Milwaukee When to Go

Similar to Chicago, Milwaukee likes to celebrate the summer months with a slew of events. Polish Fest, the largest Polish festival in the country, kicks off the summer activity in mid-June. That same weekend, the Milwaukee Art Museum hosts the annual Lakefront Festival of the Arts, where artists get to display their latest wares on the outdoor grounds of the museum. Billed as the “World’s Largest Music Festival,” Milwaukee’s Summerfest brings artists like Katy Perry, Brittney Spears, Peter Gabriel, Sugarland, and Kid Rock to entertain fans on the shores of Lake Michigan. 

Spring and fall are also good times to visit the city. Even more so when the Milwaukee Brewers are in town and you can catch a game at the decade-old Miller Park, whose retractable roof keeps out the inclement weather. The Lakefront Marathon is held in early October, when the fall colors are at their prime. The fish are biting this time of year, so grab a fishing charter to hook one of the trout or salmon in the lake. Or simply take a Sunday Brunch cruise along the city shoreline.

The weather outside might be frightful in the winter low-season, but you’ll be inside touring the many attractions, like the Miller Brewery, the Harley Davidson Museum, and the Milwaukee Art Museum. At night, check out the ballet, symphony, and an emerging theater scene.
