We've stopped here on our way to the OBX almost every September since its opening. I've written some glowing reviews about this place and have always been pretty happy here. This time, not so much. Check-in, having a reservation, was relatively normal altho not the most professional I've ever experienced. When i wanted to verify that the room had a fridge and microwave as described on the website, I was told they were "probably" there. When I pursued that "probably" it was explained that rooms were in the process of being renovated, so some appliances had been moved, but if they were lacking some would be brought. OK....they were in the room. I'd say that our room, #128, was one still awaiting renovation since everything was clearly "tired". The king bed had two dents down each side, the frame of the mirror in the bathroom had a layer of coated on dust, the rug appeared less than pristine...but there were more recent failures to prepare the room properly for guests. There was what looked like fresh red sauce (pizza?) on the rug by the desk, the bed skirt was put on haphazardly, there was a layer of dust everywhere, and the tissue box in the bathroom was empty. I brought the empty box to the desk and asked for a replacement. The two women went hunting, came back empty handed, and told me there was none to be had. Nowhere. They were not permitted in the Housekeeping supply room. When I suggested that a box could be gotten from a room that would not be occupied that night I was told they were not allowed to access rooms. Breakfast was more of the same. Whoever set it up has put too much in too small a space. The way the coffee pots are stacked it's almost impossible to get coffee from the top row. The directions for the pancake maker which are on top of the machine were hidden by trays of jam. The four slice toaster was 50% non-functional, so people were lined up to use the 2 slots which were semi-functional. The small rear parking lot looks semi-derelict with a tool shed which is beginning to deteriorate badly, two charcoal grills and two picnic tables, and lots of weeds around the curbs. A rusty faucet on the back of the building has a permanent leak, wasting a whole lot of water. It appears the owners/managers are "skimping pennies" by not keeping up with the "small stuff" and slipping down to a third rate property. I don't know why I should expect it to be better next year; it may be time to try the Hampton Inn across the road.
Stayed for one night on the way to our final destination. The front desk staffer was friendly and was very apologetic when there was a problem with our first room. The toilet would not flush and the maintenance man had left at 3pm (this was about 7pm). There were no comparable rooms available so it was kind of a bummer to go from king bed with fridge and microwave to queen bed with no fridge or microwave. The room was clean, the breakfast was fresh and well stocked. And the hotel is just about a two minute ride from a fantastic Mexican restaurant! I'd stay there again and recommend it as well.
This was our second stay at the Holiday Inn Exmore. The location makes a good stopping point for our annual trek to the Outer Banks from the New York Metro area. There is not a lot to write home about with this hotel. The rooms are very average, the beds are okay, the upkeep is soso, and the staff is cordial, but not overly friendly. The pool area was nice and we did take advantage of it. The free breakfast was below average. On our recent stay in mid-August, the hotel was book solid and appear to be reserved by many "Northerners" like us making there way to OBX. Will I come again next year? Maybe. I think I might look for alternatives if I can get a similar room at a reasonabale price. The choices are few in the area however, so there is a good chance we'll be back.
Outstanding place to stay while traveling employees cannot do enough to make our stay comfortable great breakfast room property clean and inviting will definitely be our 1/2 way stop to New Jersey recommend Exmore diner
Booked the hotel and stayed there for Memorial Day weekend 2017. I expected a bit more than I saw. The carpets in the hallways were just disgusting. I never knew that the Holiday Inn would even present it's hotel in that kind of shape. When I think of the Holiday Inn I think of a beautiful place to rest my head but no, I didn't even wanna take off my shoes. They are no match for the Marriott Hotel, hands down. I would give them 2 out of 5 stars but no more. The complimentary breakfast was what we expected, a bunch of processed foods and no we did not eat it. We did drink the juice though.
It was an ok hotel for a one night stop. My one big complaint was the dirty filthy carpets in the hallways. All it takes is a carpet cleaner and a little bit of effort to keep them clean. Breakfast was very good.
We have been traveling across the country using Holiday Inn Express as our hotel of choice. This is our first bad experience. The bathroom had a half used bar of soap on the floor. There was severe water damage to the ceiling and walls around the shower. Oh…. And the toilet did not flush! The front desk was accommodating and did switch us to another room. Thank you for that! However, the hotel in general is not up to HIE standards. The carpet in the hallways are heavily stained and worn. We would NOT stay at this facility again.
I must say, I believe the positive reviews were made by employees. Pulled into parking lot and immediately saw trash overflowing onto the ground behind a pillar directly beside the entrance doors. Not a good first impression. Arrived after check-in time and still had to wait for room since it wasn't ready. On way to room, noticed very dirty floors, walls, and pretty much everything. Needless to say, room wasn't much better. Smelled like mildew and looked dirty. I am sure the smell had lots to do with the fact that the bathroom had no ventilation whatsoever. It did contain a very dirty vent on the ceiling but it didn't work. Shower was dirty, tub sounded like it was unstable and could fall through the floor at any moment, and the nasty drainage plug was sitting on the side of the tub. Beds were hard, but pillows were great. Breakfast...good thing it is free.... My husband and I were reserved for two nights, but checked out immediately the next morning and drove almost an hour (Hampton across the road was sold out) for a beautiful stay at the Fairfield Inn & Suites in Chincoteague. Definitely worth the drive! I depend on honest reviews when I stay at hotels, and I must say that this Holiday Inn was extremely disappointing and a waste of money. My honest advice, go somewhere else.
The room was clean and large enough, plenty of outlets, good WiFi. All rooms have a microwave and coffee pot. You have to request a minifridge, which we did and got, thanks to Roshanda and Ruthie. Roshanda checked us in and changed us to a 1st floor room which we appreciated (We did request it when we booked, but we did not book directly). We would stop here again.
We stayed at this hotel enroute. Unless working in area couldn't see why you would stay here. As such was expecting a high level of service. How disappointed. At check in asked about the couple of bottles for ihg members we had received at previous night's hie hotel. We were told we could have them (costing 20 cents) if we forfeited our reward points for stay. Lol. Bathroom was desperate. No sink plug. Poor shower. No spare toilet paper. Room just OK. Breakfast was OK but this is their problem. Staff and mgt too chatty. Breakfast items not replenished. Sat in the dining area the dust on the furniture in the public areas staggering. Landing carpet very dirty. Not fully their fault but next door there was a dog that constantly barked. Fair to say when their bill was posted at 4am the dog enjoyed a great bark
