We had a very pleasant stay at Hotel Xelena. We had a nice-sized room. The bathroom had a bidet and a narrow jacuzzi tub. It was a little small for 2 people -the door opened up against the toilet. The food at the hotel was very good, and the staff was very friendly, but very few of them spoke English. I didn't mind trying to communicate in my very limited Spanish, but if you don't know any Spanish at all, it could be difficult. Our room had a lake view. The level of the lake was low due to being blocked by the Perito Morena glacier, but that is not their fault. The location was convenient for visiting Los Glaciares National Park. I would stay there again.

This hotel is a bit out of the city center but has shuttle hourly (15 min drive). Our room had a nice view, room was large and the pool area outside is nice and pleasant but that were all the pros. The bathroom is small and dated, there were only cc 2 plugs in the wall, wifi is free but extremely poor, the heating is also done by the split air conditioner which is very laud and does not work properly. In early morning you surely wake up due to the laud walkie-talkie discussions in the corridor by the staff. As said the pool area is nice but you are not allowed to have any alcoholic drink there, we wanted to have a beer and it was prohibited... The breakfast is average to a 3-star hotel and the waiters are not too friendly. You heve to pay extra for a normal espresso which is far from being an Italian espresso. The food/sandwiches at the bar are ok on the other hand. This hotel was probably a super modern one 10 years ago but it would need a strong facelifting and also more customer-focused staff.

The hotel building is very nice, the suites are large and comfortable and (some) have wonderful views. A bit far from the city center but the hotel have regular and plenty of shuttles. Breakfast and dinner are good. Staff could be more friendly, specially at the reception. Nevertheless, helpful. Wi-Fi connection is terrible and some improvements should be made to stop the spreading throughout the building of the typical pool smell from the spa. This doesn’t match with the 5* status...

Hotel rooms are clean and tidy; nothing fancy but they are a good base to centre your trips out to the glacier. Beds are large and comfy and we had a beautiful view of the lake. Bathroom was small and a bit dated but overall it's to be expected - agree with some other reviews about the star rating, but note that you don't pay a 5* price so have a think about expectations if you are surprised upon arrival. Downside for us was no kettle in the room; instead they charge room service for cups and a flask of hot water. Breakfast was adequate, as per other reviews it's not expansive but it does the job. We ate one night in the bar - it was okay nothing special. I had pasta and it was tasty but very thick so cut most of the filling out the ravioli. I preferred to take the free shuttle into town which takes 5 mins so no hassle. Was running all day as far as we could see. The last one into town is 2200 (with last return 2220). A big plus for this hotel was the swimming pool. Very clean spa area and nice and warm in the pool. Outside swimming area was fun too. A taxi from the airport to the hotel (2 adults and luggage) cost us 480 pesos then the same guy picked us up for return to airport for 350 pesos. Overall I'd stay again, and so would recommend it, but don't go with high 5* expectations!

This boutique hotel might be a bit outdated here and there, rooms could do with a touch up... but the service and the view really makes up for that. Belen at reception sorted our day trip and when departing at 5:30 am the bar makes you a little breakfast before you leave! Sauna is small but again the lady that tends to it is so hospitable. Pool not so big but nice and toasty and most of all... the view!!! Breakfast ok.

The hotel is located near the marsh and lake (Lago Argentina). depending upon the season there are even flamingos to see from the hotel. The hotel provides shuttle service to town on the hour from 11am-7pm. Takes about 10 min. You can walk but it is a long walk! The staff was very courteous and helpful. Bar had a good selection and the food was pretty good! Most of the suites have great views of the lake and snow covered mountains. Highly recommend this location based upon some of the other hotels we saw in the area.

This is a decent hotel with adequate facilities and very nice views of the lake. However, in my opinion, neither the rooms, dining , service or recreational facilities deserve a five star rating. It is really an acceptable but not even excellent four star experience. The restaurant, restaurant Mora, offered what looked like delicious meals but undoubtedly our most disappointing dinner in two weeks in Argentina and Chile. It was overpriced and mediocre. The food at the bar was fine and much more reasonably priced. The acoustics in the rooms are poor so you can hear your neighbors conversations.

We checked out yesterday from a two day stay at the Xelena in El Calafates. The Xelena is a comfortable hotel with a good view of Lago Argentino. The hotel is built on a hill overlooking the lake and one must walk down the hill and across the street to reach it. It is a protected, marshy area off the lake but also a home to flamingos. The lobby is plain but clean with the bar off to the right. Check in was easy and the front desk staff very helpful. The room was comfortable but lacked a coffee maker. The bed was comfortable although the sheets were a bit rough. The were two chairs which is good as many just have one. Other than that there is a safe and the bathroom was well appointed (water pressure in the shower is lacking). The hotel has a breakfast room but although there are eggs and bacon, there's not a large selection of anything else. We found it a bit lacking. The hotel has a high end restaurant but we did not try it. We did eat at the bar, which has a good selection (hamburger was good but chicken sandwich was very dry). The hotel offers a shuttle to the downtown but the last return to the hotel is 7:30 pm, too early to catch if one is eating dinner in town. A cab ride is approximately one hundred pesos. All and all, a good hotel but not great.

The hotel is a boutique hotel. The views are stunning. The food at the bar is pretty good. The pool is indoors and there is a jacuzzi too. I recommend it. The breakfast is pretty complete. The front desk can arrange for tours. Perito Moreno Glacier and Estancia Cristina discovery tours are worth every penny.

The Xelena hotel is a very comfortable, clean, spacious hotel with stunning views of Lake Argentino . We were in a room with lake view . It was very quiet and spacious. The hotel staff were very helpful and cordial. The breakfast was very good. We enjoyed casual food at the bar. We enjoyed the heated pool and the spa. It is a five star hotel locally, that means in the Santa Cruz province not internationally. With that said it is a great place to stay . We couldn't be happier with the time we spent at the Xelena, look forward to another stay.
