The lobby has a strong diffuser fragrance, as do the elevators. This is not ideal for patrons with respiratory issues. Too bad, because the lobby is beautiful.

Hotel Julien Dubuque is a historic landmark. A hotel has been at 2nd and Main in Dubuque since before Iowa became a state. It is a small city hotel, and the room rates are competitive with chain motels, but it is a distinctly better experience than most. If you go to Dubuque and you need a place to stay, experience an actual old school hotel.

Beautiful hotel

Beautiful hotel. Comfortable clean room. I got a really good deal, so decided to try it out. Didn't try the restaurant or the spa. Easy free parking and close to lots of stuff to do. Would stay again.

We would have enjoyed our stay more had our room been more quiet. The room was adjacent to another room with just a door. The neighbors were loud and annoying. It is not a good idea to put a senior couple in a room with a bunch of kids next door. Also not enough coffee and no complimentary water! I would want to stay overnight again.

I was so looking forward to staying in such a historic place. The lobby is beautiful. I got to my room and the musty smell was overwhelming and no matter how much I ran the AC it did not improve. By morning my eyes were wo itchy and red. The furniture and bed are in need of upgrades. The mattress sagged, bed was clean though. Bathroom floor was sticky and my shoes left footprints everywhere. No bottle of water in the room, which I would expect in a hotel room at that expense. Overall I was disappointed.

Lovely Hotel in the Heart of Town

First impression was lovely with an exquisite lobby. Loved having Caroline’s restaurant attached to the hotel. We were able to partake in a delicious brunch. Had we stayed longer we would’ve eaten there more. It seemed the ac wasn’t working properly in our room. We reported it to the front desk and they sent maintenance immediately and it was fixed in a matter of minutes. The room was very nice, and clean. The bed and pillows were very comfortable. There was great ambiance throughout the hotel. A great value for the money. We had a nice view of some of the cities 60 murals and the downtown strip. We were just there for 1 night otherwise we would have taken advantage of more of the wonderful amenities. We would most definitely stay here again.
