was horrible. Car parking was horrid/shabby. Had to walk past a dumpsters to get from the car to the hotel. Do yourself a favour. Dont stay here.
This place is on a corner location in central Hamilton. Big rooms and very high ceilings. Lots of old world charm but looking a little tired in places. We enjoyed our stay. Beware of allocated parking spot "5" . We made numerous attempts to get in, avoiding pillar,"4's feeble attempt at keeping to his spot" and a wall. Lady at reception was not helpful when saying no other spots could be used............ eventually came around. Great base for a river walk and heaps of eateries nearby. Hamilton Gardens are a must see....allow 2-4 hours.
I dont understand this hotel is still open. Run by people that don't care at all. The building could be so great if it would be renovated but now it's just a big DUMP! Dirty carpets, broken beds, moldy showers, broken tiles, (pubic) hairs on bathroom floors, trash under beds and bed stands, sticky furniture, broken window, wood rot and single glass. I was surprised the AC was working, that was the single one thing that was positive. When we found the room in this state, I went downstairs to complain. Without apologizing he showed me the room next door ( housekeeping went home already, so they could not clean our room). This room was in the same bad state so we decided to not have the hassle of moving all our stuff to another dirty room. It was later in the evening and we were hungry and the kids sleepy so we just wanted food in our bellies and go to bed and not check out and look for another hotel... The parking is another issue. Do not trust them if they tell you there is free parking. They have a few spots in the back, but once these are taken by guests or others you're out of luck! Also, pretty shabby place to park your car. Stay AWAY as far as possible, I cannot believe booking sites still offer this hotel :(
I was mortified at the state of this Hotel on my arrival, as the pics speak for themselves, I'm shocked that a Hotel that is in such a disgusting filthy state is still operating, this place should be closed down to be repaired & cleaned up, it's a health hazard !! 😡
As the title suggests... its an old fashioned hotel conveniently located in the center and very confortable. We never had stayed on such a big room! The bed was huge, bathroom enormous also. We didnt got a y kind of views, but it was ok. Friendly.staff on reception
Stairwells were all damaged from what appeared to be earthquake damage, on review it appears this was incorrect and was infact water damage. The building had signs of it everywhere. During my stay, around 9pm, i had water dripping from the ceiling onto the carpet within my room.
Not all rooms are as good as the best photos that you see on hotel booking websites. I`m sure there are some deluxe rooms available but if you book a standard double room you may well be disappointed, I was. Drab and well worn sums my room up. The bathroom was big and also well worn. The only view was on to an inner courtyard smoking area. I`d say that I had a room 20 years out of date. The Wifi was poor too
Good points: size of rooms, comfortable beds! Bad points: misleading info on booking site mini bar? Alarm clock? Parking? Unhelpful staff, we booked room with spa bath to find it was out of order, phoned reception to be told "you have a shower" Moved rooms to a room with a terrace, spa bath not the cleanest, tiles dirty, cracked panes of glass on terrace doors and I see that Reception Manager is blaming people staying night prior for breaking glass!!! Not one apology for inconvenience or any extra effort given! Beautiful rooms, sizewise and I'm sure in it's day was a very grand hotel. Sadly, hotel is in such a poor state of disrepair. Back entrance to hotel is SO DISGUSTING, vomit and urine and God knows what else caused that smell and is right next to restaurant kitchens! We had to cover our noses from outside our room to car park! Major health hazard! Poor service, poor management and poor excuses. You need to deal with each complaint personally instead of saying "next time" give us another chance to fix things to every complaint. We couldn't wait to get out of here! I don't ever complain but this hotel experience has really upset me.
