Great location, smelly room. Right in the heart of old Colmar, you really couldn’t ask for a better location. The hotel is a collection of inter-connected buildings, some without elevators, so be careful when booking if you have mobility challenges. The staff, was reluctantly helpful and less multi-lingual than was implied. Our room, although small, had a nice outdoor terrace. But the room itself was well-worn and had an unpleasant mildew odor that wouldn’t go away even with leaving the windows open. Plus, it looked like the bathroom was last renovated in the 1970’s with a patch-work décor best described as sadly ugly. Would not recommend staying here.
This hotel is very well located, in the historic city center's semi-pedestrian area, very near the cathedral and a short walk from Petite Venisse. Ours was a large room overlooking the street, a narrow canal, and a bustling restaurant row. The windows provided excellent sound-proofing. Our room was clean and attractive, after its fashion; the bed was comfortable; and the bathroom was large. Both the room and the bathroom lacked sufficient storage. The breakfast buffet was good, and the staff friendly. The desk staff were, for the most part, friendly and helpful. The hotel offers parking in a covered lot about a 10-minute walk away. Overall, this is a very good hotel, a good choice.
The room was perfect with a small balcony which we ate dinner on. Smoke salmon, assorted meats and pate.. white wine. At first we thought the bed would be uncomfortable due to the old fashion bed spread. In fact it was very comfortable and a wonderful place to stay
My husband and I have recently returned from a 6 night stay at this hotel. The hotel is situated in the centre of the very pretty Colmar. The building itself is just beautiful and excellently restored. We had a traditional room which was so lovely and overlooked a pretty courtyard with all the mod cons you'd expect. The staff are all very friendly and are there if you need anything without being intrusive. One particular receptionist was very helpful in organising a late night taxi for us. Colmar shuts down after 10pm and we were let down last year by a taxi pick up but this lady went to a great deal of trouble to make sure she got a reliable taxi driver for us this time. There are some excellent restaurants nearby and the covered market do a very tasty breakfast overlooking one of the prettiest parts of Colmar. We hired a car and did the wine route and towns last year which is an absolute must but this time we got a train to Strasbourg and Basel. Only 40 mins from Colmar. We had the most amazing boat trip in Strasbourg and the cathedral takes your breath away. We will most definitely be back to Colmar and of course will be staying at the Hotel Saint Martin.
The hotel is made up of a collection of buildings that have been renovated and tied together (sort of). The check-in policy was 3pm only and no deviation. Consequently the lobby are was crammed with bags of those waiting to check in. It was a bit chaotic at 3 and wonder if this is the best plan. The room was comfortable and one was in the heart of the Christmas market as soon as you were out the door. Plenty of restaurants and shops nearby so the location was ideal. Good choice for our needs.
In the middle of downtown this beautiful hotel welcomes you with comfortable rooms. I visited the city during the Marche de Noel and my view from the room was amazing! The staff is friendly and I really liked the visit.
The hotel is on the Grand Rue on the Place L’Ancienne Douane and so it can’t be any more Central for a stay in Colmar. Though it was a little drive to get to it given its location and the 1-way streets the GPS had no problem getting us to the front door. It is close to parking and walking to/from parking was straightforward and much shorter than the drive. All the sights are within walking distance. We booked a superior double room and got 301 which is a large, charming room facing the Grand Rue. The bathroom is small but well laid out and modern. My only suggestion is to change the old style hairdryer. The air conditioner worked well and though noisy, one can lower the fan speed to reduce the noise, and it worked well to drown out the loud music from outside on a Saturday night. There is a safe in the closet and a minibar. Breakfast was 12 euros and was adequate with a selection of bread, cheese, ham, cereal, yogurt, fruit, and you can boil eggs. The location is the best thing about HSM and we would be happy to stay here again if our travels take us back to Colmar.
Very, very old but completely updated and very charming rooms with comfy beds and pillows and lovely shower. The desk was very helpful but we ended up paying more than expected because our confirmation was in French and we made assumptions. Beautiful large breakfast with do it yourself boiled eggs and a delicious assortment of local sweet breads and rolls, local cheeses and lunch-type meats. A perfect location in the mostly walking area. No car park for the hotel but a very large public place is about 5 minute walk.
This hotel is rated 3 Stars but do not know how it got such a high rating. There was no room service. The front desk people barely understood English and were not the friendliest. The breakfast was acceptable but over priced; especially since there a great little bistro (Le Bistrot du Koifhus) with outdoor seating just 3 doors down at half the price. Crystal is the owner and very nice. The hotel advertises free parking but there is no parking on site. The lot is at least a 3 minute walk away. The town is apparently a day trip destination for surrounding towns as we met a lot of French, German and Swiss visitors. The town is beautiful and picturesque but the people were just not very welcoming. We spent two nights there and that was more than enough. We feel like we have seen all we care to see in Colmar and will not be returning.
Smallish room but very quaint with modern bath, good bed, wardrobe, wood beams, a/c if needed. Breakfast buffet (extra) was good or could go 3 doors away to bakery. No coffee in room, but you could also go to the buffet and get coffee to go if that's all you wanted. Marathon the morning we left for Paris so had to get a cab before streets closed at 8am and front desk was very helpful with this. Nice little outside patio available. Great location. Went to covered market which was excellent for pastries, coffee, cheeses, etc. and great for take-out. (But the Vietnamese stand had a very rude owner, and even though we bought their excellent fried spring rolls, rice and drink would not let us sit at the available tables/counter.) Colmar is very picturesque and 2 days is all you need to hit all the shops.
