Boutique Hotel La Cantera

The Hotel is located on the hill above town and can be difficult to get to and to get into town (especially considering Calafate is so small). The weirdest part was the Hotel was only accepting cash so I actually had to go into town to go to the ATM to get a very small amount of money to pay for the trip to the airport in the morning, despite the fact that I had paid online. Overall, fine Hotel, decent breakfast, but no AC.

This hotel is pretty good, the staff is incredibly friendly and they're more than willing to help with all your needs. They were constantly in contact with us via email and we arranged transportation from the airport to the hotel. We arrived really early from Buenos Aires and they had our room ready right away, we got into our awesome wood-inspired room and overall had a great stay. The hotel is extremely quiet and you can rest really easily at any hour if you choose to do that. The staff also helped to coordinate our expeditions to the Perito Moreno glacier and helped with lunch bags for the day of the trip. At nights, they have a free shuttle service that will take you from the hotel to the main street of El Calafate. After you're ready dining out, call the hotel and they will pick you up. The free buffet breakfast has a lot of nice options too. All things considered this is a great place to stay with a very dedicated and friendly staff.

Had the best time at la Cantera - i wasnt expecting much from this boutique hotel but everything was perfect from the day we arrived. Unexpectedly the food was steller... there was a few long days where we decided to just dine at the hotel and to my surprise the food was incredible. will reco this place to friends and family.

We had such a wonderful time here our room was always warm and toasty with an awesome view. The Staff were so friendly and informative especially Georgina and Gabi, these two ladies helped us organize two perfect tours to the Glaciers. There was a free shuttle service in the evening, just a phone call away. The food in the restaurant was really good...a wide variety available for breakfast and the dinner menu was excellent... You have got to try the lamb empanadas were awesome... and the Shepards pie was delicious. The great hospitality continued for when we returned to our cosy room to be surprised with a chilled bottle of champagne to celebrate our engagement the day before... We are so keen to stay here again soon....

Although slightly out of town, its a very easy walk into town and the complimentary night on demand shuttle makes getting home a breeze.Staff give great advice about excursions and go out of their way to explain all options. Although simple, probably the best breakfast spread I have seen in Argentina

We stayed for 3 nights in La Cantera. It was a good place to stay in El Calafate. The rooms are comfortable and modern, despite the (quite attractive) log cabin look. There are some good views down over Lago Argentina, yet the location is still decent. It’s a 10 minute walk down to the main street (around which everything in El Calafate is based). Nearly double that to come back up, but in the evening you can just ask restaurants or bars to call the hotel and they’ll send someone to pick you up. This seemed to work well. The breakfast was ok; better than average for Argentina for sure. The WiFi was not great, but it did just about work. Service was generally good, although they did seem to have some weird inconsistencies with whether they were going to charge for a cup of tea (which they really shouldn’t given there are not facilities to make one in the room). In an expensive town we felt like La Cantera was very good value for the price we paid and would choose it again if returning.

This hotel is just up the hill about 400 yards from the Main Street. The room was large and very clean. Breakfast was included and more than adequate with the staff constantly monitoring and bringing out different options and adding to your choices. The free shuttle service to and from town is perfect and very much appreciated. The staff were very helpful.

I'm not sure that I agree that this is a boutique hotel but it was perfectly pleasant enough for a 3-night stay. It is in a great location, just one block from El Calafate's main street, close enough to easily explore the town's shops and restaurants. Reception staff were pleasant and helpful. Just two little gripes. The hotel is a spa but this is only open from 6 - 10pm and you need to book a half-hour slot in reception. I guess on a positive note, you have the place to yourself! I also need to add that this is not a quiet hotel; think conversations and tvs through paper-thin walls and doors slamming to the accompaniment of toilets being flushed and showers in flow. Not good.

El Calafate is a quaint mountain town with lots of food and shopping options. If you don’t mind touristy, I highly recommend staying in town at least a night or two to enjoy the great food. La Cantera is conveniently located up a hill 4 blocks off the main street. The rooms are clean and well sized and service is excellent. The hotel offers a free shuttle service to and from town which was VERY convenient and MUCH appreciated because our legs were tired after trekking Torres Del Paine and El Chaltén. The breakfast buffet was included in our rate and was delicious, especially all the desserts! The gentleman working the bar was super friendly and even though he spoke English, he was so kind and patient to help me practice my Spanish which is terrible. For the price and level of service, I highly recommend La Cantera. You won’t regret it!

Although I hesitate to call La Cantera a boutique hotel, it was a perfectly pleasant hotel for our family of four, especially for the price. The rooms were large and clean with lovely views of the lake. It is not downtown, but there is a shuttle, which you may use. We had our own car, so we never utilized the service. The breakfast is filled with pastries and breads.
