Nothing fancy, the facilities are little bit outdated but clean rooms and bathroom. Friendly staff, no unnecessary services/facilities, simply clean bed, bathroom, room, normal breakfast, simple bar. The only inconvenient thing is that the parking facilities are a little remote located in an pin code access controlled (bar) but other than that unsupervised open yard, but the fee at only 9 euro per day is accordingly.
I have stayed here a few times over the years. The experience is okay, and there is lots of choice in the windowless breakfast room, but you get the impression that nobody really loves the place. I like windows that can be fully opened, which are in short supply here. Watch out for the smart, but slippery (when wet) bathroom floors. On my last visit I was bitten in more than one place by mosquitoes in my room. The hotel is on tram routes 2 and 4 but halfway between two stops. If you are coming from Sint Peeters station it is easier to walk.
This hotel is more than adequate for a short stay in Gent, Belgium. The room is spacious though a little bit outdated. WiFi work and breakfast is not included. There a great bakery nearby with great option. Front desk service was excellent with an internationalist to assist you in four languages, including Portuguese. One of our friends asked for toothpaste and toothbrush offered in their service, but they had ran out. Well, better not offer!
We booked this hotel a bit last minute, and I have to admit, I was a bit worried that I would be very dissapointed after reading reviews on tripadvisor and booking.com. I do not really understand the negative reviews. The price of the hotel is very competitive, we got a very large room, with a clean and decent bathroom, toiletries, a complementary bottle of water, a very large comfortable double bed. We slept quietly and soundly, no complaints there. The check-in and check-out went smoothly. I cannot review the breakfast because we did not take the breakfast. I agree the rooms doors look a bit strange and resemble a freezer door, but who cares about that? If you arrive by train the hotel is just a five minute walk away. From the hotel you can take a tram to the centre.
Booked via booking.com and having stayed at NH hotels before, we were expecting a slightly fresher decor and furnishings than there is. Our first room was tiny with mould on the bathroom ceiling but a quick trip to reception saw us moved to a better cleaner room,although the bathroom was old and tired it was serviceable and clean. Beds were really uncomfortable unfortunately but there is a kettle and fridge in each room with tea bags and coffee. However, there is no milk!!!! Breakfast was a poor show from what we are used to from previous NH stays, poor choice of hot food, limited pastries and old, stained chairs which have seen better days. Also the hotel does not serve an evening menu so if you don't fancy a trip back into ghent in the evening, you'll need to walk down to the station or next door is a nice little Italian/pizza restaurant. All in all, for us this hotel was not up to the usual standard we are used to from this group and,although staff were thorough and the room was clean, the hotel overall is tired and could do with a good spring clean.
This hotel is clean welcoming quiet all day and just the ticket for connecting to the airport. The staff werer really helpful to me for printing boarding pass and other arrangements. However 20 Euro for Breakfast is a bit steep. Maybe bring your own or walk to the shops.
I have seen other reviews saying this was a dark old place reminding them of the 50s... I found it very comfortable and seemed quite modern though I could tell the bathroom was "tired" and in need of refurbishment. Breakfast was lovely having a good selection. It was close to St Pieters station which was convenient for me and the next day I was fine with the 20mins walk to the city centre. Reception staff were very friendly and helpful.
We were booked into this hotel by a client and were really disappointed. The hotel is a good 20 years beyond a refurbishment. It might be good as a film set for a 1950s movie, but as a place to stay it is dark, dirty and not very comfortable. I'd give it a miss if you Can!
We stayed here for a 2 night stay early September mid-week. Service was brilliant, very friendly and informative. The doors to the bedrooms looked like freezer doors. It was very odd. The rooms were clean and the beds were very comfortable. It was good value for money but in terms of location it was a 20 minute walk to the centre. Not bad if you like walks like is but can be a bit of a clart on when you want to get back to the room to change for night time. We ended up going out and staying out all day. There's no real dress code in gent so that was cool. There was hotel parking at a cost of 9 euros a day, there is no free parking anywhere in gent apparently and parking on the street you have to renew every 4 hours. Hotel parking appears to be the best option. Rooms include baths, shower, safe. If we were to return we would more than likely stay somewhere a little closer to the centre as said earlier however this hotel was clean, good service and value for money if you don't mind being slightly out.
I used to like the NH chain of hotels. But this one in Ghent did it for me. No more. I stayed three nights. It started out badly. There is an elevator in the hotel, but rooms ending 5, 6, and 7 have 6-7 extra steps to and from the room. My first room was 305, with steps. I went back to the desk to change rooms. Without thinking about it, he gave me 206—also with steps. The third time was the charm, and I had room 109. The room was a nice size, and so was the bathroom. But the bathroom had the huge, deep bathtub common in Europe. I call it a suicide tub—you take your life in your hands climbing in and out, especially since there are no handles to grab. The shower head was at one end of the tub that had a wall on both sides. With the shower curtain closed, it was quite dark. After slipping a bit in the tub while taking a shower, when I went downstairs I asked for a rubber mat for the tub. The ineffective desk clerk (same one who checked me into three different rooms) told me they did not have any. He said he had that comment about a year ago. Obviously, either he never reported it, and nothing was done, or he did not report it, and nothing has been done. Returning to the hotel in the afternoon, I asked a different desk clerk about a rubber mat for the tub. He said he would check. Two hours later, I still had not heard from anyone. Will it take someone breaking a leg, or worse, and a law suit, for the management to spend a few euros on non-slip mats for the bathtubs? The lights in the room were not great, and the reading lamp by the bed had the dimmest bulb I have ever seen. The air conditioning worked well. There is still a pending charge from the hotel for almost $200, dated July 29. Today is August 10. It just defies logic! I will not be staying at any NH hotel ever again.
