The cabin was poorly maintained. Before arrival I got an email a warning that it was lady bug season. No biggie, we've been in the smokies this time of year in cabins several times. Well, the bugs weren't just outside they weren't just lady bugs- there were flies, stink bugs and black wasps. There were several dead, dying live bugs upon arrival. I found a vacuum in the laundry cleaned up when we got there. While vacuuming up the dead bugs it was apparent the cabin wasn't well maintained as far as regular cleaning goes. There was THICK dust on the walls in the bathroom. Along with the curtains furniture being dusty. Rustic antique doesn't mean things don't need to be cleaned.At that point, not ideal but not a hill to die on. The following day when we returned there were a TON again. I vacuumed again. My daughter ended up having one land on her sandwich then on her. They were literally falling from the ceiling, which are tall wood so you really can't really exactly where when they're coming. At that point she had a full blown panic attack it's NIGHT. I messaged the host on VRBO the situation that it was not working out we were going to need to go. They didn't have anything available that night so we had to in pack, find another place, which is super expensive last minute, then pack to a 3rd place the next day. The next place wasn't great but also wasn't infested with bugs. We got a small return but not enough to cover trauma, hassle cost of additional lodging.
