I cannot say enough nice things about Zero George! So much attention to detail there. The property is lovely - you really feel like you are walking back in time. We stayed in the back house, which I would recommend as it is away from the busier street. The location is perfect - everything is in easy walking distance. Zero George goes out of it's way to make you feel welcome and take care of every need, and they manage to do it in a way that is not too much or intrusive. You felt far more like a treasured guest than a client. Every evening they serve an exquisite cheese board and offer delicious wines as a complimentary happy hour. Guests sit around the porch and property and it is very congenial and relaxing. The room was gorgeous. (We were in room 3). Large, airy, immaculately clean. It was filled with lovely products, Every night came homemade cookies and water in their own distinctive bottles. My only quibble was that we wished for a firmer mattress. Having said that, the linens were soft and comfy. We did not eat dinner there, which was most definitely our loss. We did order some of their appetizers while we were enjoying the cheese board and wow! Simply remarkable! Especially when you see the tiny kitchen. You really can't go wrong here. We will definitely return.
This was our first trip to both Charleston and the Zero George. While we loved the city, our experience at the hotel was mixed. These are the things the Zero George did well: - Hotel Facility/Room – Great historic property. Room was outstanding in condition and cleanliness … It felt more like a (nice) room at a friend’s house than a hotel room. Room was frequently maintained while we were out, and we were very pleased with condition and cleanliness. - Location – Location on George St allowed my wife and I to walk to a variety of attractions without the need to use (and park) the car. Walks through the streets of historic Charleston for shopping/meals were a highlight of our trip. Charleston is a very walkable city, and the Zero George location made things fairly easy. - Food – While we only had breakfast in the hotel restaurant, the quality and variety of food was excellent. We also enjoyed the complimentary wine and cheese offering. - Attentive Staff – Hotel staff was very attentive to guest needs, offering to bring wine/cheese to our room if desired. In general, I felt they would try to accommodate any reasonable request. Now the places where the Zero George did not succeed on our trip: - Road Noise – While the location was great for walking the city, our room backed up to busy E. Bay St, which made road noise a regular companion. While it wasn’t a huge concern, potential guests should be aware of the potential for significant noise. Frankly, when you find complimentary ear plugs in the room, it’s probably not a good sign ... - Staff Friendliness – This was our bigger concern. While the hotel staff was always polite, they were definitely not friendly. Aside from the housekeeping staff, other staffers struggled to make eye contact and offer a simple “Good morning.” Most of the staff seemed disinterested in our plans, or if we’d had a good day. The height of this disinterest was the checkout process in which we weren’t thanked for our stay, asked if we’d had a good visit, or asked if we needed help with the luggage … I was shown the receipt from our stay, asked to sign, and told, “That takes care of it.” It was a strange mix … A hotel where I honestly believe they’d serve me wine and cheese in the middle of George St if I asked … But would then struggle with the most basic greeting or sign of recognition if I passed the same server later in the day. This was a big deal to us, and it took away from our experience at the Zero George. Bottom line … Would we stay at the Zero George again? Probably not. While there were definite positives to our stay, there are other hotels/B&B’s in Charleston with the benefits of the Zero George, lower cost, and more genuine hospitality.
Common areas are quaint and comfortable with authentic southern charm. Rooms are well appointed and service is top notch! Breakfast includes berries and made from scratch biscuits, fresh squeezed juice and yogurt. We completely enjoyed our stay at the Zero George hotel!!
First class in every way. Staff friendly, helpful, knowledgeable. Wonderful ambiance. DO NOT miss having dinner on your visit. We are experienced travelers, but have seldom in our lives had a better meal.
Zero George is a beautiful property. It's in convenient location - a 5 to 10 minute walk to the bustling historic area of Charleston. It's nice to be a bit separated for the peace and quiet. The property itself has everything you need for a relaxing and pampered stay. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. The amenities and service at Zero George really set it apart from others in the area. The staff are incredibly helpful and friendly. They arranged several dinner reservations, tours and spa appointments for us. Every aspect has local Charleston flair including the delicious complimentary breakfast and happy hour for guests. We look forward to visiting Zero George again!
This restaurant is situated in a historic house on the corner of George Street. The building is very quaint and beautiful upstairs is run as a B&B and downstairs the restaurant area is very well furnished. There only appear to be around 36 covers available at any point in time and this restaurant is very popular so book well in advance if you plan to visit. Food wise there are a variety of options available from going for the multi course taster menu to the 3 course option. My group went for the latter option and added the taster snack option as well. For me I went for the asparagus deconstructed tart to start and this was then followed by the chefs version of beef wellington. These dishes were amazing and well worth a try. Overall a very nice restaurant. This is not cheap but is well worth a try. Would return.
Zero George exceeded every expectation one would expect from a boutique hotel. From the intimate and cozy accommodations, to the complimentary bikes to tour the city, to quite literally the most amazing dinner of our lives...I can't say enough about our experience. Do yourself a favor and stay here if you ever find yourself going to Charleston. We will be back...can't imagine staying anywhere else.
This is one of the most charming hotels I have ever had the pleasure of staying. I would consider this more of a luxury bed and breakfast! The staff and the service make the price worth while. I feel like we had one of the best rooms with a huge king bed and comfortable bathroom. The bathrobes were my favorite!!! They also had a nice sound machine and the turn down service was exceptional. I loved this hotel and wish we could have stayed longer to enjoy the amenities more!
Zero George is Charleston in that its Staff is very friendly, warm and extremely helpful, the Inn and its rooms are charming, comfortable and very well appointed, and its restaurant as well as the Inn's food amenities are excellent. This was our first visit to Charleston, and it was made special by Zero George and its Staff. May be the best compliment we can provide with regard to Zero George is that it has persuaded us that we need to periodically return to enjoy the wonderful atmosphere it has created. Zero George is both an excellent boutique hotel and a superb restaurant with an outstanding chef. One of the things that makes Zero George stand out is the professional friendly staff ... they're knowledgeable and helpful beyond expectation. As for the meals, breakfast was a very nice offering; complimentary wine and cheese was special; and for dinner we had a many course meal with wine pairings that had our fellow diners as well as ourselves somewhat in awe of the chef. With regard to the dinner, the staff did a great job explaining each course. We also liked the complimentary bicycles ... for us they were perfect for touring the many narrow streets south of Broad Street. All and all, a tremendous place to stay.
