We stay at the Celtic Manor often and decided to give Coldra Court a go, massive mistake The girl on reception at check in was so miserable and did not smile once to the point of being rude. Luckily someone else came along to check us in who was helpful We dined in the rib which I think is overpriced for the quality of food. I ordered the salmon and it came with two sweet potato wedges and the fillet was tiny and dry. My son for starter had nachos with pulled pork. The nachos arrived minus pulled pork?? We had waited so long for the first course we let it go we then had a lengthy wait for second course and gave up on desert The room was ok a little dated but suitable. The worst part was breakfast what a shambles most of the tables were all dirty so people were eating in the reception area which was freezing. The juice and water containers were empty I asked three times for them to be filled up. The only fruit left was watermelon and there were no pastries. The toaster was clogged up with left over dried toast it was awful! I ended up having beans and bread!!! This was at 8am so I dread to think what it was like later on. I did complain on checkout and was given complimentary parking but this didn’t really make up for such an awful experience We are returning to the area for May bank holiday but will not be staying here again
The hotel is modern , clean and well designed. The rooms were spacious and comfortable all you wanted after a long day playing golf. The spa facility is excellent but small and I would imagine gets very busy during high season. However if I was playing golf at Celtic Manor I would certainly stay there again.
We stayed here during half term. The hotel is owned by the Celtic Manor nearby & they have regular free shuttle buses back & forth. The hotel is lovely, clean, spacious & has recently been renovated (I think some rooms are still waiting to be done). Reception is lovely, with a big open fire in the middle, which is nice to sit around of an evening with a drink. The room was stunning, recently renovated, very large with 2 big double beds. We all had a lovely night sleep. We didn't have any noise at night unlike the Celtic Manor. The bathroom was huge with a massive walk in shower. We had dinner included in our offer, which I must say was stunning. The quality of the food, the service from the staff was excellent. Overall a fantastic evening meal. Breakfast was good too, nice & fresh with plenty of choice. The swimming pool & spa area is nice, we used it twice during our stay. Overall, a fantastic nights stay at a very reasonable price, much cheaper than the Celtic Manor. (Nicer in my opinion as the Celtic Manor is now so big & busy don't expect a nice 'quiet' evening there!! Way to busy & noisy for my liking!) great food, lovely staff, we will definately be back.
Fabulous hotel, my husband had a night out so we booked this hotel, had a meal when we got there, which was lovely. Myself and my son stayed in the room, beds very comfortable and we watched films and drank hot chocolate. Breakfast in the morning was delicious, a good variety of food. Would definitely stay again.
Stayed here for my son's birthday. Nice little box of birthday chocs for him on arrival. Room very spacious and comfortable . We had a table booked at The Rib restaurant at 7pm and decided to have a drink in the large reception / bar area which had a lovely warm , cosy log fire ( not real ) in the centre. The restaurant is very nicely laid out and it has a large number of friendly , professional waiting staff to make sure everything is ok. we were all very happy with our meals / desserts and found everything very tasty and nicely presented. My only criticism on dinner was that my steak just came with chips and a tiny bit of rocket! I think a tomato , mushroom or onion ring is a must with steak in my opinion? Breakfast the next morning was again good with a varied choice of cereals , juices , continental options as well as hot breakfast buffet , the only issue i seen here was that there was only one chef standing behind the hot buffet food and there were moments of having to wait when certain items run out e.g fried eggs etc.. but to be fair the female chef did her best to get more back out , maybe she could have done with a second pair of hands though. All in all an enjoyable stay and would return.
Lovely room, good air conditioning very comfortable, spa changing area could do with updating, pool was lovely very family oriented, think they should have a dress code for pool as well as the restaurants though! Food was lovely would recommend and return!
In a nutshell...great bed, good bedroom, efficient air conditioning, rip off hidden car parking fee of a five pounds per night for residents. Good quality breakfast. Please be mindful that although it's run by the Celtic Manor, it is not on the Manor's grounds (which are really grand). You do get a good selection of teas and coffee provided in your room but no biscuits. If you are looking to stay somewhere grand then book at the Celtic Manor and not at the Coldra Court (upmarket Travel inn basically). Great service in the restaurant. Clean, tidy and modern. Hope this helps you!
