I’ve been there many years ago in winter and I had a very good souvenir, and was enjoying coming back. That time, we chose a junior suite, one of the reason being the Nespresso machine seen on the pictures describing the room on the hotel website (yes, I’m a coffee lover and getting a good coffee in Patagonia is not as obvious as it seems). When we arrived, no machine, and we were told the picture was an error (still it didn’t change two months later and probably won’t change), that only the list of features of the room was an accurate description, which was not true neither (for example, the remotely controlled curtains were “missing”). Also, there were only two small cushions on the bed (there was nothing in the description, but that’s far from what you expect in a “5 stars”). The room itself was nice, but finally not at all worth the price difference (and you’ll get a better price using a broker than using the hotel website). The breakfast was excellent, the welcome drink ridiculous (exclusively limited to either a Blue Curaçao or a Sprite).
The hotel is very good and the staff are very friendly and helpful with an excellent service culture. The rooms are comfortable and the beds firm. There is a restaurant and a bar that serves less formal meals. Very comfortable, easy place to be. Can get a room with a view of the lake.
The hotel is excellent. It is not in town but you can definitely walk to town and back. The hotel has a shuttle that can take you in, we used it a couple of times and also walked to town. The streets are well illuminated so at no time did you feel that you were lost or in any danger. There are a lot of homeless dogs that are used to people walking by. We did not used the spa because of lack of time, but we would have loved it. Great place to stay I would go back. By the way, the food is excellent anywhere in Calafate, so enjoy!
Very nice people ,the hotel i mean rooms , is not a 5 stars , but the restaurant it is a must and really 5 stars on service , on menu , on quality recipes, and superb food and products, good but small pool and all the staff with excellent mood and behavior
Rooms were adequate but in need of some updating. Shower water pressure was so so. Room was clean Wifi slow but this is expected and typical in remote location. Wifi disconnects you whenever you stop using it for even a short amount of time so you must keeping re logging on. Rooms were a bit noisy. Individual climate control in each room. Indoor/outdoor heated pool About 30 min walk to town or you can take a shuttle from the hotel once an hour.
Food, service, location, staff, cleanliness all really good. Shuttle bus service into town very convenient & reliable. The views of Lago Argentino from our junior suite were spectacular. Being able to run along the ‘promenade’ along the lake was an unexpected bonus. Only let down by a very average bathroom.
For the cost, this is a nice hotel. Just a few things to consider. First, WiFi can be weak in the rooms. More importantly, it has a very irritating disconnect function. If you log on and then leave your device untouched for several minutes, it will disconnect and require you to log in again. And, if you are think your iPad will do it automatically, it will not. We spent half our time logging in. Second, it can be a little noisy. Sound travels from room to room, especially in the bathrooms. Other than that, ok. The restaurant was bette4 than we expected.
Hotel is well designed and located in a very quiet location about 2km outside the main town Centre. You can walk along by the lake into town which takes about 30 mins, but it’s a beautiful peaceful walk and well worth doing, at least once. Otherwise you can grab the free bus or pay about 110 pesos for a taxi. The food but in the bar and at breakfast is excellent and while we didn’t get to sample restaurant, listen to feedback from other guests that too was certainly worth a visit, we just didn’t have the time. Spa/pool while small has a lovely location and has everything you need, loved the outside part of the pool. Staff couldn’t have been more helpful.
The staff was really helpful, large room, clean, good location, and I’d stay here again if I was in town. Great breakfast, they gave us a free welcome drink that was delicious, and they had a nice game room with ping pong and a pool table.
This a not a very sophisticated or developed part of Argentina and a review of this hotel needs to make allowance for that. The grounds are not very pleasant, although somebody is trying hard to develop a garden in the thin soil but the lakeside position is pleasing. We were greeted by friendly helpful staff and this continued throughout our stay, only one chap working in the restaurant and bar perhaps needs to learn to smile even if just occasionally. Our room was big enough and the bed large and comfortable. The bathroom small and dated with some dilapidation. Walls are thin with sound carrying from both sides and from above, but we were not too troubled. No coffee or tea making facility nor complimentary water but we found the Wifi worked well enough for us. 25 minute walk to El Calafate town with its shops and restaurants. It lacks a certain charm but we were curious. Roads and pavements bad by European standards. We ate in the hotel restaurant each of our 3 nights and we were very happy with the food and the service. We might have saved a few pesos by going in to El Calafate but for the quality we were content to stay in. Breakfast just about OK, There was a reasonable choice but extra for coffee if not from the urn ( actually it was ok) and for cooked eggs if not the scrambled from the hot tray. As we were here for the Glacier we were not looking for a resort hotel and Xelena Suites suited us.
