Holiday Inn Express Chester - Racecourse3.0 out of 5.0

A superb location overlooking the race course and 5 minutes walk into the city centre. Parking is available on site but depending on time of arrival you might have to hunt for a space. We found one and once we went into the hotel we received a very warm welcome. Our room overlooked the race course, a bonus, it was clean and comfortable with plenty of space. The bathroom was equally clean and the towels were a generous size and not at all like cardboard. Breakfast is buffet style but well presented with plenty of choice both hot and cold. The hot food was hot unlike some of the other budget chain hotels I've stayed in and considering that the coffee came from a machine it was very good. The staff on reception are only too willing to help with tips for restaurants and directions to these and other attractions. All in all a great base for exploring Chester and excellent value for money.
Car park easily accessible and can leave your car there for a few hours after you check-out to allow for shopping/leisurely ventures nearby. Room was clean, modern bathroom and comfortable bed. Staff were friendly and informed us of everything you would need to know. Perfect location if you plan on shopping in chester/a night out as only half a mile away from the centre.
Just enjoyed a night here and very happy with the stay for the price paid. Friendly welcome from the reception staff who explained that the lift was out of order but offered to carry our bag to the room but as we were on the first floor not a problem. Room was comfortable but fairly basic and suffered from noise from the road which continued throughout the night. The complimentary breakfast was good- nice quality and tasty. Would definitely stay here again but would ask for a room away from the road.
the hotel is very nice. rooms are vey clean and very well decorated. .you have all the facilities in the room you need . only 10 min walk to the town and about 2 min from the wall ,they are having some work done in some of the rooms so there are some noise from workmen , but they did not start till about 8 am . if you get a room at the back you have views across the race course.. but there is a train line as well, so you can here the noise from the trains but its not that loud .. breakfast is basic but there is plenty of it ,
This was our second visit to Chester and to this particular Holiday Inn. Unfortunately the lift had broken but we were offered 1st floor unfurbished accommodation or 2nd floor refurbished accommodation. We chose the latter and were very pleased. The novelty in the bathroom was the loo seat that closed itself!! The room was very nicely decorated and we were given two pillows each, one was firm and the other was soft. A nice touch. As always in hotels there was not a great deal of hanging space but as we were only staying for a few nights it was not a major issue. The staff were excellent on all levels and very helpful. We enjoyed the breakfast, something for everyone. I think previous reviews regarding not enough choice of food was extremely nit picking. All in all another good stay with this company
Stayed for one night. Lift did not work, bathroom extractor fan had clearly not been working for some time as there was significant mould buildup in the shower, and there was no provision for an evening meal in the hotel. Booked a standard room for my wife and I, but on arrival was told that only a twin bed room was available. Breakfast was good, and common areas were clean, although corridors were cold. Well located for central Chester, so there are alternatives for food in the evening.
Stopped here for the night after visiting Cheshire oaks... ok the hotel was clean apart from stains on carpet. Fire alarm went off also at night once (but again better safe than sorry) it was a budget hotel. Pluses: breakfast was lovely big selection Location and parking great Front desk staff were lovely in fact would of given it 3 stars if it wasn't for them. Cons Carpet stained Draw in room broken
We stayed at this hotel as a last minute overnight stay due to a change in travel plans. Rooms in the hotel are undergoing refurbishment and based on the one we stayed in are finished to a high standard. Upon our arrival we had the misfortune of meeting the receptionist for check-in who was probably the most unpleasant individual I have encountered when booking into a hotel. Staff in front of house within the reception/bar give impression that you are an inconvenience, maybe switch them for the room cleaning staff who appear to be only welcoming individuals in the hotel. Great location and perfect if you want to look at rude/unpleasant staff.
Lovely hotel. Stayed at the hotel for one night. All staff were friendly and welcoming. Room was very spacious and spotlessly clean. Loved the towels! Breakfast was nice. Hotel is in a good location with great views of the racecourse. Would love to stay at the hotel again when we’re next in Chester.
Just returned from a two night stay. The hotel is in a great position, just a short walk from the city centre. It does not have a restaurant, but breakfast was served, buffet style, in the bar. It was very good, with a choice of hot or cold food. The scrambled egg was really good. The food was very hot but let down by cold plates. The bar was fine and drinks reasonably priced. We had a lovely clean room on the 3rd floor overlooking the racecourse, which was what I requested, so that we could watch the firework display. The only problem was that the lift was out of order. The staff were very pleasant and helpful. Parking is free.
