The hotel is decorated fabulously. Could cater for a large number of people. The leisure faculties were amazing. Big pool and a great hot tub. The changing rooms were very modern and spacious with a effective layout. Apart from the pool, the hotel also had a fantastic gym facility with a excellent selection training equipment in exceptional condition. However, the elevator did not work correctly in the hotel. The hotel was clean and the staff were friendly when we stayed at the hotel but the hotel did not have a great atmosphere. Bedrooms were laid-out sufficiently but was very near the road. If you opened the window you had the noise of the traffic travelling by. The menu in the hotel bar and restaurant was reasonable but bit expensive for the quality. Had good parking area. Average customer service. Fantastic areas to sit down and relax. The hotel is more suited to a business traveller than a family on holiday.
Awful hotel. Not family friendly. Placed my baby on bed to dress him and he started roaring see image below. Staff unhelpful. Sunny in particular needs to address customer service skills. They did offer a voucher but i did not want to ever use hotel. Awful place. Do nothing to help Galway City
One of the reasons we booked into this Hotel was for the swimming pool. Unfortunately the pool was taken up with swimming clubs at the time of day most Hotel guests would like to use it. The children's pool and more than half of the main pool were closed off to residents, no mention of this on their website or in the Hotels information in your room.
The biggest plus here was the reception staff. One name I did get was “dream”, ok Aisling. She is a real asset to the hotel and for the city of Galway itself with all her careful directions and tips. Next on the plus side is the location of the hotel, there is convenient public transport into centre of the city (Eyres Square or to Salthill) which I would recommend using because the traffic coming out of Galway city centre can be jammed and the buses have their own lanes to speed by everyone. Thirdly, the rooms are clean and well maintained though nothing outstanding. Fourth, the atrium outside the breakfast area was the most charming aspect of the hotel (couldn’t understand why everyone wanted to sit in the breakfast room itself, but were quite pleased to have the whole area to ourselves) -also having afternoon coffee and tea there is very enjoyable. However, the hotel’s bar restaurant was disappointing. The portions are big but frankly not with a lot of taste. (Just like what mother might serve on a bad night). I would though stay away from their pasta dishes in particular .– Yes they throw in a lot of chicken with the pasta but they really need a Gordon Ramsey to come in and give their cooks a one day work over of their menu to allow them to concentrate on just doing a few dishes . . . . well. (Never mind trying to cover the whole food dish spectrum – I would say that would be a bridge to far for the current cooks). Finally, the décor of the restaurant is very uninspiring / lacking in charm, and the wait/serving staff could use some smiles on them. The hotel also serves many functions/meetings so there seem a lot of non-hotel guests about. This can be interesting given the function but a hotel’s star rating is based on facilities and I do believe that if a pool is part of its star rating it should be dedicated to the hotel guests (and the Clybaun’s pool and spa is open to non-hotel clients). Understand fully the business reason for doing so but I would say there should be a 3.5 star rating in this case. In short for the pluses mentioned above we would recommend staying here and coming again.
What a fantastic hotel. The staff were just the most friendly group ever. From the moment we arrived at reception my family were met with smiling friendly faces. We ate in the bar on the four nights and each night the staff were both friendly and looked after our every need. Top marks to all the staff. We will be back next year. Would advise the owner to give them all a Xmas bonus
We stopped in here for a quick bite to eat and had a lovely dinner in the bar. Staff were very friendly and efficient. Food was lovely. Even though there was no water that day the staff carried on as normal and made us feel very welcome. We even stayed for desert.
VERY nice and servceminded staff!!! A clean hotell without charm. It smelled fish in the breakfastrestaurang both days. No new clean coffecups when they cleaned the room. Slow elevator and long walk to the room 242.
You read the reviews and I think the negative ones were removed. Check in was good, the beds are hard and pillows flat. I phoned and asked for a better pillow or if upgrade was available and was told they were all the same. The breakfast was the worst I’ve had in Ireland and worst service also. Very disappointing, after researching the other comments. Have to make the best of it as we are staying for another two nights😞
Love this hotel. We come at least once a year with our 2 girls 15 and 13. Rooms are clean. Staff are so friendly. Girls love the pool. Very family friendly. There is even a child check in area for little kids to "check in" which I'm sure they must love. Highly recommend
We stayed here overnight before heading to Connemara, Hotel was recommended by a friend. The check-in was pleasant, room was nice and comfortable. We went to the bar for food and while the Ireland match was on the place was a bit busy but service was good. Food was nice but felt my dish (fish) had probably been left at the hot counter for too long sauce was stuck to the plate. The following morning I woke up sick and when I went to the desk the guy on duty ( I think his name was Kyle) kindly made a doctors appointment for me at the nearest GP within walking distance. I found his service to be excellent especially when I was feeling unwell (tonsillitis- nothing to do with the food). I would stay here again and would also recommend. I was only sorry that I didnt get to use the leisure centre, had heard good things.
