We stayed 3 nights and enjoyed the spacious themed room. It was in an excellent location for exploring. A fun trendy bar with good choice of food and drinks plus friendly staff made it a good choice, and we would have no hesitation in staying there again.
Stayed in this hotel a few years ago and found the room (on the reception level) very noisy. This time I was given a room on the top floor which was reasonably spacious with a good bathroom. No corridor noise unlike the last time. No view from the room, and one wall was part glass blocks without a curtain, so bright from 5am, but otherwise was fine. The layout of the hotel is unusual - reception on the first floor upstairs from the bar/restaurant and a few rooms on each floor. Lifts small and rather slow. The bar and restaurant were good - good atmosphere in the bar in the evening and friendly staff, and a good breakfast. Overall a good experience - I'd stay here again if back in Edinburgh
Recently stayed at the Angels Share in Edinburgh for 3 nights Monday - Thursday. The hotel is in a great location situated just off Princes St. I'd arranged parking at a different location through Just Park, but I believe that you can get a 25% discount at a nearby NCP car park, as like a lot of city center hotels there is no parking at the hotel itself. We stayed in the Ewan Mcgregor room which was ideal for us, it was large with a seperate seating area and a well appointed bathroom. The tea/coffee tray was replaced daily, which was great because my girlfriend certainly loves her hot drinks. All the staff we met at the hotel were very friendly, but special mention must go to the two lady's that worked on reception who answered any queries that we had with a smile. We ate dinner in the restaurant on one night and really enjoyed our meal. We both went for a burger, meat for me, veggie for my girlfriend and both found them to be very tasty with good sized portions. We also split a cheesecake which was also very tasty. The only fly in the ointment was that to access the hotel you currently have to walk through the bar, drawing strange looks from the bar clientele. Not great when you have a number of bags/cases. This will however only be a short term measure, as the hotel is being renovated and we were told is should be finished by the end of this week. One other thing to bear in mind is that the reception is on the first floor, however there is a lift as well as a staircase. If I'm back in Edinburgh I would definitely stay here again, and choose another deluxe room. The extra outlay is worth it for the added space.
Beautiful boutique hotel just a stone's throw from the castle and in easy walking distance of everything. Friendly welcoming staff, great atmosphere in the bar and you really must eat in the restaurant, the food is great. Can't recommend this place highly enough.
The location in fabulous. Short walk across to the trendy restraurants and bars along Rose Street and across the park to the Royal Mile and Castle. There are tons of places to grab a bite nearby and the hotel is even relatively convenient to the train station (if you're younger without a lot of baggage could easily walk from Waverly Station). However, the rooms are very small, if you are in a room facing the street it's loud, and it is a pretty complicated system to actually find one's room (up a lift, small flight of stairs, around the hall way and if you're lucky, you located your room). Breakfast is typically not included and is so-so, though they do have real, strong, brewed coffee, which is a plus for American and other coffee loving patrons.
Couldn't fault this hotel, I read some reviews before we went that complained about the noise and heat in the room but our room (205 Amy Mcdonald) was spot on. The shower was the most powerful shower I have ever had! Some people complained about having to go through the bar to get to reception...its really no big deal! Hotel is ideally located for Murrayfield Stadium it's only a 25 min walk. The area around the hotel is lovely too with plenty of bars and restaurants. Would stay here again.
Stayed here for a short break in Edinburgh. Parked nearby (NCP) and short walk to the hotel. A little confusing to find the correct entrance for the hotel - restaurant and bar on ground floor. Anyway, soon found it - reception on first floor. Rooms as 'themed' to different pop, film and tv stars (we were in 'Emilie Sande'!). Very good, clean and on a 'boutique hotel' theme. Lively bar down stairs - ideal for a drink before heading out. Didn't use restaurant so can't comment - although it looked well used and food appeared to be of a good standard.
Sadly for me I wouldn't return to the Angel's Share solely due to the noise levels. We stayed two nights and were kept awake from music in the bar downstairs one evening and a complete racket outside our room both nights which then started up again at 5am (not the hotel's fault obviously!). Given my husband was here to run the marathon, lack of sleep wasn't great. We weren't able to shut the window as the hotel was like a sauna and the small fan in the room wouldn't have helped. I just thank god I carry ear plugs with me... Another niggle was our shower, which trickled like a rubbish tap, meaning it took ages to actually get wet. Always disappointing. Despite this the room was really lovely and extremely comfortable, one of the best beds and pillows I've slept on in ages! The staff are also really warm and friendly. A shame really as the hotel could be excellent.
My partner booked us into this Boutique style hotel at the end of Princes Street in Edinburgh. Maybe not everyone's cup of tea, as in each room is themed around a famous Scottish person.... Our room was the Rod Stewart room... Very pleasant, clean, very comfortable large bed and lovely bathroom. Nothing was too much trouble for the caring Duty Manageress and the young Duty Manager, named Scott. He gave us great tips on places to visit, Restaurants to eat at and historical places to visit. The hotel has a Restaurant and a very nice bar, where on a Saturday night, there is live music and it stays open a bit later. We had a lovely 4 day stay and thoroughly enjoyed the place. For a special occasion, it is well worth paying a little more for a bit of comfort.
I am just now leaving Scotland and through Expedia, I found this particular hotel. It is definitely quirky. Upon arrival, you will not enter a lobby but the restaurant. I arrived hours before check in and asked if it was ok to store my luggage not a problem at all. I then proceeded to order breakfast which during that time, the very kind waitress asked upstairs if I could check in early, they were full the night before so no rooms were available, just her doing that without my asking went a long way with me. The rooms are small but who goes to stay in rooms. The rooms are also named after iconic Scottish entertainers. I would like to thank both Sarah and Molly in reception, any assistance I needed they were on hand. Shout out to Coleman, the bartender who taught me about whiskey. Food is also very good and the hotel is centrally located. Cheers! I would definitely return and lately I have been traveling in several countries with well known chain hotels. This one was a nice change of pace.
