Xelena Hotel & Suites4.0 out of 5.0

The Xelena was clearly one of the top hotels in Calafate, but needs some TLC to really earn its 5 stars. That said, our room was super spacious with a wonderful view of Argentino Lake. The bathroom clearly needs to be redone. The pool area was really nice with an amazing view of the lake. The restaurant was excellent, but the service was slow and uninspired. The breakfast area was well appointed and well organized. The lobby bar was welcoming and the barmen superb. The people at the front desk were very friendly and super helpful.
Had a wonderful three night stay here. Absolutely unbelievable views! Facilities were fantastic. Food and drinks top notch too. Gisella was extremely helpful and assisted in booking excursions and giving valuable advice with her extensive local knowledge. I would not hesitate to recommend Xelena Hotel. Thank you!!
We stayed in a few hotels in El Calafate and this was by far our favourite. It's more boutique and extremely gay friendly, also perfect for couples. It's a little bit outside the city (which is not a bad thing at all!) right by the lake where you can go running. They have a free shuttle bus every hour to the city and back in case you need to go into town. The best part is their swimming pools- it's the perfect place to relax in after a day out trekking.
Very friendly staff bound to too many rules to make the customer feel at home. I got more sorry sirs in two days than in any hotel ever. However... receptionist Gisela is probably the best helpfull, proactive host ever. Infrastructure is good but no five star, and a bit anonymous. Still good Base camp for the trips in the neighbourhood. U are last to board the busses and first to arrive.
Room and bathroom were really large. We got great help from front desk. However quite far away from downtown, requiring to take free shuttle which leaves every hour from hotel. Swimming pool on the lower floor is quite small but offers great view over the lake.
We were forced to find a new hotel on relatively short notice and ended up here. We were concerned about some negative reviews that were posted. It was fine....modern, clean and comfortable although a bit sterile and characterless. Breakfast was par for the course. I think the 5-star rating sets too high of an expectation for this property, but it doe not deserve the bad rap. The pool was nice and it had a great view over the lake. The free shuttle made going downtown a snap, and it was a short cab ride ($5) without the shuttle.
Nothing to write about this either way...just a boring lack-luster property with a decent hot pool. Rooms badly need renovation, they are clean though. Perhaps for the price a better hotel would be available...the hotel is far from el calafate town.
We stayed here as part of a tour with A&K. To be sure, this place suffers from comparisons with the other places on the tour (The Four Seasons in Buenos Aires, the Arakur Ushuaia, the Singular near Puerto Natales and the Ritz-Carlton in Santiago). But we didn't find some of the criticisms of other reviews to be true. Many have written that the walls were thin. We did not hear anyone even though there were people from our tour on either side of us. Many have also panned the breakfast. We found the breakfast to be fine. If you want some scrambled eggs, breakfast meats, pastries and fruit, there is more than amble supply. I would put this place on par with a Best Western or Hampton Inn in the U.S. The room is basic, but comfortable, albeit a little worn. Most rooms have a good view of Lake Argentino and the staff appeared to be responsive. My main concern about this place is that it seemed to have problems with some of the mechanical details: one of our tourmates had a room safe that didn't work; others reported that the remotes for the binds didn't operate. I had some difficulty getting my room key card to work consistently. Overall, however, this place isn't as bad as some of written.
Good hotel and 5 minutes drive into town by taxi. Views are great. The pool are us tired and not very spacious. The hotel is located approx 1 hr drive by coach to Perito Moreno glacier, worth visiting. Breakfast was good, it has a game room with a table tennis. Staff hotel very helpful.
This hotel is better prepared for groups than individual travel. Excellent restaurant and helpful staff but rather impersonal central area with small pool and spa. Some distance from the town which makes visits more complicated.
