The Victoria Hotel Dunedin

We arrived at the Victoria Hotel to find we had been upgraded to a Superior room in the new building for free which was a fantastic start to our stay in Dunedin. The room was luxuriously big with a gorgeous clean bathroom, and the staff at reception were very friendly. Parking was $10 a night on premises which was fair considering the close proximity to the town centre, which was a short walk from the hotel. We didn't eat in the hotel restaurant as there were too many choices in the city, however the pricing seemed reasonable. Definitely enjoyed our two-night stay in the Victoria Hotel.

Upon entering the room there was a distinct smell coming from the bathroom (urine smell). Rang reception said they couldn't do anything until housekeeping came back the next day. However they sent somebody up who sprayed a section and then wiped it with a rag. I think a mop and bucket of disinfectant/hot water would've been a safer bet. Beds soft, nice fluffy pillows. Nobody to take our bags up but that's OK we took it up ourselves using the luggage trolley. Modern room with kettle. Huge negative was how they only filled up the tea and coffee with three of everything!!! Three sachets of different teas, and coffees. When we asked for more the receptionist gave us two more haha. Parking was free as we booked through their website. There is a modern side and an older side...we were on modern side facing some buildings and the carpark. Don't think we will stay back here again.

Room was very good. Attitude of the front desk manager was not acceptable. Our rooms were booked by our tour company Relaxing Journey. During breakfast we were informed that only one person's breakfast is included. I showed my itinerary where it was mentioned that breakfast is included, still they dishonored and will likely we have to for it. Any way breakfast was horrible it is not up to the standard for 4 star hotel.

This is a good hotel nice rooms clean and comfortable there is a nice restaurant do dinner till about 21.00 and the breakfast is good , there is a bar which is near the reception. It's in a good position quite central

Booked direct with Hotel's own website (which also provides a free carpark), and booked a Deluxe Room, upgraded and very very appreciative of the fine lodgings. Hotel is Central in the heart of the CBD, and service of staff at Check in & Check Out were top notch. Good beds, good pressure shower and rooms clean and modern.

Our stay was over the New Year celebration and the hotel did not disappoint. We were upgraded on arrival into the new building which was clean and well appointed. The staff were particularly helpful and happy to help with any ideas on where and what to do in the area. The bed was particularly comfortable and the room was quiet and provided with a balcony. A fridge, safe, iron and ironing board, microwave were all available in the room. Overall a very pleasant stay!

This hotel is right in the centre of Dunedin city. An easy walk to the railway station and many other places of interest. Cadbury world is just across the street if you are a lover of chocolate (although I believe this is closing down in 2018). There is a guest laundry on site which is great if you have been travelling for a while. The staff were all very friendly and helpful and the rooms clean and tidy. We had a two bedroom apartment as were were a family of 5 it was a bit squashed but not nearly as much as many other hotels.

Stayed here for 3 nights in December 2017 in the older building. Overall a pretty good hotel - great location, clean and functional unit. There are 2 reasons why it gets a 3 star rating. 1) The rooms were really stuffy/hot and there was no air con/fans. Even with the balcony door open the entire night it was still really hot (and the seagulls are REALLY loud very early in the mornings). 2) It smelled of stale smoke despite being in a non-smoking unit. Also there seems to be a lot of Contiki tours here (will leave that up to you whether that's a good or bad thing).

Hotel is convenient to places around but need to pay $10 per day for carpark fee. Surprise of room do not have air con as they expect the guest to use the heater only. Even thought the weather is cooler but they can’t expect the same for the room as it do not have holes on the wall which allow air to come into the room.

Booked into the ‘new wing’ we will call it, this is the most modern Hotel I’ve stayed in and found it absolutely wonderful. Beautiful, well-appointed rooms, good size and mine even had a sliding door to a small balcony (think most have that in the new wing). The bathroom is stunning – admired the craftsmanship of the tiling, lovely plumbing fixtures – not cheap I might add. Oh did I mention the bed…has to be the best, most comfortable bed I’ve slept in and I’ve stayed in many places. Next week when there again I’ll lift the covers to see the bed make (brand). The other nice thing I was very pleased about was just how quiet this hotel is – not a peep from neighbours, no sounds of door banging – just a very peaceful 2 night stay. The lift to the 3rd floor is even posh, the corridors immaculately clean and tidy. There’s a gym on the ground floor just inside the foyer. CCTV cameras are abundant, even when going into or exiting the lift - for your security or the hotels peace of mind…you choose. Wish I had booked previous stays in Dunedin at this Hotel from the get go. Breakfast is served in Victoria’s Restaurant from 7am. It’s a continental buffet with an adequate selection and a menu for cooked. There was also a hot buffet selection one morning which I was probably too early for. The cooked breakfast is rather nice – beautifully cooked bacon, an extra of grilled tomatoes was as ordered. It’s actually a fair sized meal for breakfast including 2 slices of toast and very well priced. Add the continental breakfast to a cooked breakfast order and the continental becomes half price. No excuse for not getting a great start to the day when eating here. Table service is probably lacking a tad with used dishes left to pile up throughout your breakfast sitting.
