We stayed at the hotel during the "Gentse Feesten" and liked it very much. Not only was the room perfectly clean, it had also a very nice style and the view from the window (Ghent RIVER hotel) was top! The hotal is located close to the "Vrijdagmarkt", a nice place with restaurants. All other important places to visit in Ghent are at walking distance. Breakfast was on the third floor, with a nice view, but pity that you cannot enjoy that view when you are eating (sitting down). Nice buffet, but maybe a little too expensive (not included in room price). At the time we were checking out, it seemed like the whole hotel was checking out. It might be a good option to provide some extra reception personnel then. There was literally a row of 20 people, which makes the check-out a long activity.
Each time we visit Ghent we stay in the Ghent River Hotel. We love the way the old utility building has been transformed into a modern hotel. The location in the old town is perfect for visiting the highlights of the old city and the countless restaurants around. We enjoy the delightful breakfast on the top floor of the hotel with stunning views of the river and the town. A lovely place to stay in at a very reasonable price.
A nice hotel in a small street around the corner of the Vrijdagmarkt and on the bank of the Leie. Small but comfortable room. Nice breakfast room on the third floor with terrace and view. As a train traveller: almost 3 KM from the station, but good tram connection. In the center all is in walking distance.
The room was very large, quiet at night, and had great amenities which included the typical tea/coffee, toiletries (including conditioner!), and a fully stocked minibar fridge with extra room that was great for storing the delicious Belgian beers purchased in Ghent. It also has a great free breakfast buffet that offers the typical meats & cheeses, yogurts, fruit, delicious bread, as well as eggs, bacon, sausages, etc. The location is fantastic for exploring the gorgeous city of Ghent - just off the market square and basically a 10 minute walk or less from the major tourist attractions. A fantastic place to stay!
Nice hotel at walking distance of nice pubs, restaurants, the historic center, .... Nice staff, great rooms, ... 24/24 hour staffed reception No parking space in the hotel, public parking available at walking distance.
Very convenient to the city center of Gent. Quiet street and very helpful, friendly staff. We were especially appreciative of the help of staff member, Mehmet who went above and beyond with exceptional service! All staff spoke English which made it easier for us to communicate. We stayed in the original portion of the hotel and loved the historic aesthetics.
What really speaks for this hotel is the location. Perfectly located by the river and very central. Friendly and welcoming staff. My room was big, but the interior quite dated. The beds could have been more comfortable. But all in all a good and clean room.
Excellent location, just 5 min walk from the old centre with loads of restaurants etc. The hotel has a convenient bar and pleasant courtyard for a beer and smoke, and our double room was a good size with most of the facilities that one would expect for the price. Cost of parking - cheapest we found was 16 Euros per 24 h near the railway station, about 15 min walk away. No complimentary bottled water in the room, and a very expensive breakfast (20 Euros per person) when all we wanted was juice, coffee and a couple of rolls/croissants.
Stayed at this hotel several times while working in Ghent. Location is one of it's highlights, it is central and within walking distance to most sites. Staff was correct and always helped with the requests I sent through my reservations (to have a bath instead of shower, or canal view) they always pleased me. Even last night I was upgraded to a Junior suite which had this castle feeling. I thought this to be very cool. Many of the rooms had this feature. I found, however, the rooms to be a bit cold during the months I stayed (March-April) as the A/C turns off while you're out of the room as the housekeepers turn it off every single day with no exception. Breakfast wasn't the biggest point for me (however some of my work mates did like it, so there are different opinions here). I found it expensive. There was a big selection for breakfast but for me lacked a little bit on the quality side (not great coffee, not great selection of fruits, juice or pastries) but I still could manage, so it wasn't too bad. Overall was good and had a good experience.
Having just finished part one of our honeymoon, my wife and I wanted to stay in the centre of Ghent and found this wonderful hotel and it was just superb. Admittedly they did upgrade us because of the Honeymoon, but nevertheless the facilities were just so good. Having found and booked through Trip Advisor we got an excellent deal and were just delighted with everything. the Bedroom was beautiful, the river views just stunning, everything worked (including the A/C), the staff were very helpful and polite. In fact I would find it hard to come up with anything about the Ghent River Hotel that I wasn't pleased with - the attention to detail was superb - well done! I would recommend this hotel to anybody, it is a 2 minute walk from the Vrijdagmarkt, 5 mins from the Patershoi and 7 minutes from our favourite restaurant in Belgium - Valentijn's. This was the best end to our honeymoon that we could have wished for and it delivered.
