The room was very small but we also had a single bed in our room in addition to the double, the room would have been much better without the smaller bed. So that's where our suitcases ended up just no room for them anywhere else. Plus we did not have air conditioning & I'm sure with it being such a small room that didn't help. You do have a door to the gardens & the outside seating area but it's communal on picnic benches. The layout is like a motel although you can't park that near to your room but with it's open plan it's easy to cut across the grass to the few shops & restaurants in the town, though some said they did get late night noise.
Room was big enough. Our room had a good view. Do not think location matters in Franz Josef. We stayed 2 nights and since it was full we had to book individually and book 2 different room types, at check we were checked in to I've room for 2 nights which was good, problem is we were not informed if we were downgraded or upgraded for one night. Had to go to room and figure out, we were downgraded and they were happy to move us the next day. We eventually stayed in the same room. Only complain is we should have been informed.
A two night stay as part of our month trip round NZ. The view from our balcony and landing was breath taking. The room was excellent and of a good size with two double beds. The bathroom was a good size, the towels however were not soft and f!uffy like in many hotels. Very rough, but I am being picky. Breakfast was the usual buffet, plenty of it and well organised. The hotel overall is beautiful, we felt very lucky to be able to stay here. It is also well located for the town. A very quiet location. We sat on our balcony to a sound of tranquil silence. It really did feel like you had your own tree house in a rain forest.
We spent 2 nights and really enjoyed our stay. Very comfortable rooms although as it is so popular and there is no AC (windows open) things are a little noisy. The breakfasts are the best so far in NZ but the dinner menus in the 2 restaurants are a little bland. Avoid the venison burgers as the meat is very poor quality and very chewey. The King Tiger restaurant is better. The staff are extremely pleasant and helpful
Very good location within the town - easy to walk to helicopter bases and restaurants. Excellent meal on arrival despite restricted menu due to road closures caused by storms. All staff were very helpful whenever we had requests/questions. Breakfast very good. We stayed in room on 600 floor - good position.
Nice check in and pleasant staff. Room very clean and well looked after during our stay. There is no air con which made it very uncomfortable during our stay of +26 C. The room was spacious and no real noise from other residents but don't expect any quiet during the day as the heliport is over the road with helicopters taking off almost constantly during good weather. The glazing does not help. The buffet style breakfast which we ate twice was very good with plenty of choice. Not a lot of storage space in the rooms. Almost non existent WiFi signal in the room we stayed in. Limited parking spaces near our room.
Room overlooked a bar,and car park and road, told staff how disappointed we were and they moved us across the corridor. Suggest u pay extra to upgrade ( we tried but no places available) in the end the rooms look basic but they weren’t, asked for fan and large one supplied so heat not a problem. Breakfast the best we have had on island and dinner was superb. ( ask to go upstairs, to eat it’s quieter (( away from huge coach parties)) view is lovely , service was excellent hot pools open and wonderful to relax in
What I remember is that it was 32 degrees and there was no air con in the room. It wa oposite where the helicopters take off so it wa very noisy, the windows were not double glazed. No matter how good the room the lack of AC was the overrriding impression I took away from my stay.
A very nice hotel, close to everything and quiet. Don’t waste your money on the breakfast to expensive and not worth the cost! The hotel was a little pricey for what it was but the whole area is. The glacier is a must see and we went to the wildlife exhibit a good rainy day thing to do - the hot baths were not working when we were there
We’ve been travelling Australia/NZ for 2 months, and so far, this has been the worst level of accommodation experienced. Our travel agent did explain that good accommodation in FJ was very limited. However, this is our view .... Seriously bad. Also, no air con. This is why we are sitting outside admiring the busses 🚌 😱
