We stayed in the hotel for two weeks, maybe unusual for some but we didnt think so. There is so much to do, to see and to visit in Cologne and of course further afield in Westphalia. The hotel is super smart in a great location, surrounded by some lovely restaurants and street cafes and drinking establishments (well frequented!) The hotel breakfast was the best we have ever had (even better than Hotel California in Berlin, which was great), a huge choice and all delicious - even for me a veggie and my wife who is gluten intolerant and the hotel provided without a fuss. The staff were very efficient and friendly and nothing was too much bother. The room was large enough for two and we didn't really get much bother with noise from outside. The room had air conditioning. Highly recommended,
Great hotel with lovely staff all of whom were very helpful. The location of the hotel is excellent, just 5 minutes from The Cathedral and Central Station and about the same distance from the river. Breakfast was very good with a nice selection of hot and cold buffet. Arriving from the airport was very easy on the S-Bahn, €2.80 taking around 15 minutes then a short stroll. Being right in the middle of the old town and with Cologne being very flat it is possible to walk everywhere but alternatively the tram/subway system is excellent and reasonably priced. In very close proximity to the hotel are a large number of great bars and restaurants. Local beer Kolsch is very good as is the pork knuckle served by most restaurants.
This hotel was a fantastic choice. Collectively as a group of 16 we would be happy to stay here again. The location was excellent with a choice of bars and restaurants in the immediate vicinity. We didn't sample the breakfast as chose to ate out instead. There were no irons or ironing boards in the rooms, we did get one from reception but the board didn't stay up. In some rooms the air con worked and in others it didn't. The one thing really missing was tea and coffee facilities which you would hope to have included at such a price.
As everyone writes - the staff are lovely. The location - right on the Alter Markt. Those are the two pluses. We were surprised for the cost of our room that we were on the first floor above the loud beer garden. Even with our windows closed (they were soundproofed), we could hear the crowd below. More importantly, the room was very small. Almost no place to put luggage, so good that we had little with us. In addition, I was on the right side of the bed near the window. I think that there was all of 40 cm between the wall and me, making getting out of bed not so easy. The worst part was that the room smelled of sewer gas, coming from the bathroom. We tried to ventilate the room - but oh yes, the noise below. We also tried to use the AC, but it was very slow and rather ineffective. The breakfast was ok. Lots of people - including people from outside the hotel! And the eggs were rubbery and cold. Not a terrible hotel, but I expect more for the price. The Tripadvisor recs steered us in the wrong direction on this one. Walking around the city there are a lot of places to choose from. I would look for better value for money.
We stayed on a busy Saturday night when the bars and restaurants in the square outside the hotel were buzzing. Our room though was quiet and very comfortable and the service we received from every single member of staff was exemplary. Thank you to them for making our last night of holiday fantastic. I would recommend this hotel very highly, much better than the bargain rates would suggest.
Stayed in this little hotel in the heart of Cologne just before Christmas. The location is superb, very helpful and welcoming staff. City map and helpful ideas were given on arrival. One of many Cologne`s Christmas markets were at our doorstep. Comfortable and very clean rooms. Excellent breakfast offers wide variety of local meat and cheese selection, loads of fresh fruits and vegetables were available as well. One useful tip in every room be careful, if the window is not hermetically closed the heating stops.
Very clean rooms but small for a double. Good sized buffet breakfast with warm and cold foods. (11 Euro pp) Can eat in the restaurant, but we didn't. Good for wheelchair access (lifts). Situated just around the corner from the Cathedral on the old market square. Although was disappointed that the square was not older. Too many new buildings. If you stay here, and park in the Heumarkt (underground parking) the hotel stamps your parking ticket so that you pay only 8 Euros for the overnight stay. Staff very professional and friendly/polite. Would stay there again.
We visited Cologne in February for a couple of nights after booking tickets to see Kings of Leon at the Lanxess Arena. This hotel was absolutely perfect, it is situated both near to the Dom and to the river. Within the square is the most beautiful brauhaus, Peter's Brauhaus, which did not disappoint. The rooms were clean and spacious, quiet and comfortable. We had a view of the Dom from our window. Breakfast was the best I have experienced within a European country. Plenty of choice with hot or cold food, and copious amounts of tea/coffee. Reception staff were extremely helpful in pointing out the best places to visit, avoiding tourist areas and time scales when walking to our concert. We had beautiful weather for a February weekend, the sun was shining and the rain stayed away. The streets weren't particularly busy which suited us well, however I can imagine the Christmas markets here will bring many crowds to the square. I will be visiting again in the winter months to experience and celebrate Christmas, and I will most definitely be staying in CityClass Hotel Residence am Dom again.
This is a relatively small hotel situated on one of the old market squares of Cologne. It is about 10 minutes walk from the railway station which is OK with small wheeled cases, though there are steps at the Dom cathedral so some may want to use a taxi. It has a small bar/bistro area on the ground floor for breakfast; this was open to the street in the fine weather when we were there. The rooms as relatively small but very adequately provisioned and very clean and tidy. Good value. Great staff. Central location.
Due to our 5 year anniversary we got an upgrade to the Dom Suite room 601. This was a very pleasant suprise. We liked the room and we could look from the windows to the Dom. Everything was nearby and the parking at the Heumarkt was also with reduction. If you check out let the reception scan the ticket and instead of being 16 euro per night it will be 8 euro what is much cheaper than a lot of other hotels in the neighbourhood. Breakfast was more than enough and I booked with breakfast and there were enough choices for a good start of the day. Nice staff and helpful. Clean, and also a hotel that felt good. everything is there, like good toiletpaper (always nice ;-) and also good shower soap. Stayed for 1 night and were happy with our stay. The price was also not that much. Paid 131 euro for 2 persons with breakfast. Checkout is at 11. Also well secured with cards and camera's. When you enter the lift you have to hold your room card on the scanner and then press floor.
