Santorini Thira National Airport (JTR)
The major airport for the island is Santorini Thira, which is 3.7 miles south-east from the center of the city of Kira, north of the village of Kamari. It is a relatively small airport but offers various transport options for getting around the island.
Santorini is a dramatic, cliff-filled island in the Aegean Sea. Fringed with black, red and white pebble beaches, its landscape was forever changed by a major volcanic eruption over 3,500 years ago. The legacy of this event is endless rocky, ruggedly romantic vistas that are particularly stunning at sunset.
It is very easy to get around Santorini. If you choose to walk, you will be rewarded by many stunning coastal and cliff views. As well as this, public buses are cheap and stop at all the main visitor attractions. Bear in mind though that there are no set schedules for buses. If you choose to rent a car then there are a number of major providers on the island, including Budget Rent-A-Car, Avis and Hertz. U.S. citizens who wish to drive in Greece will need an International Driving Permit as well as a valid U.S. license. The country is right-hand drive.

While in Santorini, aim to visit the ruins of the Akrotiri Bronze Age village, which is a 20-minute drive from the center of the island and is rumored to be the original Atlantis. Hidden gems of the island include the brilliant red sand and gorgeous clear waters of Red Beach (Akrotiri Beach), so you could maybe visit it after seeing the ruins. The hiking trail between the two main towns of Oia and Fira takes two and a half to three hours and is particularly stunning at sunset. Additionally, you might want to visit Pyrgos, a pretty village that is still off the beaten tourist trail but has wonderful views, winding paths, churches, galleries and vineyards to enjoy. You can reach it by foot from the center of Santorini in around 45 minutes.
