This hotel is well situated adjacent to St James' Park, the Newcastle United football ground with dedicated parking (£8 per night) within an open public car park opposite. Parking is free between 1800 x 0800 if spaces are available. The hotel is impressive from entering with an easy and efficient check-in. On this occasion I was allocated a large room with a well-equipped included kitchen. The bed was large and the shower room was excellent with both a rain shower and adjustable hand shower. My view was on the opposite side to the football ground which whilst not exactly scenic was interesting. Whilst the other rooms I have stayed in have not been quite so grand they have been excellent. The breakfast is a limited cold buffet and not exactly a startling hot buffet but it is more than adequate. This hotel is number one choice for me when staying in Newcastle with a superb bar which will be subject of a separate review.
I was racially abused and the hotel staff did not make a very good effort to find the culprits! They charge me VAT when I am exempt from paying VAT! "We have no one from the accounts team, we are very busy!)
Pictures of the room as well as the drinks we ordered from the bar. Really nice service, great conversation with us as the customers! the rooms are a bit cramped with the toilets being beside it however it wasn't too bad.
I stayed here for 1 night on Friday 18th of August with my partner as our 6 month old son got babysat and it was the first time we got a chance to have a break away, the staff on reception are very friendly and we're great checking us in and out, the hotel room was gorgeous and room 117 has a lovely kitchen in it and a sofa so you can sit and watch telly. The only downside Is the bed was very hard so didn't have a great sleep and the extractor fan was on all night so we could hear that, we still had a great stay though.
We stayed here for my partners 40th birthday and left unimpressed. Upon arrival we checked in by a somewhat cold lady. She barely gave us eye contact and we had to ask for two keys for the room as she only offered us one. I mean it's pretty simple two people equals to room keys. On the website it exaggerates the room. King beds etc with microwave etc. The rooms are very small for two people. I've seen a lot bigger for and for a more reasonable price in other hotels such as Novotel. The drainage for the shower is awful. Water gets everywhere. Good central location and some of the staff were friendly and helpful.
we had a large disabled access room ( we are not disabled) which had fitted kitchen and microwave it was very clean and comfortable a bit awkward using the bathroom basin as it was set low for wheelchair user, I used the kitchen sink in the bedroom to clean my teeth. The only down side was the extractor fan outside our window which made a noise all night. we were told the next morning it should have been switched off at midnight. Breakfast was nice and the staff were helpful.
It says 24 hrs room service but when I asked for food to be brought up at 9.30 in the morning I was told as I hadn't left the room tag on the outside of the door by 1am I could not order any food.but I could have drinks brought up. As I had my grandchildren with me because my daughter was getting ready for her wedding, I had to go to nearby greggs to get them what they wanted. Also I was never told that it costs £8 per night to park your car opposite the hotel in a council car park,as being disabled I found this to be grossly inconvenient.
Reception staff were fab on booking and checkin. We arrived early and our room was ready. Room was nice but a king room only had a double bed ! apart from that pleasant room with a view of St James Park . Don't think would like to be there on a match day. Breakfast was included in our room rate but sadly it was a rather poor offering.
Staff really helpful and friendly, but certain parts of the hotel are not very clean. The Shark Bar where you have breakfast is very grubby, seats are all stained. I appreciate its a very busy bar with it being across from the football ground but it smelled like a back street pub, not somewhere I wanted to eat breakfast. The blinds were broken on two of the windows in our room, I never complained because we were only there overnight and wasn't bothered. I'm sure if I had the staff would have sorted it. Don't think i'd stay again but its fine for what i paid.I've stayed in nicer hotels in Newcastle for around about the same cost.
Booked this hotel for my daughter and son in law for their Wedding night!! I rang a couple of days before to pay for the room and staff couldn't be more helpful even when it didn't work!! I called in early that morning to pay and drop their overnight bag in!! Reception staff were so lovely and ensured that they would put the bag in the room ready for the newly weds. I spoke to my daughter the next day and her words were wow!! Their room had been upgraded to a junior suite, a bottle of champagne waiting for them, rose petals and the next morning breakfast in bed!! Thank you very much for giving my daughter and son in law the best that they deserve!! Hopefully I will get to stay in your hotel very soon
