We really enjoyed the stay at the hotel, there was not a single thing that bothered us. It;s one of those hotels that really care about their guests and that felt very good. Rooms are big, clean, comfrotable, staff is friendly and very helpful with all requests, location is very good. I highly recommend to stay there.
We spent four nights in this pleasant place. The room was clean, huge and quiet and the breakfast excellent. The best quality of the hotel, anyway, is represented by the people who work there: kind and helpful, they try to solve your problem and give you any useful information. Good restaurant too. The structure is around 700 meters from the center, anyway. This could be an handicap if you don’t want/cannot walk.
This vintage, small hotel does a good job of trying their best to make guests feel comfortable. The rooms are well-equipped and the large king beds are really comfortable. The antiques scattered around are a nice touch. Good breakfast too.
We stayed at La Cantera for 3 nights. The room was spacious as was the bathroom and although a little dated it was spotlessly clean. The staff we extremely helpful and unlike many hotels during our trip to both Argentine and Chilean Patagonia, english was spoken very well. There was a good spread for breakfast, however we did not really feel like eating the numerous cakes and pastries early on a morning. We wish that they had been brought out again for afternoon tea when we returned from our excursions! The shuttle service (free) down to the Main Street in El Calafate was a great bonus as it was a good stroll down but a hike back up to the hotel. We ate once at the hotel which was OK, and the other evenings we ate out using the shuttle for transport. When the hotel was built it must have had a superb, uninterrupted view of the lake, however industry has found its was close by and the warehouse that is under construction is a real shame. In all, we had a good stay at this hotel and would recommend it.
A nice hotel on the edge of El Calafate with a view down to the lake and the mountains. Our room was large and comfortable - great to have a bath too! Georgina and Dario on the front desk give warm and friendly service - both were very helpful. The hotel provides a packed lunch service which we used and enjoyed. The hotel is a 10 minute walk from the town centre where there is a range of nice restaurants. There is also a large supermarket round the corner. The hotel offer a shuttle service in the evenings for those who prefer not to walk down/up the hill to town.
Nice rooms, bathroom / shower was one of the nicest we had in Argentina. Breakfast was also great! Only cons were the walls are paper thin so when your neighbors got up at 5am to leave for an excursion, well you heard everything. Also, dinner was prepared with love but the food was not as good as expected. I would recommend eating at the restaurants in the town.
When I decided to go to El Calafate (to be at Perito Moreno Glacier Park) and El Chalten (to get a glimpse of Mount Fitz Roy), I needed to book a hotel for my 3 night-accommodation. And from the day I started sending emails for my queries, I have to mention AJ, Georgina and Alejandro to commend them for providing very quick response to all my questions. They've even booked my transportation (airport pick up and drop off with cost similar to regular taxi), and excursions (to Perito Moreno Glacier Park and El Chalten) with very affordable rates - I didn't notice I was booking them through a hotel. When I arrived at the airport, the driver with my name picked me up and drove to La Cantera Hotel in less than 20 minutes. The location of La Cantera is a little uphill but I think it's great as I had the best view of Lago Argentino! The hotel is also a 3 minute-walk away from a huge supermarket where I bought the things I need for my excursion (extra drinks, food etc.). Although a bit distant from the main road where most restaurants are, La Cantera provides shuttle service for dinner time for their guests which was also offered to me, however, I chose to eat in their restaurant for dinner, and wow, I get to taste the best and most fork-tender osobuco dish that I had in a long while! I couldn't help it and requested the wait staff and receptionist Gabriela to tell the chef that his osobuco was perfecto! It was really so delicious! I thank Georgina, the other receptionist for recommending me that dish for dinner! The price was also affordable too! Even cheaper I guess from most restaurants in El Calafate. A wine glass only cost me 80+ Argentinian pesos (ARS), and the osobuco dish for less than 200 ARS. Breakfast buffet was satisfying too! Fresh drinks, coffee, tea! Eggs and some sweet pastries and cakes! Really wow! The wait staff was also friendly and can speak English well! I was provided a big room with a view of the lake and snowcapped mountains! The toilet and bath was huge too! What I love the best is their lounge or lobby, with glass panels to view Lago Argentino. Very relaxing specially sunrise and sunset! Wifi access in entire hotel was fast and free as well (included in the room package). I give my two thumbs up for Hotel La Cantera in El Calafate! They made my stay in Patagonia very warm despite the cold weather outside!
We stayed at La Cantera last November. The service was excellent. Staff members made sure we were booked on all of our tours. We had left a jacket at the airport on the plane -- and they helped us get the jacket back! Breakfast in the morning was also excellent and extensive. And you can order packed lunches for day outings. The room was comfortable and large. Sometimes it felt difficult to put on the heat. The hotel is up on a hill from the town. They can offer a car to drive you into town in the evenings. That's the only thing it's a little bit of a hike to go down for the day (coming back up to the hotel), probably a 15 minute walk. Otherwise everything was great
We chose this hotel as it was easy walking down into town, and they offered a free taxi return at night. Room was small but adequate, very warm ( we had to turn off most heating), and the breakfast was fine. Nice bed. Downside was restaurant lacked any atmosphere (we dined there after a long day hiking). Upsides were very helpful staff, good view, and 2 min walk to supermarket if you needed supplies.
Good hotel with good layout. Dinner at the restaurant was affordable and tasty! The rooms fit the style of the pictures, which I would describe as cozy and natural. Bathrooms seem recently updated with nice soaking tub. Only incident was when we came for breakfast at 9:58 and received a curt welcome from the front desk that breakfast would be closing and that we should come earlier (probably true, but we were tired and it was a buffet!).
