Comfy rooms, beach right in front of the hotel and a public saltwater pool next door. I arrived sick but the receptionist was helpful and understanding so I could still enjoy my stay at this wonderful location.
This is really a very good hotel. Ideally located, a few steps from the rolling seas, easy parking, reliable Wifi, good kitchen, clean and well equipped, great support from reception, excellent housekeeping. Highly recommended.
the location is away from the city centre but right on the surf beach with the sound of the surf to lull you to sleep we had a great nights rest, very comfy bed great view to the beach, easy underground parking, would suggest a ocean view room to take advantage of the location, the only downsize was a pair of dirty socks left on one of the dining chairs obviously missed by the cleaners,so went in the bin
Stayed here again for the weekend with my student daughter - we've been several times now. About 10' drive from the city on the spectacular coast. Upmarket accomm, lovely little village to wander, would always recommend staying here if you have a car. But this time it was the service that deserves a special mention. The cheery check in was great; our lovely seafront room developed an intermittent power problem after a day. The only other available room with twin beds didn't have a view of the sea so we said we'd manage, given we were going out etc - and the view is too good to pass up. Staff were so concerned about our being put out that, unbidden, we were given a fabulous 2 bedroom suite. They didn't have to, and we were utterly delighted with the care and attention. Thank you.
Second time we have stayed here. Great location only 5 minutes drive to the city centre of Dunedin. Beautiful rooms and amazing view of the ocean to watch the surfers. Walking distance to great pubs, restaurants and cafes. The staff are so obliging and are always a pleasure to deal with. Highly recommend this hotel.
The friendly and welcoming staff at this well-located hotel make all the difference. Knowing that I was on a late flight in, I rang ahead to ask if I could order a light dinner from their menu to be set aside until I arrived in case the kitchen was closed when I got there. They were happy to oblige, which was just as well because all the other eateries nearby were closed too. The hotel itself is all you might expect: clean, attractive, comfortable, well-appointed rooms, including a welcome bath tub (short but nice and deep) across the road from the beach (which was wonderfully stormy when I was there. But it was the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff - especially those on reception - that was most memorable. It made a business trip enjoyable.
The hotel is small, the room was clean and roomy, had everything you need. The location is great right across from the beach. Several good restaurants in walking distance and the hotel restaurant was actually excellent. Beds were comfortable and we had a partial beach view with balcony, prices were reasonable. would stay again.
We recently had 2 days to spend in Dunedin and so decided to go to the seaside! We drove to St Claire and saw the Hotel St Claire just waiting for us! The very friendly receptionist showed us a number of rooms and we chose a room with small balcony, overlooking the pools, the hill with all the houses and the amazing seafront. The room itself I think would be described as luxurious, totally what we wanted for our last 2 days on holiday. Views were amazing, even the black weather coming in! Torrential rain! Lovely restaurants just a few minutes walk away. Should we go to Dunedin again we will always stay here. Loved it.
We had a partial sea view room which was modern, fresh and very spacious for 2x people. With seprate lounge and kitcken. Queen bed was very comfortable with lovely soft sheets. There were plenty of pillows unfortunately there weren't many options of thickness for thouse who dont like a high pillow. Staff were very friendly, pleasant and accondating. Close to good restaurants and beach. Definitely Value for money.
Hotel St Clair is a favourite of ours - we have been there four times in recent years. The views of St Clair and St Kilda beaches, and the surfers, the sunrises out of the sea, are spectacular. The rooms and room decor are beautiful and contemporary. The hotel is under new management and was perhaps still finding its feet, especially in the restaurant, the decor of which had sadly been changed for the worse. The service and food quality were also not as good as on former visits. I hope the new owners refrain from changing the tasteful, neutral toned contemporary decor of the rooms and apartments. We have twice in the past two years had the hotel arrange a party for us to host our Dunedin friends, which has been a fantastic success on both occasions, with drinks and delicious canapes provided by the hotel, with serving staff on hand. A wonderful place to stay in a beautiful location!
