Guangzhou Marriott Hotel Tianhe5.0 out of 5.0

This is a nice hotel with typical Marriott amenities. The staff on the executive floor were attentive and provided excellent friendly service. I can't say the same about the fellow at the front desk check-in. He was down right rude. The room was nice and clean though they could have provided a little better selection of amenities in the bath room. I actually like to use a bar of soap to shower instead of bath gel. We remedied this by picking up a bar at Watson's. So while all in all a good experience minus the minor nit picks, this hotel has one very major drawback if you are frequently in and out of the hotel in a car or taxi. The traffic at the corner where the mall is is impossible. It was not uncommon to wait 20 or 30 minutes to make the U turn so that you could go around the block and get to the hotel. Also the main subway entrance is a long walk.
The staff was very warm, friendly and really helpful. They really make us feel at home. The hotel is really clean and the cuisine was not bad. One of the best points of this hotel is the location. Located between two big shopping malls in the city centre and it's quite easy to get anywhere else from there by subway. We decided to pick this hotel thanks to Terry's suggestion and we will definitely repeat whenever we come back. It was the right choice.
As a Marriott member, I only stay at Marriott because I enjoy Marriott property and services. However, I have to say, Guangzhou Taihe Marriott is one of the best Hotel me and my husband stay. Great service, great personnel; they care lots of details and they try very hard to make your stay an unforgettable experience. Especially the staff at Executive lounge; Percy and Josephine, went above and beyond every time we came to visit. this is why they won our 100% royalty and we will not consider another hotel when we are in Guangzhou!!
In the beginning, I was a little peeved that I couldn't get a break with the price. Ok, I understand that hotels generally charge more when they are at maximum capacity (just like the airlines). I didn't cry about it, but I was going to inspect every inch of the hotel! My wife and I stayed 6 nights. First, the sports facilities: This is really just one of two hotels in Guangzhou that have a decent sized swimming pool! I spent a lot of time checking all other 5 star hotels. Most have only outdoor pools. This was perfect 29 degrees and clean. Second, their sauna, steam room and jacuzzi work perfectly and are hot! No waiting 30 minutes for them to turn on. Even have a nice jacuzzi near the pool. No mold anywhere and spacious lockers. The gym has all the basic equipment you'd expect and in new condition. I'd like to point out their interesting steam room - it's completely tiled on 5 sides with small 1 centimeter tiles. Usually that presents a maintenance nightmare as the tiles tend to fall out. I can say that not one single tile is missing. Impressive! The rooms were spotless as well and on par with 5 star amenities, fixtures, bedding and design. Breakfast each morning was spot on with a great selection of fresh breakfast & dinner food. All fresh and replenished timely. The subway is nearby and the hotel is centrally located right next to a large mall. There's even a 38 lane bowling alley near the stadium in front of the hotel less than 10 minutes walking distance. We had the opportunity to try The Executive Lounge the last night. They have a "happy hour" from 5:30 to 7:30 I believe. I have to say that it was better than good as they had real dinner food as well as the cute looking hors d'oeuvres, fruits, desserts and drinks. So, if my back was pressed to the wall to find something, perhaps I'd say two things: 1. The hotel should get Fox News in addition to the regular CNN. Far more viewers watch Fox now anyway and 2. The swimsuit dryer in the locker room only works if you know how to read Chinese and even then it takes 10 minutes to slowly spin dry. They need the common, professional spin dryer that does the trick in 10-15 seconds. Most sports facilities have the quick dryer now. The staff at every level and in every department was absolutely terrific! A special mention and thanks to Mr. David Ou, the Senior Guest Service Manager who was always in the lobby available to help in any way and was sharp as a whip to keep things running very smoothly! So, in summary, I arrived armed to give a scathing, critical report, but ended up loving it as it is a truly A# 1 hotel in Guangzhou and we will surely be going there next time in Guangzhou! My goodness, I sound like I work for them - I assure you I do not. In fact, I'm traveling half the time these days throughout China and my TripAdvisor readership is almost 90,000 now! Howard S.
It’s the first choice for me to stay in Guangzhou. The environment of the hotel is very exquisite. I enjoy the Cantonese cuisine in the hotel restaurant. Dishes are very well-presented and delicious. The staff is friendly and helpful. There’s a very satisfying check-in. In the heart of CBD and close to public transport.
We were in Guangzhou early July 2017 for two weeks to complete an adoption. We had a deluxe room on the 14th floor. Check in went smoothly and we would have never realized there was a language barrier. I really appreciated the security of the hotel. The lobby is not on the ground level like other hotels. It is on the 5th floor and to get to the levels above 5, a room key is required. I appreciated that and the staff were all excellent. Every morning when we would go for breakfast, we would be met with the sweetest, welcoming smiles. The front door staff were wonderful too and when we returned each day, they would hold the door and say, "Welcome home." I also loved having a Starbucks in the lobby...huge bonus for me because I am a coffee fanatic. I am so grateful to the staff at Marriott for making our stay in China so fabulous. We will never forget the hospitality and generosity of the staff, who daily went above and beyond to make us feel at home. We will return and recommend it to every adoptive family that we know.
