The A&O Hamburg City is fairly close to town centre, it's walkable, but better to catch the rail services just around the corner (Berliner Tor). This is a reasonable budget hotel by any standards, but they are amazingly cheap. I paid €97 for 3 nights, so €33 per night. Breakfast are extra at €7. Everything you might want for a budget stay is here. My room had basic facilities, but they were fine and everything clean. So, bed, bed linen, duvet, towels, windows opened, quiet when shut, big radiator, shelving, table, chair, locks worked well, free wifi (do-able), shower room clean, it drained properly (hurrah), liquid soap for both wash basin and shower, plastic cups, female hygiene things, plenty of hot water. They do basic housekeeping each day (empty rubbish, quick wipe over etc). Breakfast are in a large, clean refectory and all you can eat. German of course - rolls, cheeses, meats, yogurts, fruit, coffees, teas. In the hotel in general there are lots of common areas with bags of seating, a large bar area, adequately stocked. The bar isn't expensive. There are several lifts and they work after a fashion. Mainly this place is aimed at students and 20 somethings. For me as an old man, I loved being in among all that youthful energy and optimism. Reception was slow, you'd be wise to avoid busy hours.

This place has gone downhill a bit since my previous visits. It must be hard to maintain a building this huge. There are literally miles of hallways in this colossus, and with all the twists and turns and doorways, it can take way too long to get from one part to another. There is a guest kitchen, but good luck finding it! Most every elevator had some problem which was really annoying. The location of this branch has seems like an industrial zone, and there is absolutely nothing to do nearby. The rooms however were very spacious, with separate en suite shower and toilet. and there are supermarkets and the bus station is nearby. Acceptable if you just need a place to crash.

I couldn't open my room door and the receptionist made me wait more than an hour of queue because people were checking in , he was really rude to me instead of reactivate my key wich was his own fault and only takes a second to do , they are really slow and give a really unprofessional service !!! I'm so dissapointed and of course I won't booked again because of the horrible service !!!

Checked in after a 40 minute wait with a whole 3 people In Front of me!! Only to be told to come back after 3pm to actually be given a room. Came back at 4pm thinking an hour would be enough to let the que go down a bit. I have just walked into the biggest queue I have ever seen in a hotel. Not seen my room yet but will definitely not be coming back due to the lack of check in staff available. Very poor customer service.

We went to Hamburg for the weekend, arriving we are shocked to see this huge line for checking in, it was horrible, it took me more then 2 hours to get to reception, and worst was to see staff joking around and have laughs between them and just making it slower the whole thing. Besides, the rooms were not very clean, was by far my worst experience in Hamburg

It was a last-minute booking, granted, but they charged 315 Euro for a tiny 4-bed room. There was space for nothing but two single beds and one bunk bed. It would be impossible to fit anything else in there. The furnishings, corridors, amenities, etc. are very basic, hostel-type. When we arrived, we had to wait for 2 hours in line to be checked in. Never more. (The breakfast was OK, though.)

It was a fairly busy weekend in Hamburg with a cruise show and a football match and a room for two was about £86 or €95. For this price, the place was poor value. We had a hard to find large but soulless room on the 8th floor. There were huge windows with curtains that didn't fully cover the windows. The beds were not hotel standard and there was a loud argument in the corridor at six in the morning. On the positive side, the linen was spotless and the bar open 24hrs. Some of the residents found this very useful. I shan't be staying again.

Stayed here with a top deck tour. Firstly our tour guide was at the reception for a good 30mns plus only to come back and tell us that some rooms were ready. Mind you this was after the 2pm check in. We were told that the reception "don't know" when the room.will be ready. After exploring the town I came back at 8pm. Room was ready but I had to make my own bed.. . So I don't actually know what exactly they meant by the rooms weren't ready beforehand if we have to ready it ourselves. Had to wait well over 10mns in a huge line at reception to get to my luggage in the luggage storage. I also asked for another room key and was met with hostility and with a key card that didn't even work to the room Nothing can impress me now so I am writing this review before I've even slept one night here

Doesn't worth the 80Euro/day at all. Full of young teens drinking and smoking in the reception and in front of the hotel door. Cleaning is only replacing the bins but no bed sheet replacing/cleaning, no floor cleaning...nothing at all. very small TV. The only good things were the Wifi and the location. Overall experience, I don't recommend at all unless you're teenager with your friends may be.

Nice hotel, nothing fancy but everything is present. We used this hotel for an overnight on our way to Berlin. We booked a family room since that includes a private bathroom. The towels are good and so is the shower. Breakfast is worthwhile booking. Plenty of choices and comes with fresh fruit. The wifi is of high quality.
