Some how, some way...we ended up with the room of all rooms, Dom Suite 601...on the 5th floor :) open the door to find a spiral staircase. Up you enter a loft of sorts with lounge chair, desk, couch, tv, king bed, amazing bathroom with excellent shower and wow...a stunning and perfect view of the cathedral, from each window....which was about 6 throughout....sit up in your bed and there it was. It didn't get any better than this. Wait, it actually did. All the windows opened up to feel the breeze, listening to the street life, soaking up the views. It still got better...darkening shades on each & every window...even in the bathroom! Seriously the best! We got breakfast one morning due to an early flight, had everything you needed, bread, yogurts, meats, cheers, fruits, scrambled eggs, etc. The location? Couldn't get much better, 3 mins to the Cathedral, 20 mins to Lanxess Arena (across the Rhine)...parking around the corner. This hotel has it all and we feel very lucky to of stayed right in the heart of Cologne!

Hotel is very central to everything. Cathedral at the front and old Town behind. Lots of lovely restaurants to chose from. Didn't find the staff very friendly. Room hot, air con not very good. Clean and comfortable room for the price. View from room 314 not that exciting! We did a boat ride, Cable Car and mini train, all very good. Not keen on their beer... Kolsch... sorry!

Good: Location in old town and right near train station Cleanliness of room Good staff Everything is new Not so good: Pillows are weird Room very very small Shampoo/cleaning products Small towels and no washcloths Overpriced breakfast

Spacious room for the price we are paying...nice welcome...I just arrived...the lobby looks good...the room is nice...the location is great near to cologne cathedral and to many cafes and restaurants and bars...I like It!!!

I chose this hotel specifically because it had air conditioning. However, while there is air blowing non-stop in the room, you cannot control the temperature and in the summer, that can mean a hot room. The good: the rooms look exactly like the website photos; really nice. They may be slight small but most city hotel rooms are. The duvets are very thick and fluffy (not so great in 78 degree room temp, but in winter, would be great), the bathroom is very nice, good water pressure. Free WIFI worked very well. Mostly German channels but international news choices. Carpets looked new, nice blackout curtains, room was very clean. Location is excellent; 5 minutes from the Dom/Train station and 2 minutes from the river. In the "old town" area, on a market square. Breakfast was pretty good, although for 11 euros, it should be. Nice selection with hot eggs, meat choices, beans and a large selection of cold cuts, cheeses, breads and cereals. The not so good: towels are small...if you are older than 12, they may not cover much. No clock in the room, no coffee maker. Location is in the middle of things, to include drunks at 2 am outside. And I asked for a quiet room; with the windows closed, you can't hear the outside, but if you need to open the window for air, you will hear it. Which brings me to the climate controls: There is a thermostat in the room and you can punch it up or down from 16 to (at least) 24 degrees C....but it will just go back to 24. I called the desk and the first employee told me that "it is the law in Germany that all hotel rooms must be at 24 C" -- I'm not kidding, that is a direct quote. He also insisted that I had the window open, which I did not, due to the drunks. The second gentleman (at 2 am) said, after I begged for help, that he would see what he could do, and he did somehow lower the temperature to 20 C, which made it just cool enough to fall asleep. When I stay in a city, I know I won't want to open the windows due to noise, which is why air conditioning in summer is important for me. Unfortunately, this hotel did not deliver on that.

We arrived past 1 a.m. and we had to find our way to the hotel from the train station. We didn't take any taxi because it was already late and based on reviews, it's just a walking distance anyway. Better have a locator map on your app or study the direction ahead so that you won't get lost. We had to drag our roller bags along some cobbled stones. It was easy for us to check in because we were expected to arrive late. However, they don't reply to your email right away. I sent them an email the day before our arrival because we had a flight delay and instead of being able to check in at the regular time in the afternoon, we had to arrive late night. I had to call them in the afternoon of the day itself because they were not responding so as to guarantee our booking. When we checked in, the receptionist said that he's aware that we're arriving late because I stated it in my email. So there, they got my email but they didn't bother to reply at all. Communication or correspondence with them is really not satisfactory because we were waiting for a package to arrive on the day of our booking but they said that they didn't receive anything. We found out from the courier that they sent it days before our arrival and the hotel receptionist did not accept it because we were not there yet. We would have understood that but they didn't notify us at least by email. And they didn't even took note of it because when we asked, they denied receiving anything. The staff were not that friendly or helpful as well. They just inform us matter-of-fact that they didn't receive anything. But one good thing about the hotel, the location is really very convenient because it was in the midst of all attractions. The Dom is just a walking distance and it is a sight to behold coming out of the train station. Our room is a bit smalll with a low asymmetrical ceiling that makes the room look cramp. We appreciate though the free bottled water and some fruits and candy jelly they left in our room when we went back in the afternoon. Also, a souvenir of the Dom. Overall, it was a good enough budget hotel.

Location was super amazing. It was in alter markt and in the midst of all attractions. The Dom and station 3 min away.bfst was good.the hotel hd a lift which is a big deal in europe.staff was helpful. They refunded our second day's bfst amount as we hd to leave at 6.30 am to catch our flight. The negatives were that the room is TINY. There is no place for 2 suitcases. there was no tea/coffee maker in the room. Bed -although very comfortable was small for 2 people. Bathroom was good size.shampoo, hand soap and bath gel are all in one. Overall we were happy with our stay

I booked this hotel after reading the ecstatic reviews by other guests on this site, and I can only say that many of you need to travel a bit more. This hotel is just middling at best; it is, however, reasonably well-kept, offers an adequate breakfast, and has a great location on the Old Market square near the Cathedral and within a 5 minute walk or so of the train station. The hotel is part of a chain, and the CityClass chain is usually dependable. Rooms are small and clean but mine smelled strongly of antiseptic and was very cold, and the thermostat did not seem to do much to alter the latter. The staff were friendly and honored my request to move from a room facing the square -- there was a large, noisy political protest that day and evening -- but they moved me into a claustrophobically small room with barely enough room to turn around in. The breakfast was fairly typical of what most German hotels offer -- and in my experience the Germans really like a hearty breakfast -- but was not by any means outstanding. The price, however, could hardly be beat, and in fact it saved me $50 to $100 off what other hotels in the old town were charging that weekend. I certainly would not rush back to this hotel but I would stay again if I could be assured that the heat in my room would work.

-automatic taps with photocell in the bathroom, you need three hands to wash your teeth or to shave. -no heating regulation in the room, two nights without sleeping, after hard work days at the fair. the receptionist advised, didn't care absolutely about it. -after paid in advance 1.200 euro, I had to pay cash 22 euro for our breakfast because, as the room was not ready they cannot check in me. they didn't trust about the payment. all these for 3.00 euro/night. I will forget the address.

I was delighted with my stay. Check in was fast and the staff helpful. The room was great. What was important to me was the internet was good the room was modern and clean, there was English channels and it was in a great location. There was a fridge but there was no kettle for tea and coffee. The parking arrangement was also satisfactory. The hotel is in the Alter Markt square with lots of restaurant options and just a few minutes to the Dom. What I didn't like was that the room was a little small. There was barely enough room to put our suitcases and still walk around comfortably for 2 people. However for the rest of the things I like this is a minor issue and I do understand that space is a premium in the heart of the city where the attractions are. Also the heating system was a bit difficult to work. I tried to set to the temperature I want but it would never reach that temperature. I could feel cold air coming from the vent. I called the reception and they said they would set the temperature for me but it still didn't happen. It remained at 24 degrees all the time. Fortunately I was not cold as the comforter were good and warm. The internet was good but you have to log in every time you return to the hotel. It was not automatic.
