Bournemouth Highcliff Marriott Hotel4.0 out of 5.0

Stayed here two nights on recommendation but was left disappointed. Firstly it's a great location and a short stroll in to town. Second, the staff are really friendly and helpful. However room 406 despite being classed as a 'deluxe' room is actually a pokey little room up in the attic. A dark and dim room with a tiny arched window surrounded by old, ill fitting curtains (see my pics). The window itself did not close properly causing the wind to howl at night. The double glazing too has failed causing moisture and condensation to form between the panes resulting in almost not being able to see out at all. The bath plug was so full of matted hair that the bath barely drained and water becoming almost shin deep when merely having a shower. The whole roomed just felt like an old, poorly maintained sea side B&B and certainly not a Marriott Hotel and not worth the nightly cost. The hotel clearly has much nicer rooms available but am afraid I can only review on what I was given and it wasn't good.
We stayed here in December to attend a concert at the BIC and the location couldnt be more perfect for this. A short walk along the sea front and you are there! We had a lovely room with a sea view and luckily, even in December the weather was fine and the sun shining. The room was of a good size and the bathroom adequate with a bath and separate shower. We didnt eat here but just had a couple of gins when we came back, not cheap, but a good choice of good quality gins and tonics available. We got a good rate so would definitely recommend for the BIC
We stayed here a couple of weekends ago for a birthday weekend. Check in was very quick and easy. First impressions were quite a tired looking place. Not what I expected for a Marriott. We were allocated room 145 which was a lovely big room with two windows. However the windows overlooked other buildings and roof tops, so not even worth pulling the curtains back. All the sea view rooms had been booked at the time of our booking. Room was heated/air conditioned which was nice, with a fridge. Shower was pretty good. Again the furniture looked dated and gaudy. It is an old building, so to some extent they have to be in keeping with this. We did not use the leisure facilities, but did take a look. Looked very nice. Did not eat in the restaurant. Our room was very quiet. Corridors were a bit of a rabbit warren. Breakfast the following morning was good with plenty to eat. Meat quality was not brilliant and certainly no better than other hotels we have stayed in. Was nice to have eggs fried to order, also pancakes or omelettes. There was also fresh crusty bread which we developed a liking to! Location was brilliant for BIC or Bournemouth town centre, although there is a bit of a hill to climb to get back. There is also the gripe with the parking charges. I believe if you have paid that much for a room, parking should be included. We were fortunate as they did not log we had parked there when we arrived, their mistake, and they waived the charges. It could get expensive if you were paying to park there and then going out days and paying to park again. We normally stay in an independent hotel in Alum Chine but decided to come a little closer to Bournemouth. If I be honest I do not think that the Marriott was any better than our normal hotel. That said, we would return when back in Bournemouth.
The facilities in the hotel are very good. Not very modern but it was still clean and tidy and was a cut above your standard hotel. The staff are welcoming and helpful. We went for the sea view room and it was definitely worth paying extra for the view.
Great hotel fabulous views. Rooms are of great quality. Wifi very good. Gym is small and gets busy at about 6pm, this needs to be bigger I think for a hotel of this size. Spa area is also good and a great way to relax after a hard day. Will definitely use this hotel again
I will start by saying the hotel this weekend was in between Average and Very Good. Bournemouth is a great place to go and we were looking forward to our annual trip to Bournemouth and the Highcliff Marriott Hotel. This year 4 friends come with us for the weekend. The original room we were given was on the 2nd floor and I was slightly disappointed with the room as it was quite small and on the corner of the building. However, there was problems with the hotels Air Conditioning in that area and our room had no a/c at all. I called reception and they sent a maintenance person, who advised this was broken and they were awaiting a spare part. Asked if we could move, he advised we needed to contact reception. I called reception 6 times, I assume they were busy with check-in's. Eventually got answered and they moved us to the same room, but on the 4th floor. This was better as it was slightly bigger. Overall, this is a nice hotel and the staff are friendly. Lets hope they improve for next year.
we stayed for two nights to walk along the coast. staff are great especially Elesia and Camilla in the restaurant. all staff an asset to hotel. Food very good and we will come back. the good weather added to our pleasue
Ok so I've just got home after a 2 night surprise break away for wife and family. I was a little apprehensive about some of the reviews but I can honestly say we have had a lovely weekend. Yes it does need a little tlc and modernisation but that's in the pipeline. What counts is that every member of staff was polite courteous and extremely helpful. Even when I tried to buy a ring from the display as a surprise for my wife they even covered up for me. Location is great and we were in room 421 which over looked the beach and sea. Fabulous. Breakfast was typical Marriott standard and fit for a king.... who needed lunch. The kids loved the pool and amenities and I'm glad we all had a fabulous time. My only grip was having spent £400 for two nights was being charged to use the hotel carpark? I know spaces are tight but surely as guests this should be included in the price? My wife has said she would love to come back so I will keep an eye out and def book again... maybe after the refurb. Hugh and his team were great... book now you won't regret it. Marc
This hotel has charm of a bygone age, but with all up to date comforts & amenities. Our room had spectacular view, overlooking the North Sea. Breakfast buffet was the best of our trip. (My husband was delighted to find kippers served.) Special appreciation to receptionist Armando who took the initiative to print out map on best tube stop & walking directions to our next hotel, Marriott Kensington. This proved very helpful! Doorman Alex was always ready for a cheerful chat (sometimes we guests can get a bit lonesome). And Sauri (Sori) in bar was charming & fun. Our stay of 2 nights seemed over too soon. We were reluctant to leave.
Had a wonderful weekend away in this hotel reliving the start of our married life in Poole we have just celebrated our golden wedding....we visited Poole, Wareham, Lulworth Cove, Durdle Door and Swanage. The restaurant was good as was the food and the staff were very pleasant.....