Stayed here for 1 night, arrived very early but that wasn't a problem & they had a room ready for me, staff very polite & knowledgeable. Room was very big & very clean even had working air con, bathroom was quite big with a large walk in shower (no bath), bed was big & very comfy, there was also a separate couch, room had a large tv with a good choice of freeview channels, room had usual tea & coffee but no biscuits (nearly lost a star for that), Wi-Fi was very good, I streamed a full football match & didn't lose signal once. I used the gym (well equipped with up to date machines), pool, Jacuzzi & sauna, pool was larger than I expected & it was all very clean & not too busy, The breakfast was ok, hot food selection could have been better but I'm not too bothered about that, one thing worth noting is that parking is chargeable about £5 per night. I didn't ask for a morning call but the whole hotel got one as the fire alarm went off at 6am, apparently there was a small kitchen fire, no complaints from me, it was all dealt with very efficiently, its always interesting seeing a hotels full guest list stood in the car park in various states of undress. All in all a good hotel that has modern décor seems well run & is clean. I'm due in this area again soon & will definitely be staying here. Recommended.
Tried this hotel last night as a dinner, bed and breakfast deal. On arrival reception staff were so polite and so friendly, very smartly dressed and happy. Had complimentary upgrade to a refurbished double room which on arrival had 2 massive king size beds, room was spotless only down side was the hair dryer-having to keep your finger on the button continuously while drying very very long hair like mine was a nuisance! Used the spa twice which was stunning. Pool temperature and jacuzzi temperature were lovely, poolside had loungers and towels were available. Reception told us house keeping would bring robes to our room which we never received. Bar was beautiful, relaxing around a lit fire. Hotel throughout was very warm, we were never once cold. The rib smokehouse restaurant was stunning! Food was amazing although we ordered a basket of bread with our meal which never turned up, also ordered a drink for hubby which again never turned up. We were given a bill for our whole meal despite informing the waiter at the beginning of the meal that we were on a dinner inclusive package, this was easily sorted out though and staff were friendly and attentive. Food was divine, the peanut butter parfait dessert was to die for!! All in all a fabulous stay and we are already planning on returning for a family stay.
Firstly I would like to say all the staff BAR ONE were excellent and accommodating, apart from that very disappointed. I was offered an upgrade to a refurbished room-for the cost of £20.00 per night, not worth it, they then take £50.00from your card “for extras”!, never had that before, unacceptable, and to top that they demand £5.00 per night for parking your car to pay for their facilities, totally unacceptable do Tesco or ASDA charge car park fees to use their facilities The issue was breakfast on the second morning, Very few ingredients compared with other hotels I’ve stayed at (which is a lot) but it was utter chaos, the buffet queue was all the way down the restaurant and around the corner, because they had run out of some ingredients, ONE chap was behind the counter trying to cook several ingredients at one go, 6-8 eggs were made and after 5 or so minutes and were thrown into the server partly cooked, at this stage as we had waited 10 mins or more my wife gave up! and returned to the table, 10 mins later I joined her, she thought she would try the continental selection, after pushing through the queue blocking the display there was very little left to choose from, as for getting to the toaster...... forget it that queue was jostling with the queue for the buffet..... in the meantime waiters were carrying used crockery trays through the queues !!! I’ve never seen the like of it before talk about a chaotic bun fight!! As for the solitary chap behind the counter, well done for doing your very best, but the management are sadly lacking in providing you with proper assistance and not backing you up!! My wife complained to a lady in a black suit who we assume was management in a polite way and was told “that’s the way it is, we can talk about it outside!” and then walked off My wife is writing to head office regarding this for an explanation as she is unsure what was meant by that remark so this won’t be the end of the matter, she is deeply upset I spent over £300.00 for 2 nights, I did not or should not expect this treatment for an establishment of this sort, we have stayed at the Holiday Inn just across the roundabout before on many occasions previously when we visit Newport and will go back there and recommend others do the same, see their reviews on TA As for the management, if you read this review I would be grateful if you get in touch soonest
