We spent one night here near the end of a two-week trip visiting the entire Irish island. The location is close enough to restaurants, pubs, and shops to walk to them, but situated on a busy street so there's a bit more traffic noise. Our room faced the street, but we were not bothered by the noise at night. We heard no noise from other guests either. The room was spotless and well-appointed. Furniture and linens were attractive, clean, comfortable, and in excellent condition. The bathroom was a good size and immaculate, with absorbent, clean towels and many personal toiletry items. The shower's water pressure was excellent and there was plenty of hot water. Breakfast was good, but not better than what we ate anywhere else in Ireland. I asked if I could have a bowl of porridge with a side of black or white pudding, but was told I had to select either the Irish breakfast (with everything in it) or the porridge. Other B&Bs around Ireland had graciously allowed me to order that, so I couldn't understand why it was a problem here. The landscaping around the property is gorgeous, with lots of thought, attention, and work evident. The parking spots are located in front and in back. The spaces are limited, so it might be a good idea to arrive early to get a spot that's easy to get in and out of.

"The Personal Touch" .... claims the sign outside Avlon House .. It's not wrong. From the minute you are met at the door on arrival by the host (Tom) the personal touch is evident throughout. We were also personally welcomed at reception every morning and escorted into to the dinning room and served a five star breakfast. At the end of our stay we were also met again at reception, thanked for our support & wished a safe trip. And while we had this individual and personal attention, we were also uninterrupted at any time in our lovely quiet rooms (where you would not even be aware there were actually any other guests staying). In short , throughout our all too short stay, we were treated like royalty. Avlon House holds a Failte Ireland 4 Star Award and its absolutely evident and clear why (and its a high end 4 for sure).. The rooms are spacious, immaculate and very well resourced. The WIFI was fast and the bandwidth plentiful ( coped easily with streaming Sky football !). The TV channel choices in house were vast (and visual quality was High Definition). In the room we stayed in (room 24) there were even extra facilities provided over and beyond what you would expect in a bed and breakfast ( Razor and shaving foam. Toothbrush and toothpaste sewing kit along with other useful items). The breakfast served was fantastic and plentiful (over generous in its servings). The quality of the food served was on a par with anything you can order at a high end restaurant. Ideally located just a short ten minute walk from the town centre pubs and restaurants, Avlon house also has plenty of off the road car parking room. Ignore any negative reviews you may (unlikely) read for Avlon house. It offers a FIVE star luxurious experience .... we will be back

The owner was really nice and helpful, he offered us leaflets and information about what to do in Carlow for the two days we spent there. The hotel is cute and the amenities in the room were better than we had anticipated. However, the breakfast was not the best I have had. And I would not recommend it (at least the Egg benedict).

I first visited Avlon House quite a few years ago. I found it to be without doubt the best B&B in Ireland Tom deals with front of house and nothing is too much trouble for him, and his partner works tirelessly behind the scenes to make it an all round level of luxury that you will only find in a top class hotel.

The rooms are sparkly clean and every day when you come home it is back to its original immaculate condition. The breakfasts are hearty enough to last you far past lunchtime. You can name your exact breakfast time which is helpful if you are on a schedule The host, Tom was very knowledgeable and helpful about local attractions and restaurants. The rooms are also very quiet; you aren't even aware there are others in the house. The living rooms are very cozy , each with a TV and they get shut down every night at 11 so there is no partying or noise to worry about

We had a lovely ensuite room . This accommodation was immaculate, with everything we needed, supplied. Our breakfast was delicious and very generous. It was well positioned, being a short walk to the town centre.

On driving into the grounds of the Avlon we wee were impressed by the immaculate gardens. this carried on when we entered the property and were welcomed by our host. Every thing is very clean and neat. The room was very comfortable and well equipped. Breakfast was superb. Location is handy for town and its eateries.

Myself and my wife stayed here for a wedding in the area and it was a very good price for a very clean and spacious ensuite room.breakfast next morning was a full Irish and a choice of cereals and fresh fruit.

Best B & B in Carlow have stayed many times and always enjoy our stay. Better than the 4 star hotel in town. Breakfast is excellent with great choice. Rooms lovely and bright Highly recommend this B & B

In Ontario Canada, we would call such an establishment a “country inn” as opposed to a B&B. There are 5 guest rooms on the upper floor, and a dining room with 5 tables for 2 set up for breakfast on the main floor (as well as two common lounges). Our bedroom had an ensuite with shower, was spacious, provided lots of closets and drawers to unpack into, and was kept meticulously clean. The beds were nice and firm (but some type of soft mattress “topper” would have made them more comfortable). The building itself is modern, though it is designed and decorated in a traditional style. There were several choices for breakfast, and all were delicious. The host was helpful with information both before and during our stay. The location was on a bus route, and was only a 10 minute walk from either the train station or downtown Carlow which has many pubs - and some (such as Reddy’s and Teach Domain) serve “fine dining” food. The B&B is also a 2 minute walk to a small petro-station shop that sells snacks and wine. You will find the traffic noise typical if you are a city-dweller. We will definitely stay here again on our next trip to Carlow.
