Located eight miles west of the center of town, most of the flights to the island originate from Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, or Penang. International travelers will transfer in those cities for flights to the island. The airport also serves as the location for the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition, a major aviation industry event.
