Stayed for 1 night , the room was clean but stuck in the 70’s , no headboard , flat pillows and dated furniture .. needs a refurb and brining up to ‘boutique’ style Breakfast was ok , nothing to write home about , we had to drain mushroom liquid off our plate ! The general manager and the gentleman who checked us is were very helpful and pleasant so could Not fault them at any all so 5stars for them There was an issue with water in the village but we were told of this and given bottled water which was welcome The lounge where drinks were served had been done up which was nice The drinks at 6.30 were again welcome but would suggest instead of spending money on that they give the bedrooms rooms a make over to ‘boutique’ style if they want to carry on calling themselves that We would not stay again

The hotel is in the centre of Fox Glacier very close to all amenities and restaurants and places to book helicopter flights. It’s a great base to explore Fox and Franz Josef Glaciers. The hotel room was a reasonable size with its own bathroom. It was very clean and tidy and comfortable to stay in. The hotel staff on reception were exceptionally helpful to point out places to eat and visit. There is breakfast available to suit all tastes without being over fussy. It was a great place to stay in a wonderful surrounding of NZ countryside

On arrival, our room had not been vacuumed (there was enough trash on the floor to make this inarguable); the sink was unwashed; and there was left-over food in an unplugged room fridge. The manager offered us a handicap-accessible room (we would not take this, in the event that a later-arriving guest might need the accommodation) or a room remote from the rest of our group. We elected to stay in the first room. My wife asked the manager for a towel to clean the sink; he made no effort to have the room serviced immediately - even if he had to do it personally. Instead, he ranted to us about the poor quality of his new employees. (We later learned from a housekeeping person that his style is to lecture his staff, rather than checking up on their work.) There were tens of dead flies on the floor of the guest lounge, so evidently our room was not the exception. This hotel was clearly run on a shoestring. There are lots of places to stay in Fox Glacier or Franz Josef; I'd suggest you look around.

This hotel is absolutely lovely! It was very tidy, had all the amenities needed and staff were helpful and friendly! I like that upon check in, the counter staff presented a map of Fox Glacier and Franz Josef town and recommended us things to do, where to eat (we visited over Christmas and he even informed us which restaurants will be open) and what to see. Ample parking available as well and you can park near to the lift, or further in where it is easily accessible from your room to the lot. An overall very pleasant experience staying there!

The hotel is lovely! Enjoyed the QUIET rooms, large comfortable bed and great shower. Plus there was a huge shower that we didn’t get to try. Nice extras - CD player in the rooms, and the guest lounge with big comfortable couches. Lovely dinner too- the venison and the salmon were nicely done. Friendly, attentive staff. Can’t speak to value, as this was booked by our group tour, but very pleased with our stay

This hotel was extremely clean and neat. It was simple but very adequate. In the room there was a small kitchenette, free Wi-Fi, and hair dryer, There was no safe. The bath had a shower and tub. Paid laundry was available for guests. The staff was fantastic and the food was good. Located a short walk from the glow-worm forest and helicopter ride over the Glacier. This was a pleasant surprise and I loved staying here,

Stayed here while visiting Fox Glacier. Staff was friendly and helpful and rooms were clean and comfortable. Also had one free drink during happy hour. Breakfast was good but no dinner service. Only complaint was poor and weak WiFi. Know it's remote but other places in town had much better signal. Even my mobile data was better .

My husband and I are traveling through New Zealand on our honeymoon, and we had the privilege of staying at Distinction with Christian and his absolutely lovely staff for three nights. We were planning on two nights initially, but extended our trip due to some early Spring weather, and we couldn't have been in a better place to rest and relax for a few days. The delicious cooked breakfast each day was such a treat, the fireplace in the cozy lounge provided a perfect backdrop for a quiet read, and especially after many days of hiking and traveling all over, we had everything we could possibly need. Comfortable bed, great shower, and above all, the kind and friendly truly above and beyond service of manager Christian made our stay a highlight of our trip to New Zealand. Couldn't make a higher recommendation! (Be sure to walk around Lake Matheson, eat dinner at The Last Kitchen--we did all three nights, it was so good!, and take advantage of all the other short tramps/hikes in the area. Even in cold and unpredictable weather, we had a ball!)

We had a lovely stay at Distinction - the rooms were very spacious, clean and had amazing views. Staff were absolutely fantastic - we accidentally left a laptop in the hotel before travelling on to Wanaka and Christian went above and beyond trying to track us down and get it to us. After a huge effort on Christian's behalf, we finally received it - and we can't thank him enough!

One of the best rooms I stayed in over my two weeks of traveling in both North and South Islands. The bed was very comfortable, the room beautifully furnished, and no t.v.! Instead of a 'box', there was a serene and lovely view of the forest right outside our sliding glass doors that we appreciated continually. The main lodge is attractive and rustic as you would expect with a large lounge holding several sofas and chairs, a big fireplace and hearth, and historic art work and photos. You can get wi-fi in the lodge, mainly, which is typical of hotels in the region. Nice restaurant and bar, accommodating staff, and plenty of information on where to walk and hike, spot wildlife, and take nature tours. I was sorry we only spent one night here - so relaxing and pleasant..
