Our only complaint, and it's a small one, is the room size. Everything else, particularly the service, was fantastic. Great town with many restaurant and shopping choices. Hotel is a grand, old Western downtown hotel that is well preserved

a disappointment…

Hotel located in historic downtown Durango with friendly and informative front desk staff in Caleb and Chandler. Rooms are small and only queen beds. But the continental breakfast was not even what you might get at a 3 star. We were there 5 days and the offering never changed: dry, flavorless overcooked powdered eggs and sausage, white and brown sliced bread, no english muffins or bagels and the danish looked like they came straight from Walmart. Only saving grace was the fresh fruit…not in line with this historic hotel. The early morning coffee in the hallway was a plus. There are other choices in the downtown area to consider.

Lovely spot to stay

We really enjoyed staying at the hotel. It was super convenient for the train. Parking was easy. We wanted a larger room, so we were in the hotel across the parking lot. It wasn't really very inconvenient, but no lift, so you need to be able to do stairs with luggage (or use a porter).Linens were nice and sufficient. Bed was very comfortable. The breakfast was fairly basic, but sufficient. I would stay there again for ambience and convenience!

Perfect anniversary getaway!

The rooms are beautifully appointed to fit the time period. The king sized bed was very comfortable - we slept great. We had the continental breakfast twice, and enjoyed it both times. There are several dining options within walking distance for all budgets. We will definitely stay again!

The General Palmer Hotel provides an American Victorian era experience but with freshness and an updated feel. The staff are super helpful, the bedroom very comfortable and homey, and the surrounding area filled with restaurants, music, and delightful things to do in a gorgeous setting. I definitely will return!!
