Great place to stay if traveling by air. Close to airport. Quiet safe

It is a decent location for us. The building itself is extremly outdated. The windows provide no sound barrier. The carpet and curtains have been around way to long. The bathroom was a decent size. Needs better placement of light switches and outlets.

I stayed in this hotel many times over 30 years. It was one of the anchors of downtown Des Moines. The last few times, it was run down, worn out, although still clean. The amenities had dwindled. Since the renovation by Hilton properties, it is now very nice, has a great bar/restaurant, and has been updated to be very open and bright. The rooms are very deluxe with nice furnishings. Quite a difference from the '80's and 90's! Great to see such a historical landmark brought back to life!

I absolutely love this hotel! The staff is great and the rooms are appointed exceptionally well. The location is awesome if you are visiting someone at Drake University. Wonderful restaurants near by. This visit had a few things that were off - which is not common. Our first room smelled so bad of cigarette smoke, we had to move (this is a non smoking hotel) ... they were great about helping us! Our microwave was full of crusty food bits. The walls in the bathroom had white "stuff" sprinkled all over - easily removed with a wet wipe. So, the cleaning staff needs a pep talk. Even our pillow cases looked wrinkled, like they had not been changed. But knowing the reputation and our past experiences, and the responsiveness of staff - we will continue to stay at this awesome place! Everyone has an off day. LOVE THIS PLACE!
