We liked the hotel, location and staff. The only downside was the lack of an elevator. We'd happily stay again, but would ask for a lower floor next time.
At first it was tricky to get to the hotel because it was raining and my GPS went crazy, took a taxi from Santa Maria Novella train station which absolutely ripped us off by charging 10 euros but whatever. We were nicely welcomed by the multilingual staff and they graciously gave us a room on the 1st floor (there's no elevator). Room size was actually pretty big, bathroom and shower were tiny (you've been warned). They provide amenities, free breakfast and wifi. Breakfast is lovely. The attendants make coffee and deliver it to the table, everything is pre-set and they even have fruits. Close to everything, 5 minutes from train station, less than 10 from Uffizzi and Duomo, right next to Mercato Centrale. I even ended up staying another night!!
We very much enjoyed our stay at this hotel. The room was very clean and comfortable. The breakfast was very good (especially the cappuccino!) I loved the staff! They were all terrific. Best of all it was in a terrific location! We look for value when we travel and we definitely found it in this hotel. It was very reasonably priced and I would recommend it to anyone who is looking for a reasonably priced hotel in the heart of Florence. Be aware that there is no elevator, but that was a minor thing for us. We stayed on the first floor as opposed to the street level so it wasn't bad. The rooms are small but comfortable. Our room had very tall windows with shutters and very high ceilings. We didn't hear any noise really with the windows closed. We'd like to say ciao to everyone at the Nuova Italia especially Daniella, and we very much look forward to seeing everyone again.
The location was excellent. An easy five minute walk from the train station and within walking distance of all major attractions. The staff was helpful and the breakfast was good with a variety of fresh fruits, coffees, croissants and jams. A market with fresh fruits, wines, cheeses, breads vegetables and foods is right around the corner. A simple and clean hotel that was a good value for summertime in Florence.
