This is an extremely nice hotel.the rooms are spacious with nice bathrooms and quality products.the balconies are fab.we did not use the hotel for dinner as many coach tours going through.we did have breakfast which was what you expect from a buffet.i dohate those toast machines and having to make your own tea.if you do stay here and i think its amongst the best here please try toget a room with view towards the glacier,it is worth any extra you might pay

The area is of course based on the glacier and the town is quite small. The hotel is comfortable and well located for the local amenities . It's on the main road leading to the glacier site . The staff were helpful and helped to make our stay memorable !

Way too expensive for what you get and poor customer service. We were placed on a first floor room that had no barrier between the windows and the street so anyone passing by could see straight into the room if the blinds were open. On top of having to be in a dark cave of a room for two days, the carpet was incredibly stained and dingy and the bathroom floors had not been cleaned based on the stains around the toilet and shower. When we told management, they said they would do what they could to remedy the situation, just to have the travel agent we booked with contact them directly. Travel agent has contacted them and the hotel has said the room was as advertised and they will not provide any reimbursement for the subpar room that cost over $250 a night. Do yourself a favor and stay somewhere else in Franz Josef!

This hotel is conveniently located. Neat. Clean. Has everything you would need or want. Rooms are comfortable. We had a room facing the glaciers. We pulled the curtains shut and since it was soo quiet and dark in the AM we slept in very well :) This hotel was a bit pricer than the rest of our overnight stays in NZ but I believe it was that way because of the remote location and the limited options in the area for mid-range hotels. Franz Joseph is a remote location so the town quiets down early and there is a limited selection of groceries in the area- if you are looking for something specific you may want to buy it before you head out here. Restaurants also shut earlier so if you are not coming until later I suggest you eat dinner before arriving. I would strongly recommend the heli-hike up to Franz Joseph and finally make sure to do the glow worm trail. You walk 10-15 minutes into the woods along the trail and see the glow-worms begin as soon as you are 5 minutes in. You can leave around dusk and the hotel will loan you a flashlight/torch for the way back. Make sure you are wearing comfortable shoes.

When randomly found this amazing hotel on our way across NZ and asked about free room for one night at the hotel desk, we found the hotel staff incredibly willing and pleasant. Especially Mr Umesh who made our one night stay even more splendid by his personal attitude and care about our comfort so we could enjoy our night as much as possible. Thank you very much, we must come back.

The hotel is composed of different buildings, of which the rooms are normally on the ground floor. The rooms are quite decent, with good facilities. There are no gym or swimming pools, so this can be somewhat like a resort to relax. There is a nice view of the surrounding mountains when you have breakfast in the morning. If it is a clear day in the morning, you are in luck as the view is very beautiful. (Most days are cloudy, as what we were told.) The running water is not very hot though, but decent enough to keep warm, especially on cold mornings and nights.

We stayed at Scenic Hotel Franz Joseph Glacier as part of an AATKings coach tour. The grounds are beautiful and setting nice and quiet country. Dinner and breakfast were very good. Well done! The configuration of the hotel is in different wings. We stayed in the Douglas Wing.

Located at the corner of the main road, this hotel offers the best views. It is very convenient and within walkable distance to eateries and all major activities that you need to do at Franz Josef! Staff members are friendly and helpful.

We had a room with a view to the glacier and mountain which was fantastic when the sun was out. Happily early in the morning and in the evening that was the case. The hotel was an up market motel with numerous coach parties and groups using it. We wanted to use the restaurant one evening but clearly coach parties had booked it out and a table was only available very late. Happily there are numerous restaurants very close by. The room was clean and spacious and well appointed. We were a little disturbed one evening by a family chatting loudly in the next room - the walls are clearly very thin.

This is a great place for travelers visiting the Glacier Country. Very convenient and centrally located, friendly and helpful staff. Rooms are large and nicely appointed with space for luggage, a well equipped kitchenette and a nice bathroom with nice tub with jets.
