Xelena Hotel & Suites

Food, service, location, staff, cleanliness all really good. Shuttle bus service into town very convenient & reliable. The views of Lago Argentino from our junior suite were spectacular. Being able to run along the ‘promenade’ along the lake was an unexpected bonus. Only let down by a very average bathroom.

For the cost, this is a nice hotel. Just a few things to consider. First, WiFi can be weak in the rooms. More importantly, it has a very irritating disconnect function. If you log on and then leave your device untouched for several minutes, it will disconnect and require you to log in again. And, if you are think your iPad will do it automatically, it will not. We spent half our time logging in. Second, it can be a little noisy. Sound travels from room to room, especially in the bathrooms. Other than that, ok. The restaurant was bette4 than we expected.

Hotel is well designed and located in a very quiet location about 2km outside the main town Centre. You can walk along by the lake into town which takes about 30 mins, but it’s a beautiful peaceful walk and well worth doing, at least once. Otherwise you can grab the free bus or pay about 110 pesos for a taxi. The food but in the bar and at breakfast is excellent and while we didn’t get to sample restaurant, listen to feedback from other guests that too was certainly worth a visit, we just didn’t have the time. Spa/pool while small has a lovely location and has everything you need, loved the outside part of the pool. Staff couldn’t have been more helpful.

The staff was really helpful, large room, clean, good location, and I’d stay here again if I was in town. Great breakfast, they gave us a free welcome drink that was delicious, and they had a nice game room with ping pong and a pool table.

This a not a very sophisticated or developed part of Argentina and a review of this hotel needs to make allowance for that. The grounds are not very pleasant, although somebody is trying hard to develop a garden in the thin soil but the lakeside position is pleasing. We were greeted by friendly helpful staff and this continued throughout our stay, only one chap working in the restaurant and bar perhaps needs to learn to smile even if just occasionally. Our room was big enough and the bed large and comfortable. The bathroom small and dated with some dilapidation. Walls are thin with sound carrying from both sides and from above, but we were not too troubled. No coffee or tea making facility nor complimentary water but we found the Wifi worked well enough for us. 25 minute walk to El Calafate town with its shops and restaurants. It lacks a certain charm but we were curious. Roads and pavements bad by European standards. We ate in the hotel restaurant each of our 3 nights and we were very happy with the food and the service. We might have saved a few pesos by going in to El Calafate but for the quality we were content to stay in. Breakfast just about OK, There was a reasonable choice but extra for coffee if not from the urn ( actually it was ok) and for cooked eggs if not the scrambled from the hot tray. As we were here for the Glacier we were not looking for a resort hotel and Xelena Suites suited us.

This hotel is mediocre at best. The internet was horrible. The inter room phones were down the entire 3 days we stayed there. It is very old style and looks like it has not been updated for many years. Standard stuff is missing. No tissues in the room. No light at the desk. No washcloth. The staff was OK. Breakfast was adequate. they do provide good van service into town.

This place was selected for us by Southern Exploration tourist group in Seattle when we toured Patagonia and we didn’t do the home work by checking this hotel ourselves. The place is way outdated and had a terrible location. El calafate is a small city but this place is about 10-15 min drive from the centre. There is a shuttle that leaves hotel every hour to drive to city center and then pick them back. The last shuttle in the evening is at 10.20 pm and if you have a late dinner which is very common in Argentina you are out of lack or have to walk in the dark about 30-40 min back. Restaurant in the hotel is way overpriced. Breakfast buffet is ok but all extras, eg Expresso (very diluted) is extra. Gym had one machine and no air conditioner, pool is indoor, small, humid but has a lake view. Some rooms do have lake view but most don’t, rooms are not sound proof at all, furniture condition is below well worn Marriott courtyard, lock box in the room doesn’t work, toilet barely flash.

Simple and beautiful! The view of the room is splendid! So peaceful and calming. The pool is a bit small but is nicely decorated. I didn’t try the massage but my aunt did and she said it was relaxing, worth the money. The location is a bit far from the Main Street but they have shuttle bus every hour until 9:20pm. If you missed the last shuttle, walking back from Main Street is around 45 -60 mins, I think it’s ok if you’d like a walk after dinner.

The hotel is OK, but by no stretch of imagination it can be considered - as they claim - a 5 stars hotel. Room are fine, but the remaining parts of the hotel are in urgent need for renovation. The pool is small, the restaurant unappealing, large, with far too many tables and just average menu... Staff is efficient and nice, and the shuttle service to the town (around 10 minutes) is convenient. In short, nothing really bad about the hotel, but there are probably other more attractive options in the area.

We spent 3 nights in that hotel as it was booked from the agency. First they provide a so poor WiFi that it is a hassle to connect your device. Second the staff beside the reception is absolutely not dedicated and professional. Third, we gave some laundry and out of 10 pieces they lost 3 witch we had ask for several times. Fourth, the rooms are absolutely not soundproof. Fifth, the breakfast buffet is just ordinary. The only positive point is the nice lake view if you have a good room.
