Stayed at the Coldra court for 4 nights while in Newport for work. The hotel is lovely and welcoming, small hiccup when we first arrived as I believe there was a lot of miscommunication between my company and the hotel. However the staff were friendly and helped to resolve the matter as best as they could. As a vegan, there isn't much to offer at the onsite restaurant however the staff were simply incredible. After a long day travelling down from Scotland, I had the most delicious vegan roast beetroot salad. The staff didn't have to go out of their way to provide this but it was hugely appreciated. The room was amazing, beautifully decorated and always clean. Having the use of the fitness suite and swimming point was a real comfort when being so far from home and my own gym. Overall a fab stay and will definitely be back!
We have an annual golf event (Scotland V Ireland) with 24 golfers and play a Ryder Cup format. Year about Scotland Ireland etc but on our 10th year we needed a neutral venue to mark the occasion. So we chose Celtic Manor as it is steeped in Ryder Cup history. Our accommodation was the Coldra Court Hotel recently purchased by Celtic Manor Resort. The hotel is superb, (previously the Hilton which had a poor review ) and every room has been refurbished. The location is 5 mins. from the golf courses and the free shuttle bus is very efficient. The staff are all very well trained and give great service from room service, restaurant, bar and front desk. Our golf was not the best as we were well beaten by our Irish friends but the overall experience was superb and GREAT value for money. PS well dealt directly with the golf team at the hotel to book the event. Will recommend to all!!!
First off, there is no air conditioning. It wasn't horrible but it wasn't ideal, especially in the morning when I had to shower and dry my hair. The window being open on the ground level did not feel safe to me and wasn't effective at cooling the room, especially when we needed to close the heavy drapes at night so people couldn't see in. The included dinner was fine but it took almost two hours as there was a huge lag in time between each of the courses. We were tired and wanted to relax in our room but it took forever! They were serving some tables their appetizers at the same time others were being served their entrees. It was a set menu because we were a tour group so I would venture to guess that the restaurant would probably have provided better service to cash customers. Breakfast was nice.
We stayed in this hotel as we were visiting family nearby, travelling with a toddler and two teenagers. I am also heavily pregnant. We only stayed in the hotel for one night. I have travelled often with work and on holidays to some of the busiest cities in the World. However, this was by far the noisiest, worst night's sleep that I have ever had in a hotel. It is difficult enough to settle a toddler in a new location, and to get a good night's sleep during your third trimester. This was not helped by the fact that at various points throughout the night, hoards of rowdy, drunk men were patrolling the corridors chanting, talking and seemingly trying to make their presence known to every guest staying at the hotel. They woke up my son multiple times throughout the night. The din coming from the drunk people was far worse than anything I have heard. Even the students in my halls of residence when I went to university were more considerate. It felt like we were staying in some kind of US-style Frat House. At 4.30am, I decided that enough was enough, and I went out to try to confront the men. I was surprised to see that despite the noise level, they were now at the other end of the corridor, so I would have had to walk quite a long way to get to them. By this point, my son was crying again, I was too exhausted to go and shout at them. I have given the hotel a two instead of a one because the hotel staff are pleasant, the rooms are clean, and of a decent size. However, as the sole purpose of the visit was to get a night's sleep ahead of driving back to London, I can't give a higher score because of the noise. One to avoid if you are travelling with youngsters, or if you value your sleep. Only go to this hotel if you are in your late teens, and are incredibly excited to have recently discovered alcohol.
We loved spending the night here with our tour. The hotel was very pretty, the room was very large. The only drawbacks were no a/c and the only lighting was from lamps near the bed..nothing overhead which made it difficult to see in our suitcases. There is absolutely nothing nearby the hotel except a busy road. We had been on the tour bus all day and wanted to stretch our legs before dinner.....absolutely nothing nearby!!!
Very nice hotel, reception was very good. Upgraded to one of the refurbished rooms for £20,lovely, 2 big beds, very roomy and comfortable. Great pool and a lovely meal in the Rib. Nice cooked breakfast in the morning. Will visit again. Thanks to the lovely staff.
Our flights in Bristol had been cancelled so decided on a last minute stop here before new flights from Cardiff. Check in process was seamless with the help of Lucas on reception. Breakfast service was good and attentive. Pool, sauna & steam room clean and well presented. All round good stay. Online web chat amazing to order extra's for the room and wake up call was bang on 7:15 as requested. Da iawn all!
It's been a while since we've been here. Booked a late lunch and staff did not rush us. Food was really good, hot and well presented. Good choice even for a vegetarian amongst us. Would recommend this to anyone. Reasonably priced for the venue and service was excellent
We stayed here for 3 nights with dinner on 2 nights. Overall we really enjoyed our stay and made full use of the gym, steam room, sauna and jacuzzi. The hotel is ideally situated close to the M4 but without any traffic noise. Restaurant food was good but menu needs to be a little more varied. Bedroom was good and clean and bathroom excellent. Staff were all very friendly. However, the biggest problem that we encountered was NO wi-if in the bedroom. I run my own business and need to keep in contact whilst away so the only way to do this was to use my iPad in the lobby of the hotel. Not ideal or convenient. I complained every day about this to reception but nothing was done. Apart from that, all very good.
Great location, lovely hotel, well appointed room. Was really please, until the early hours of this morning when the room next-door to me continued to be refurbished! I say continued, as i noticed an unpleasant solvent like odour in the corridor upon arrival. With all the positives in the hotel i really didn't expect a band of tradesmen to start shouting instructions to each other whilst sawing by my door at 7:30 am. I complained upon check out and got a rather hollow "sorry", this shouldn't have happened........
