Excellent spa facility - exceptionally clean and comfortable with great attendants. We all dined at Moxi after our spa treatments, and the food was delicious and the service excellent, but leisurely as befits the Mexican culture.

We took another couple out to dinner with us to celebrate our 20th anniversary and all four of us were disappointed in the service. The food and drinks were very good and the restaurant & bar are very attractive. Arriving early, we were told we could have a drink in the bar upstairs and waited about 10 minutes before going back downstairs to advise there was no bartender up there. Then they tried to seat us between two tables full of smokers on the patio. We ordered dinner and were never asked if we wanted to start with a soup or salad, we never had any bread at the table, our drink orders were delayed twice, and one of the entrees we ordered wasn't available. We were asked twice if we were celebrating anything special and both times we said our 20th anniversary - but they did nothing for it - why ask? We told the waiter we weren't very happy with the service, so he did comp dessert, which was nice. However, for the money, we would not go back.

Booked a room on line last fall for a May wedding. Canceled it a week or two later when we were able to book the Rosewood. Did not receive a cancellation number but the website no longer showed a reservation under our name or reservation number. Verified a couple months before the trip that the website no longer showed our reservation. Thought we set until we received the charges for the stay a week or so before travel. Imagine our surprise and dismay. Tried to resolve this with the hotel management who were unsympathetic and put the charges through. We stayed at the Rosewood (awesome hotel and highly recommend it) and had a wonderful time. Trip sullied by the Matilda's foible. Have tried to resolve it with them since, explaining what happened with their website to no avail. Can't speak to their on site services, just to their website and insensitive treatment. We will be actively avoiding the Design Hotels properties in the future.

We went for a couple spa package and it was AMAZING, the service, the spa section, the hotel, everything was perfect! They had different cabinets for couples and the whole experience is worth the price.

We came here for a wedding! This hotel is clean and staff are very nice and helpful. The bad part is the front desk would not break US money for smaller bills.. $100.00. They charge for waters in the room that you need for brushing teeth etc. The stairs have no lights, very dark!!!!

We stayed at Hotel Matilda for a long weekend in July and were delighted with our stay. The whole hotel had a very sleek, sophisticated vibe, and our room was spacious, stylish and comfortable. For a small hotel, the amenities were great - we took advantage of the fitness center (small but adequate) as well as the pool - as were the food and drinks. Service was generally very good, particularly at the upstairs bar and at Moxi, though we did encounter a slow and confusing checkout process at which we were required to produce a printed receipt from indicating we'd paid for the room in full in advance. On the whole, a great stay and we would be very happy to return.

I’ve stayed at Matilda twice over the past four months, both times I’ve really wanted to like it and both times it has fallen a little short. The rooms are nice, spacious and practical with big beds and bathrooms. At first sight the hotel is perfect, but issues start to arise almost as soon as you’re shown to your room. On one of our stays, the issues had to do with the room itself, more specifically with the bathroom. Things that didn’t work were not huge, but never-ending, a toilet that didn’t flush, a shower that wouldn’t turn off, a bad smell coming from the bathroom, etc. People from maintenance came quickly every time we called the front desk, but as soon as something got fixed something else broke or malfunctioned. I think the room should be fixed properly before having anyone else stay there. On our other stay the room across from ours was occupied by a family with three small children. As all children do, our tiny neighbors woke up very early, their parents allowed them to leave their room and play in the small patio right outside our door, with resulted to us waking up before 8:00am first to exited yells and then tearful screams form the children. When we called the front desk to ask for their help they said they’d send someone to ask them to play somewhere else, but help never came, after that we kept on hearing crying and very loud voices throughout the day without the hotel staff doing much about it. There are a lot of hotels where children can have an awesome time without disturbing other guests; Matilda, with its patios and pool closely surrounded by rooms, is not one of them. With the steep price and boutique feel of the hotel we were expecting to be able to relax in a quiet environment, it was disappointing not to be able to rest. In all fairness after complaining for the third time we were offered a room change for the second night, but the experience in general was dampened by our first 24 hours at the hotel (we spent less tan 10 hours in the new room). Matilda is one of those luxury hotels that could be amazing, but falls just a little short on the delivery. We’ll be trying Casa No Name or the Rosewood on our next trip to San Miguel.

I can see why his hotel has positive reviews. If you need beautiful AND predictable, then stay here. From the moment you arrive you'll be happy. The location is directly around the corner from The Rosewood Hotel. Both are outside the center of town. If you stay at The Matilda you can ask if you can use the gym at The Rosewood for $25 per day.

Excellente hotel for your visit to San Miguel de Allende.... this colonial city is full of art and enchanting sunsets... Matilda is very well located and has te best of the best in everything .. you wont go wrong!!!

We had stopped in this pretty little hotel on several previous visits to San Miguel. The serene entry courtyard always beckons with its white washed walls (although I missed the painted birds from the past) and lush gardens. So we decided to give it a try this time. I booked a terrace room and was glad that I did as the rooms, while super comfortable, are not particularly spacious. So the addition of a terrace gave us a bit more elbow room and a good deal more privacy as well as a lovely place to have a morning coffee or an afternoon tequila. The bed was comfortable with nice linens and the bathroom was beautiful, spacious and functional. The staff were all friendly and helpful and the common areas--the bar, the lobby/sitting area, restaurant and pool area are all stunning and beautifully designed. Our only complaint was the bait and switch of the breakfast included. On Sundays they offer only a large expensive brunch buffet and the "breakfast included" was a pastry and a cup of fruit and coffee. We could not order a la carte even if we paid. So our choices were paying for a huge brunch or settling for a pastry and coffee. That was a bit disappointing. So we wandered down the street to a nice cafe where we ordered eggs al gusto, heaping cups of lattes and plates of fresh fruit. Too bad that one unnecessarily unpleasant experience tainted what was otherwise a wonderful stay. I will be back though and I highly recommend the hotel. Also worth mentioning is the quiet, yet central location of the hotel. It's in a very nice part of the town on a pretty quiet street yet within easy walking distance of the center of town as well as parks and cafes.
