Traveling to Bimini

Bimini is a district in the Bahamas that encompasses a number of islands in the western part of the nation. With its sunny days, extensive coastline and white sand beaches, it is an ideal spot for a tropical getaway. With Orbitz.com, you can book flights to Bimini and find great deals on hotels for the duration of your stay.

Bimini Airports

Bimini is made up of multiple islands, the largest of which are North Bimini and South Bimini. Bimini International Airport is located on South Bimini on Airport Road in the center of the island. Because the island is so tiny, the airport is located less than three miles from any point on South Bimini. If you are traveling to Alice Town on North Bimini, you will need to take a short ferry ride.

Transportation from the Bimini Airport

When you arrive at the Bimini International Airport, you will need to take a taxi to your hotel or the ferry port. Many hotels can arrange for a private transportation option; call in advance to ask about options. The taxi ride takes five to ten minutes and costs about $5.

Weather in Bimini

Located just fifty miles from Florida, Bimini has a similar weather pattern as Miami or Fort Lauderdale. Although the islands do not have dramatic seasonal changes, but there is a slight variation between the warm and hot months. From October to May, temperatures average 72 degrees Fahrenheit. From June to September, most days average 80 degrees Fahrenheit. No matter what time of year you visit, bring light layers, sunscreen, and an umbrella to protect against for the occasional thunderstorm.

Things to Do in Bimini

With its proximity to Florida, many travelers come to Bimini for short visits. One of the most popular activities in Bimini is big-game fishing. The waters off of the islands are known for their proliferation of marlin, tuna and swordfish, and many tour operators run regular chartered fishing trips. If youd prefer a relaxing trip, you can sunbathe on the islands white sand beaches, snorkel in the shallow water or dive at one of shipwrecks that surround the islands. One of the most popular is the wreck of the SS Sapona, which is partly above water. In the evenings, the bars and restaurants in Alice Town offer live music and dancing. For a quiet, peaceful vacation, check out the isolated resorts on South Bimini, which offer a slower pace of life than the bustling streets of Alice Town. The weather in Bimini is pleasant year round, so you can enjoy outdoor activities no matter when you visit. The low season runs from mid-April to November, and hotels often drop their rates to stay competitive.
