It's an ok flight -- just average
Fast and friendly service
They were very friendly and even served us a snack fast on a short flight which hardly happens in America.
Short flight from Athens to Santorini.
Great flight and on time
Not happy with the almost guaranteed flight delays.
They had family check in which was nice.
This volcanic Greek island is known for its stunning views and incredible sunsets. Book a flight to Santorini and you’ll be able to watch the white-washed houses that tumble down steep cliffs gradually take on the hues of the setting sun.
Between late April and November, the weather is at its warmest and the chance of rain interrupting your blissed-out day on the beach is very slim indeed. The summer months of July and August are when peak season is in full swing – during these months the island can feel a little crowded and the cost of your flight will certainly rise. To secure a good deal you must book as early as possible.
Travel outside of the peak season, will offer you a more relaxed atmosphere and a better choice of Santorini flights and hotels. The weather remains fair throughout the year – although in winter you are unlikely to be braving the sea too often.
There are plenty of ways to find Cheap Flights to Santorini when you book with Orbitz.
Optimal flight times from US airports to Santorini are:
Santorini International Airport is just three miles from Thira and serves around two million passengers each year.
For onward travel there are public buses, airport taxis and private shuttles running routes to destinations like Kamari, Oia and Fira. There’s also a car rental option at the airport if you want to have your own transport throughout your stay.
No carriers offer direct flights to Santorini from the US. Those that provide connecting services include:
Buses run regularly across the island – and are incredibly cheap to use. Although the vehicles are air conditioned they can get stuffy in peak season due to the number of people using them.
If you are using a taxi during the summer months it is advisable to book your cab in advance – there are only a limited number on the island and they are in high demand.
Rental cars should also be booked early, particularly if you are visiting in July and August. Adventurous travelers can set off on a rental scooter to explore the island, with hire costs from as little as 15 euros a day.
Boats run between the major ports, which is a great way to get another perspective on the island. And cycling and walking are also a joy on Santorini – the walk between Fira and Oia is particularly spectacular.
The landscapes of Santorini were formed by a giant volcanic explosion way back in time. This caused the top of the island to be literally blown off with today’s flooded crescent caldera being left behind. It is speculated that this explosion may have been the basis of the myth behind the lost city of Atlantis.
Towns such as Fira and Oia cling dramatically to the steep cliff sides, with white-washed buildings cascading down to the azure waters below.
Around the island you’ll also find cave houses, vineyards (one of the world’s oldest can be found here) and tiny chapels to explore. You can also catch a boat around the island to visit its hot springs.
If you book a hotel in Oia with a west-facing infinity pool you can relax on your sunbed every night – cocktail in hand – and admire the most beautiful sunsets you are ever likely to see.
