I stayed here around 5 different times in the past 3 years as they are located close to our plant. It is always nice to stay there as staff is very friendly, rooms are very clean, comfortable beds and overall great accommodations. I love the breakfast options there too. The hotel is in a walking distance from few restaurants and cafes.
Great place to stay. Room was comfortable and spacious. Breakfast was delicious. Pet rooms were so conveniently located for easy walks. Located in convenient location for stores, fuel, freeway access. Yet quiet. Nice covered access for checking in.
I had to visit this area for a funeral..At the time I stayed there, SIU-Cdale had Parent weekend going on, so I paid way more for a room here than I would have wanted to. Considering Marion is a very undesirable place to visit..But the staff was very accommodating to our family, and I am very grateful for their attentive service.
Great hotel. Prices are fair, rooms are great, and staff is top notch. The receptionist were super friendly and professional. Even got a call to confirm the room was in good order. The fitness room is great and there is a nice outdoor patio type area. I’d give this place 6 stars if I could and will stay here next time I am in the area.
Had a problem at our home and had to stay in a nearby hotel. Have stayed at this hotel a couple of years ago and everything is still great. Female on desk was very good, room was very clean and breakfast the next morning was very good!
We stop in Marion when we travel and the hotel was great. Close to restaurants and comfortable. Had nice rollout table for the PC so you could easily catch up on news on the TV. Room was comfortable for us.
Disclaimer: I didn't stay at this hotel, but I stopped off here and had such a great interaction that I felt the need to write a review. I was driving 12 hours (from north of Chicago to Chattanooga, Tenn.) this weekend by myself with my two dogs. I've made this drive before, and it's difficult in warm weather due to the lack of places to stop off and use the restroom where dogs are allowed in, too. Because dogs are not allowed in rest stops, when the weather is warm I have to find PetSmart locations along my route so that I can take my dogs in with me. On Saturday, despite my best planning, I found myself along a stretch of I-57 with no PetSmarts for at least an hour an a half, and I had to pee—badly. I have been kicked out of interstate rest stops before for attempting to bring my (well-behaved, clean) dog inside with me (the last time I was threatened that the cops would be called), but I knew I wouldn't make it an hour and a half. I saw a sign for a Holiday Inn Express and remembered that they are pet-friendly, and figured I'd take a chance that someone would take pity on me and let me use their restroom and bring my dogs inside with me, since it was 90 degrees outside and certainly not safe to leave them in the car even for a few minutes. (And my car does not have an option to keep it running while the key is out.) When I walked up to the desk and explained my plight, the receptionist completely understood—and was horrified that rest stops forbid dogs from coming inside with travelers, especially when someone is traveling alone in hot weather. She invited me to use their restroom and to take my dogs back with me, and reiterated that Holiday Inn Express welcomes pets and is very dog-friendly. It was only a couple-minute stop, but I was so grateful for a friendly interaction and a clean, safe place to use the restroom before heading back on our way. Holiday Inn Express is usually my go-to hotel chain, and I feel even better now about continuing to stay with them. (FWIW, the lobby and bathroom of this hotel were impeccably clean and modern. If I'm ever in the area and need a place to stay, I'll definitely book here.)
The hotel was fine, obviously you don't expect much and the hotel was a newer lower priced hotel in the middle of no where. At check in they claimed that we booked two rooms rather than one. We explained that we did not and had no idea how that happened. They were adamant that we did book both rooms, so we asked to cancel one room and they refused to allow that. So we were charged for two rooms one of which we didn't book and didn't want. After calling Holiday Inn Express/IHG Customer service we were told any refund would be at the discretion of the local hotel management. We were told they refused a refund because we signed for and took both rooms, even though we absolutely did not want a second room and did not take or use a second room. Fine physical structure, horrible mananagement. Might be ok for $100 a night, not for $200. Also enfuriating that they are so cheap and willing to lie about something so minor. Horrible reflection on the brand. If you happen to be in the middle of no where, stay somewhere else or risk paying double.
We have not stayed at a Holiday Inn in a long time. If our experience at this hotel, is a good representation of the brand, we'll be staying at more Holiday Inns in the future. We were visiting friends in Carbondale and chose this hotel because it is dog-friendly. Check-in was very efficient, and our room was clean, modern, and comfortable. We loved the arrangement of our king bedroom suite. There was plenty of room for two adults and a large (50-lb) dog. I really liked the size of the refrigerator. There was also a microwave. The flat-screen TV was large and in excellent condition with a wide variety of TV channels. The bathroom was up-to-date and clean. My only complaint would be the size of the shampoo/conditioner/soap -- too small. Fine for one person, but not enough for two, and God help you if you are traveling with other family members or friends. I realize the hotel will provide additional toiletries, if you request them, but you generally figure out you need more when you're in the shower -- not a convenient time to request more. Other hotels are adopting this same practice -- no doubt to control costs -- but I hate it. We did not try the free breakfast, so I am not able to comment on it. There are plenty of restaurant choices in the area.
