Park Farm

Excellent inn in the country.

The host was very helpful and friendly. He recommended excellent restaurants and activities and provided good maps and directions to them. He was again very friendly and helpful at breakfast and checkout.

Durham Marriott Hotel Royal County

Nice hotel, good location

The hotel is well located very near the center - the bridge that links to the center of Durham is just across the street. The hotel has a car park, so this is a good choice if you want to be near central Durham but don't want to drive on narrow streets. Basically this is a Marriott and is quite similar in many respects to Marriott hotels everywhere. There is no local charm and the decor is very generic, albeit comfortable. It's a good business choice, not so great if you want to feel like you are in England. There is a Starbucks inside the hotel. The elevator is under renovation.

Surtees Hotel

Close to everywhere to the city center

Staffs are friendly, breakfast is modest, and the room is comfortable. The only downside as of June 29 is that the elevator i/ out of order and I have to climb stairs to my room on the third floor. Other than that, everything is perfect.

Holiday Inn Newcastle - Gosforth Park

Great location

The Holiday Inn Newcastle was a great location for a person who is taking several day trips while in England. A large well lit free parking lot is on site. This is often hard to find in a lot of European communities. It has quick access to several main arteries in the Newcastle area. By using their breakfast buffet, you can be on the road quickly first thing in the morning. They are also located right next to a gas station for that last fillup before heading to the Newcastle Airport. The rooms are large, clean and comfortable. And did I mention that nicely heated tile floor in the bathroom? One of the drawbacks included computers in their business center which wouldn't connect with the internet so I couldn't confirm my flights on line.