Overall, the Marriott Tian He was a great experience. Starting with the basics in the room, it was clean, well decorated, spacious, had an interesting view and big windows, the shower was large and open and had nice water pressure, the wifi was very strong, there were international outlets, a full sized mirror, and the beds were extremely comfortable. Some down sides of the room were the lighting and counter space. There were bright lights in the room but they were in the wrong place and reflected weirdly off the walls which affected the entire room. Another down side was that the counter space in the bathroom was very small. It fits around 2 toiletry bags at the most which can be frustrating if you are traveling with more than 2 people. Other than that, the room was very nice and comfortable. The facilities were also quite decent. The pool itself was big and clean, while the surroundings were peaceful and comfortable. But unfortunately, the pool only went to about 1.4 meters. If you are looking for a really good foot massage, the spa at this hotel does not offer it; which was quite disappointing as Guangzhou is known to be the origin of foot massages. They do, however, offer many variations of full and half body massages. The workout gym looked very pleasant. Although I didn't get a chance to use it, I took a walk through and all the machines and weights seem to work well and are very clean. The lobby and entryway were very luxurious. There are always people at the door who greet you on your way in and out, and people who help operate the elevators; small things that make a huge difference. The staff are also very friendly and helpful, and they all make an effort to speak English. Checking in and out was quick and straightforward which was great. The wifi in the lobby is different than the wifi in the rooms. Here, their wifi is super slow and barely works. The restaurants inside the hotel are very tasty. The surroundings and decorations are very creative and nice, and the staff are superb. Breakfast at the City Bistro was a very nice experience. Every morning, I sat in the same area, therefore I had the same waiter. His name was Jay, and he was excellent. He was quick, accommodating, and very friendly. The food at the City Bistro was good and had a nice variety, but the shrimp chang fen stood out. It was delicate, full of flavor, and freshly made. Their cappuccinos are a must have, but their lattes were not as good. Dinner at Man Ho was also a great experience. The food was very tasty and was good quality. I recommend ordering the jellyfish and the Australian M9 beef. They were super delicious and I couldn't get enough. The staff were also great. Our waiter, Ethan, was very nice and helpful. The Man Ho Restaurant is a bit pricey, so check your bill. The location of this hotel is pretty much perfect. You are close to many subway entries, shopping malls, restaurants, and the sports center. The subway is very easy to work and inexpensive. The underground stations are lined with many fun shops that make walking underground to your train much more pleasant. A ride in one direction ranges between 2-8 yuan, and a day pass is only 20 yuan (4 CND). There are many shopping malls piled along the same street as this hotel, although the best one, in my opinion, is the City Centre across the street. This center gives a very different vibe whether you go at night or during the day. At night, all the stores and surroundings are lit up and so are the buildings in the background. At this time, you can really see all the beautiful architecture within this area. During the day, you can see all the landscaping and gardening that surrounds the center. All the gardening is lush and beautiful. The best thing about this center is that it is partly outside. You can either walk outside or inside from store to store which makes the experience a whole lot nicer. There are many restaurants around the hotel as well. Between the 4-6 floor in the Grandview mall, there are many different styles of restaurants ranging from a quick take out/fast food or a nice sit-down meal. The sports center is close by, and there many underground routes to get there which could be fun to walk. Quick notes: * Starbucks downstairs * ATM right by the Starbucks (easy to miss) * The machine where you buy tickets at the subway does not take bills larger than 10 yuan
I have the chance to stay in this wonderful hotel for a week with my family and I'm impressed. I have to say that every aspects of this lovely hotel made me want to stay longer and a week were not enough. The room was comfy and clean. The bathroom was big enough not to mention the view from my room was straight at the unique shopping mall across the hotel. There was also a Starbuck outlet on the first floor. Next to the hotel was a huge Grandview shopping mall. The hotel staffs were all friendly and helpfull. I can't think of anything bad or annoying during my recent stay except probaby that I have to explain to the restaurant staffs every morning during breakfast that I had paid for all the breakfasts because they asked for my daughter's height (she is 6) and told me that I have to pay for her breakfast, which were already paid for in full from the beginning when we booked the room.
Everyone from housekeeping to Manager was gracious, friendly and smiling. Staff was top notch. Very nice swimming pool. I enjoy dining in hotel restaurants. The dishes are very attractive and delicious. Evening food at executive lounge can be improved, but staff are courteous, friendly and helpful. I want to send my appreciations to the following staff: Management team: Ms Christy Lv Executive Lounge: Josephine, Felix, Kobe, Stephy Concierge: David Restaurant: Mr Ginese Li, Toby, Susu Chinese Restaurant: Shirley, Jane and San I will come back when I go to Guangzhou again.
Mr. Carson Tam, Resident Manager Stay: 6/26-28/17 Party: 3 - my spouse, daughter and myself Long story short: I lost my watch in the hotel gym the morning I arrived from the States. I reported the loss to Mr. Evan Wang, Front Desk Manager. The next morning, while outside touring the city, I got a text message from Mr. Carson Tam of Marriott to call him. He told me that he located the watch! I couldn’t believe what I heard. Through his keen eyes, sincerity, tactfulness, and care for his guests, Mr. Tam managed to get my watch back. However, I had to leave the city the very next day but I told Mr. Tam that I’d be in Shanghai in a couple of days. By the time I checked in to Marriott City Center Shanghai, my watch was waiting for me. It was/is such a wonderful positive story to share! And I am so happy that it happened in Marriott. If it happened elsewhere, I doubt very much to have my watch back. Let me thank Mr. Carson Tam, Mr. Evan Wang, and the staff very much again, I am very grateful for their professionalism, dedication, sincerity and compassion. I will remember this event and mostly on how happy and appreciative you make me feel. My family and I will always stay with Marriott! There are a few malls, shopping center, restaurants, etc. nearby the hotel. There is a Starbucks in the hotel lobby. The staff are very professional, helpful, efficient and polite. The bed and bath room are beautiful and spacious. We will return and stay with Marriott Tianhe. I highly recommend this hotel.
