Recent guest reviews

The convenience of the waterfront directly outside your door as well as being in walking distance from the excitement of downtown Detroit.

I had to get a return.. the rooms were cold... elavators didnt work. Need renovation simple... when it was Marriot hotel was much better!

Got to the room and the previous guests had not checked out yet...how does that happen?! Large verbal argument on the 3rd floor went on for about 3 hours off and on. Called front desk and they knew nothing about it and it didn't stop after phone call. Not within walking distance from downtown Detroit and nothing to do close by. Everywhere else is full and all else fails I guess give this place a shot. I wasn't impressed about anything there was to say.

I have never written a review for a hotel before, but my experience with this hotel was just BEYOND TERRIBLE that I am here writing this review. First of all, the customer service is the WORST customer service I have ever gotten. I booked and paid through Orbitz for this hotel in May, but when I got to the hotel, the manager there was telling me that I didn't have any payment done under my name. Knowing that I have already paid, I showed her my receipt from Orbitz, but she continuously demanded for my credit card, ignoring what I was showing her. So I just gave her my credit card and was charged on the spot. I was hoping to get my money back when they have the system figured out that I have paid already through orbitz. However, I didn't get any refund back. I have called and emailed the hotel multiple times and it's almost December now. Now they are telling me that they never charged me at the hotel and that I only paid them through Orbitz. They never said sorry and didn't even put effort in trying to explain the situation. This is UNACCEPTABLE. The hotel itself is a decent hotel, but I would NEVER GO BACK. I would rather pay extra few dollars to get better customer service.

Was there on business, had to change rooms twice upon arrival, the room that I ended up staying in had No clock, curtains were barely hanging on rod they would not open and close properly. Front desk staff was nice and friendly. Had a little problem with an angry housekeeper. Had a beautiful view of the River and could see across to Canada. Overall was disappointed in the room.

Reservation through Orbitz was lost and I had to prove that I had actually made one. Even after presenting my email confirmation I was still told 'sorry', they didn't have it and since they were sold out, there was not a room available for me. Finally after pleading and waiting about 30 minutes, they found one. But as I was finishing up at the front desk another customer came and the same thing had happened to his reservation booked on Hotwire. I would not reserve a room here through a third party ever again.

First there was no wheel chair access from our room, then the room we reserved didn't exist. (a 2 bed river view room) so they gave a us a very stinky room facing the parking lot) We complained and we were told the woman we spoke to at the hotels front desk earlier must have lied to us. They gave us another room (still not river view) but didn't stink, but the thermostat didn't work. I asked them to come take a look at it and they asked "if I knew how to fix it"! Our room never got below 76 degrees that night. So should anyone stay here? Uummm NO!!!!!!!!!

We didn't run into any other guests, but staff were friendly. We could not turn off the air conditioner fan in the room, so it was uncomfortably cold. Otherwise, the room was comfortable and roomy. No soap in the bathroom. Could not get cable on the TV. The ice machine was broken. The outside pool area was nice.

The staff is exceptional. Room was a tad small but bed was comfortable. I needed a cab to Amtrak. Staff called Checker and after a 20 minute wait the clerk called them a second time. In the meantime a Detroit Police Officer arrived and after a nice chat he left. A few minutes later a cab from a different company arrived. The Police Officer saw the cab and sent him to the hotel. Wish I had his name so I could properly thank him.

The hotel and staff were awesome! The only bad thing is, someone walked into our room at 1 am while we were sleeping. Pretty scary!

We have stayed at this hotel a few times in the past and have always had a pleasant experience. The staff is always friendly and helpful. We really enjoyed the fact that you can go out the back door of the hotel and take a stroll along the river.

A little pricey but it was well worth it. All of the good things about being downtown with not many of the bad. The staff was very nice and friendly.

I had looked at this hotel online on a few occasions but was leary due to some of the reviews. We decided last minute to book a local hotel for the weekend since we had several downtown events to attend. The location was great for that and the fact that parking is free was a huge plus that kept us from choosing a possibly 'nicer' hotel. All the staff I encountered were very pleasant. The hotel itself may be considered a little dated but I love historic buildings so it was right up my alley. I thought the decor was great. I found our room to be quite clean and completely suited our needs. It was very spacious. I loved the huge vanity in the bathroom. The shower was good, lots of hot water. And the bed was extremely comfortable! Our only 'complaint' was that we couldn't seem to get the heat to work. Whenever I tried to turn it on, no matter how high I put the thermostat, cold air blasted in. We just decided to turn it off. We can't really fault the hotel because we didn't tell them about it until we left. We just didn't seem to have time to deal with it and it wasn't overly freezing so it didn't bother us that much. I think it was a great deal for the price.

I was in town for an interview. I wanted a hotel close to downtown, but without the downtown prices. I read review about the hotel and was worried about some of the review regarding the location. However, I was on a budget and didn't have much of a choice. I was very surprised by the hotel. I had no problems at all. I didn't really see any sketchy people or feel threatened coming in and out. The rooms were beautiful, although a bit old. The riverwalk was an added plus.

The hotel was really nice...very charming. Rooms are very large, quiet and comfortable. The location is great--It was nice to walk along the river. Hotel staff were pleasant and friendly. The only negative is that we were supposed to have a river-view room and the room was already given to someone else. Overall, very nice accommodations in the heart of Detroit.

The hotel met expectations. There was even a free shuttle to and from the Lions game on Sunday night. Only complaints were that the room did not look in great shape. The drawer wouldn't close on one of the nightstands, a few buttons were missing on the phone, and the TV was a little wobbly but nothing that would prevent us from returning.

Location was good... staff was friendly and helpful...restrurant was not good ...furniture should be upgraded...security was not obvious

I could have used a hair dryer. The lights around the bathroom mirror didn't work...maybe burned out bulbs. Otherwise, we loved staying there, and appreciated the OJ and coffee in the morning in the lobby as we went out front to watch the sun rise!

This is the cutest hotel! It decorated like an old 40s style and I love that it is in the river. It's super close to everything downtown.

Hotel was ok for the value. But not in a good area even though we felt safe.
