Knoxville McGhee Tyson Airport

The McGhee Tyson Airport stands as a memorial to a local boy who died during World War I. The airport is only 10 miles from downtown Knoxville, and you can reach many destinations around the city in just 20 minutes. Travelers can reach those destinations by rental car, taxi, limousine, or bus. Thirteen taxi companies operate out of the airport, including Discount Taxi and Gold Cab. Rates start at $2, with additional rates charged for waiting and miles traveled. The minimum fare for an airport pick up is $10. Thrifty, Enterprise, Budget, Alamo, National, Avis, and Hertz provide rental cars for travelers.

Weather and Highlights

The climate in Knoxville ranges from cool winters to hot summers. A summer visit might result in temperatures well above 80 degrees Fahrenheit and high humidity. If you visit during the winter, you will see daytime temperatures in the mid to high 40s. Keep in mind that the temperature can drop 10 degrees or more once the sun sets. Depending on when you visit, you might get the chance to watch a football game at the University of Tennessee with thousands of other fans. The working farm at the Fruit and Berry Patch World's Fair Park, with its remaining artifacts and displays, and the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame also delights visitors.
