Holiday Inn Express Chester - Racecourse3.0 out of 5.0

Great location in the centre of Chester, which allowed us to maximise our sightseeing. Stayed one night on our way north. Super fast check-in by friendly staff. Our newly refurbished room had a view across the racecourse to Wales. Room was welcoming, comfy and cosy (smaller than most budget chain hotels but much better furnished). Enjoyed the free cooked and continental buffet breakfast. Free parking much appreciated. Only downside was other ‘guests’ shouting and slamming doors at 2am – the thin walls of the room couldn’t keep that out.
Situated about 5 minute walk from the Walls, overlooking the Racecourse, lots of free parking, hotel looks tired and worn from the outside but has been renovated inside, friendly staff, well equipped rooms, large double plus large pull out single, good power shower and fluffy towels!, full cooked buffet breakfast now available which is an added bonus. Would recommend and revisit.
We stayed here recently as we were attending a family wedding in Chester. We chose this hotel because it was walking distance to town and had free parking. It was also near the venue for the wedding reception. We were very impressed. The staff were very welcoming and efficient. The rooms were excellent with very comfy beds and a lovely shower. It was also nice to have bath towels that were a decent size. The reception area/ breakfast area had lots of seating with free teas and coffees for hotel residents. Breakfast was excellent with lots of choice. The hotel is right next to the racecourse so would be great if you were going to the races. We would definitely stay here if we were visiting Chester again.
My husband and I stayed there for 1 night after a works do in Chester Racecourse. The hotel is in perfect location and offers free parking. Rooms were comfortable and not noisy. Breakfast included was basic, but sufficient.
Stayed for one night great location easy cheak in friendly staff good sized room.one bad point small double bed but not the end of the world .Good bathroom very clean and nice shower gel the free breakfast was very good tasty and good choice
The hotel is very handy for Chester's many attractions, the racecourse, river Dee, shopping and the many historical buildings. The staff are really friendly and welcoming. They provided a map and information on getting around and which pubs and restaurants are nearby. The rooms are clean with everything you need and breakfast is good. The only negative was our rooms 122, 124 & 126 were opposite the cleaners room and they were quite noisy in the morning...6.30am which woke everyone up. Would still recommend for your stay in Chester.
Stayed just the one night in one of the refurbished rooms on 2nd floor. Small room but comfortable enough. Can't understand why no air con as rooms are new though....! Breakfast was good and plenty of choice and it's included in room rate. Spire elite customer but no room upgrade due to probably that they don't have a higher grade of room. All staff were friendly and helpful so would happily rebook here
Clean, efficient staff, good breakfast, friendly bar and within 5 minutes walking distance of Chester town centre. If you like horse racing the hotel is right on the racecourse. Free parking too. Overall a very good hotel and I would definitely stay there again.
Couldn’t fault the service provided by the staff but the room and the breakfast let this hotel down. Located less than a five minute walk to the town centre the hotel offers free parking for guests. However, the rooms are dated and I found it extremely noisy which didn’t make for a good nights sleep. I woke to discover there was no hot water for a shower but this resolved itself when I returned from breakfast. The breakfast was poor and tasteless and while it’s advertised as “free” if I stayed here again I suspect I’ll wonder into town for my morning meal.
We had a one night stay on a Saturday. The hotel was quiet even though there was a hen party or two there. (Well behaved hen parties I have to say).Very comfortable room overlooking the racecourse. All the facilities you expect from a decent chain including secure on site parking.Plenty of disabled bays and two electric charging bays. Staff very helpful. Breakfast was only scrambled egg, bacon, sausage and beans plus cereals and fruit. Not particulary hot either. All drinks were out of machines.Nothing wrong with the hotel .It is convenient for the racecourse and city centre but this will be our one and only stay.
