Boutique Hotel La Cantera

The staff, room comfort and breakfast made this a very nice stop in Calafate. The hotel has character and is on the edge of town up hill from the main town centre. If you have a car, as I did, the location is not an issue. The staff were lovely, friendly and helpful, including going the extra mile for me after I had a problem, that could have been a big one. If you don't feel like facing the crowds down town there is a restaurant on site which serves simple but tasty fare served with the same friendliness characterised by all of the staff.

Great staff. Spacious and comfortable rooms. The breakfast was delicious, with an amazing variety. The hotel is a little off the main road but it is a walkable distance. We were also connected to a great taxi that took us to the glacier on our schedule. Overall one of our favourite stays in Patagonia.

Clean with friendly staff. Just outside of the center of town but only a short walk away. Also offer a free shuttle. Room was plenty big. Breakfast was great. Stayed at several hotels in Patagonia and this was definitely the nicest.

Everything perfect, very kind and helpful personnel, nice rooms, good breakfast. Sited beautifully, a little outside the center, free shuttle back in the evenings till 10.30 pm. Beautiful view over the lake.

Paper thin walls, tacky decor, no temperature control in the room (not even a fan), dicey location (dirt sidewalks, poorly lit streets at the end of town)- nothing good to say about this place except that the staff is pleasant - although not that helpful.

We stayed there 2 nights and our room was very good , nicely decorated, clean , calm ! This hotel is very cute with a warm ambiance ! The best is the kitchen! We were amazed ! You have to order long time in advance but thanks chef ! Diner were awesome ! The breakfast choice and and quality was unbelievable! What a good place to stay !!!

Pros:extremely comfortable bed, updated bathrooms, bath salt, clean, thick towels, patio, refrigerator, on the hill overlooking the lake, next to supermarket, very helpful staff-english speaking, exchange small sum of dollars w no fee-good exchange rates, quiet, free parking, champaigns for breakast w no extra charge Cons: high bed and bath tub, use too much fregrance when cleaning the room

Hotel was up on hill so more quiet and a little walk to the heart of Calafate restaurants & shops. Breakfast was wonderful with lots of variety and many "sweet" choices. Sitting on veranda with a cup of tea was a nice way to start the morning. Dinner & a drink at night was delectable.

The hotel is clearly designed for cold weather. So much so that in the unseasonably warm 26 C it was very hard to get the room cool. Even leaving a window open at night couldn't achieve a more equable temperature. But no doubt this is very beneficial for more usual weather. The room we had was nicely appointed, except the bathroom, which was nothing special. Breakfast was disappointing, with too much emphasis on sweet and cakes. Very nice for afternoon tea, but not breakfast.

We loved everything about this place and think it deserves even better ratings than it has on TripAdvisor. It is not a “5 star hotel” but it is a perfect little bed and breakfast type place. It has a better view of the lake and mountains than any other hotel in town. It is up on a hill out of town but that didn’t bother us at all. It was about a 15 minute walk to town or you can use the free shuttle. But honestly you don’t need to leave the hotel much aside from going to the glacier, and the tour company will pick you up right at your door. Breakfast was delicious. The lunch box they pack for your day tours was great. And dinner was delicious! We ate in town one night and at La Cantera two nights but we wished we had eaten at La Cantera all 3 nights. The restaurant and lobby are cozy. They have good wine and the bartender makes delicious cocktails. We had massages which were really nice also. The staff is incredibly friendly and attentive. They know where you are and what you need at all times without you having to ask them. The rooms are adequate- plenty of space, comfy beds, clean. We loved the atmosphere here and definitely could have stayed longer. The only negative thing I can think of to say is I emailed the hotel a few times prior to our trip and asked a few simple questions and never got a response. Maybe I had the email wrong? But it was the one on their website.
