Hotel de Flandre4.0 out of 5.0

Located nearby the center which is good. Hotel would need some renovation and better maintenance. My room has been in the back with a small yard in the center - surrounded by many rooms on 2 levels. Not that quiet as other guests do have conversations in the yard and the windows and walls are quite thin... Breakfast is default for a 4* and without complaints. Service (Reception) was good and quick (check-in, Check-out with special requests for my bill, order a taxi - all great), they might try to compensate. So in essence: for a 2 day business this is working, but not a memorable experience.
Well located near the centre, really convenienet. Reception s doing properly his job and is really friendly. I had room 115 which was on the back of the hotel, stat to be old and need refrechment or new paint. Room was clean and a little bit noisy as you well listen to the people waloking ont the other floor. Breakfest is perfect with a lot fo choice including eggs and bacon and a lort of different cakes including macarons
The hotel has 2 buildings which makes a little bit strange. The second building was in a dark corner. The staff was not helpful. Such strict rules of late check-in. I would not choose it again, though the location is great
No Wifi, airco and elevator working during 3 day stay. Alarm set off multiple times during the night, Poor food quality. Limited cleanliness of rooms. Mattrass too soft . Thin towels. Personnel not particularly friendly.
We stayed here for one night on our way to Germany. The hotel is in an ideal location - just minutes away from the beautiful town centre. There is no on-site car parking, the nearest multi-storey is a few minutes walk and you should include overnight parking in your budget (about €25). The room we were given was fairly small, but extremely comfortable. Not all the plug points worked - so we had to use the one for the kettle to charge our phones. We did not have breakfast in the hotel, but there are cafés just a short walk away. This is a great budget hotel. We would definitely stay here again.
We stayed one night (thankfully only 1 night) at this property and were given a room in their other building 100 meters away. This other building is completely renovated empty shell, which was probably a some sort of old warehouse before or something like that. The room is ok with cold slippery flooring, painted I guess. Also if you fancy a modern take on the rooms layout where a toilet and a bathroom are only behind half-height partition wall - ie there is no door to the toilet and there is no walls - so you can hear everything as if someone is siting on the loo just next to you.... But the main reason I started this review is that the room was extremely cold! I attempted to switch on the heating - it did not work. I tried to call - phone does not work. I went to the reception - walked down the road. I was informed that heating is switched on only in October and at that moment nothing can be done. I asked mobile heater as we have a 3 months old baby with us - they said no, they have not got any. I asked if we can leave without payment - girl at the reception refused and said that I have to pay and then write to the manager and see if she has a mercy to give me a discount. Unbelievable... It was a cold day, the temperature outside was about +14, the more or less the same temperature was inside the room, as the window was open and the entrance door is juts one thin plastic sheet ... We had to stay in bad dressed, and we went to local H&M to but additional warm stuff for our baby. Nice ! I just hope that other people read this and plan their stay accordingly. At EUR 170 a night without breakfast - this hotel is not cheap at all... Do NOT stay at this hotel unless you used to such cold conditions!
Avoid Garden room 1 unless you are a smoker and able to see in the dark!! I'd booked this trip to Ghent as part of my husband's 'special' birthday treat and I chose a 3 night stay in a deluxe room. I chose this hotel because of it's situation and the photos online of it's rooms. We questioned if our room was actually one of the deluxe one's we'd asked for and the receptionist confirmed it was. Ours looked nothing like any I'd looked at when doing my research. Pros - Great situation close to the canals, castle, restaurants, churches etc. Breakfast very good Room size good Cons - Where to start! We were given Room 1 in a pleasant courtyard just off reception - there was a small wooden table and chairs under our window plus a larger table and chairs in the centre of the courtyard. First impressions good. How wrong could we be!! The tables were in constant use by heavy smokers, day and night Our room was really dark, very poor lighting. Not too clean - marked furniture and unswept wooden floor. The safe was difficult to use as it was in the wardrobe and hard to see the numbering. Had to keep curtains closed or be seen by the smokers. Air conditioning wasn't very good and no other ventilation as windows wouldn't open (although other rooms in the courtyard were able to open there's). Housekeeping was abysmal. First day, after returning from a day out I realised our bed hadn't been touched (I leave hotel rooms quite tidy so housekeeping staff must have turned a blind eye to the bed). Second morning, I folded back the duvet to emphasise the bed needed making up - got back to the room around 6ish and, although the towels had been replaced, the bed hadn't been touched at all! Reported this to reception and asked if it was necessary for guests to make their own beds .. the receptionist looked at me as if I was stupid. When I told her this was the second day it had happened she apologised profusely and said she'd report it to housekeeping. Why this hotel claims to be 4 star I do not know. At a push I'd give it 3 stars but only because of it's position and the breakfast. I wish I had asked to see one of their standard rooms if Room 1 is supposed to be deluxe. The tea/coffee pods and the bathroom toiletries were not replenished during our three nights at the hotel. We loved Ghent and will return but not to this hotel. Very, very disappointed. We filled in their questionnaire but I also intend writing to the manager. I cannot believe he knows what's going on with the service his staff are offering guests.
A great, friendly hotel with lovely interior architecture and very nice rooms. The breakfast is a must for those wishing to have a full stomach before their adventures! We enjoyed a very comfortable room with good facilities. Would highly recommend.
We visited this hotel with friends in May lovely clean hotel in a cracking location just 5 mins from town centre. Lovely clean modern room on the ground floor court yard. Ghent is one of the most lovely places we have ever been would certainly recommend Would definitely visit Ghent again and would probably go to the same hotel!
An old Motel rated (and priced) as a Four star Hotel in the centre of Ghent. My room was very old (see the picture) dirty (see the picture of the pillow with a spot of blood). Even the entrance of the room was Motel style, from outside (see the picture). Everything for the modest amount of €100 for night. I am sure tha they have better (and more expensive) rooms, but a four star hotel should have a minimum standard. Unpresentable and shameful.
