We stayed at this Quality Inn on our way home from Florida to Virginia and we had stayed at this Quality Inn several years ago. We like Quality Inn because of location and it is normally a good value. The difference in this Quality Inn is unbelievable. The entire motel shows wear and tear. It is not being maintained. First the key would not open the door, it took 2 extra trips to the office. The lights and AC unit were not plugged in. The carpet absolutely filthy. Bathroom tile was broken and hanging. Bugs were flying around in the room. There was a strong odor in the room. Bathroom door scrapped the floor and the entry door showed light at the bottom. We will never stay at this Quality Inn again. And we may never stay at another Quality.
This hotel was fine, after a long drive. People mentioned the sound of trains... did not matter. Note: could not see the sign for the hotel. It is not right on the road. Good night's sleep. Good continental breakfast.
We chose this Quality Inn due to the proximity to I-95. A few pros: very easy late check-in, clean all around, very nice breakfast area with a selection hot and cold items. A few cons: Close to railroad tracks (heard whistle a few times), the A.C. unit was pretty ineffective. Overall, a good stay while in route South. Comfortable bed, good breakfast. Good value. Would stay again.
We stayed at this motel on our drive from Florida back to NY. We made a last-minute reservation here mostly because it was a great deal, which should have been a red flag. To their credit however, it is conveniently off of I-95, which is a benefit. Unfortunately, and PLEASE NOTE, it is located very near railroad tracks, so you can hear trains loudly passing even in the middle of the night. Kenly is definitely less-frequented stop by travelers than is Rocky Mount, NC [which is where we stayed on the way down], which might be a reason the rates were fairly low. We arrived around 11pm, and the check-in went fine. The front desk agent was very helpful and friendly. Our room was fairly hot when we entered, and it took awhile for the AC to cool everything down, so it made it a little hard to sleep in the beginning of the night. It was dated, but clean, otherwise I would have opted to sleep in the car! [Extreme cleanliness is a MUST for me to even consider staying in a hotel] It had a flat-screen TV that we didn't use, a mini-fridge, and was pleasantly surprised with the amount of charging outlets in the room. It did have an odd odor, but of cleaning chemicals, so it was tolerable. In the morning, the breakfast, though free, was disappointing, even compared to other Quality Inns we've stayed in the past. There wasn't a very good selection, but the food was fresh enough and the breakfast area [which doubles as the lobby] looked clean. The front desk agent in the morning was very nice as well. Pros: -Right off I-95 -Very friendly staff -Free breakfast Cons: -Right near loud trains that have no problem passing at any time of the night -Slightly dated and battered-looking facility -Fairly hot room when first checking in, and it took awhile for the AC to cool down the room
Stayed here last four years. This year room smelled of bug spray so we asked to change. Were changed but staff did not note change and at 4 am people were trying to get into our room to stay there also. Rooms also not clean anymore. Will never stay there again !!!!
We stay at a lot of Choice brand hotels, because they make it easy to travel with a dog. Most of their hotels are fine. This one seems to be in decent shape, but they don't appear to want customers. On entering our room, we found the floor covered with an oily liquid. Front desk said she couldn't give us any other room as this was the last pet room they had, though the parking lot had only three other cars in it. The manager was "not available." The front desk offered no remedy. I got her to find me a room at another nearby Quality Inn -- see the review for Quality Inn Selma NC.
I stayed at the Quality Inn (NC229) on I-95 exit 107 and US-301 in Kenly, NC on the night of May 20, 2017. All of the hotels at this exit are sub-standard; it’s a bad spot to decide I’ve had enough driving for one day. The Quality Inn looked to be in the best condition of the cluster of hotels at that exit. The room rate was too high for the very basic accommodations. But it was unwise to be picky, as more driving was out of the question. A sign on the wall next to the front desk boasts a 99% sanitation rating, whatever that means. The floor was dirty, with ground-in grit that does not sweep away with a broom. Nothing short of wet mopping with elbow grease and frequent changes of water would clean that floor (not just the bathroom floor). I figured that if I kept my socks on, I’d be fine. When I checked out the next morning, the clerk listened to my request that the floor of Room 102 be mopped. She did not bother even to pretend to write down the room number and the request. Perhaps she knew that mopping a floor is beyond the overwhelmed housekeeping staff. I am bothering to write this letter because the clerk did not bother to pretend that she would inform housekeeping of the need to mop that floor. If the clerk had gone through the motions – pretending to take note of the room number – knowing that I was checking out and would never know whether the room would be cleaned, I would not bother to write.
The room was nice however, some of the towels which were suppose to be clean were dirty and placed with clean towels. Room was "checked" daily yet not restocked. Location is good and parking was abundant.
This property is located in one of the less-visited places on the I-95 corridor, and it is lovely. We arrived without reservation and were welcomed and treated nicely. The accommodation was comfortable, clean and attractive. Not bad for a road-side stop-in for a couple of weary ones.
We are fighting bed bugs after our one night stay in November. Check your room before you make your self comfortable. Bedbugs are not welcome hitch hikers. The room was "free" through the reward program. Free is costing us $500+ to get rid of the bugs.
