Staff was very friendly, helpful and supportive. Walking distance from Schokolade Museum and also from the Cologne Cathedral and all the shopping boulevards in that area. Walking distance also from the Central Station and therefore very easy, near and cheap to get a cab to the station to travel to other cities or to go to the airports. Hotel is close to the river and the cruises.

Beds are comfortable and the rooms are very large. Easy access to local shopping and hotspots.

Very close to the river, walking distance to all main sight seeing places. Nice pool, the work out gym is a bit small but okay. My room was very very clean. The glass shower door had leakage and the restroom was always wet after shower, but that's not a big deal for me. Breakfast was expensive though. And for some reason I was charged for extra €10 for 3 night city tax when I checked out.

The Lyskirchen was the value hotel of our trip to Europe. Ultra modern spotless room (we did get an upgrade to a "superior" room because we accepted a "smoking" room.) No smoke odor detected in the room, although some in the hallway, because it was in the "smoking" section. (as ex-smokers, we really didn't mind). All the staff were very friendly and helpful and spoke good English, and patient if you wanted to practice your German. Location is just a block from the Rhine, which was convenient as we arrived in Cologne on K-D river boat and walked there with our luggage from the landing. It is near the Heumarkt and walking distance to the Altstadt.

Hotel front desk staff were unexperianced and unfriendly

Overall, it's good. The only cons is that you need to pay internet connection fee and the fee is a little bit high (5 euro for 30 minutes or 10 euro for 120 minutes).

I stayed here to attend GDC Europe and Gamescom. The hotel was clean, which is priority no.1 for me. I planned to use a taxi but ended walking to Koelnmesse -- the hotel is located one street corner from the Rhine and walking over to Koelnmesse or the cathedral is quite enjoyable. Lots of pubs, restaurants and cafés nearby (I recommend Extrablatt Café and Corkorian Irish Pub). The staff was helpful and welcoming. My room was rather small and lacked air-conditioning, but managed to stay comfortable throughout the week's heatwave, and had a shower. Great place for a low price.
