Sweet Ocean View Guesthouse4.0 out of 5.0

The Sweetest Guest Houses have an unusual set-up with a series of guest houses spread around residential streets - most of them on narrow, steep hills and not that close together! There is a lack of organisation as there is no real central reception and lots of the staff/managers work between guest houses. I had heard that they have a habit of making guests change rooms/guest houses so I did everything I could to try to prevent this - it didn't work! I was staying for 7 days so I kept asking staff if I could stay in the same room - they kept saying they didn't know and would get back to me! After two nights at the Sweet Olive, I was told I had to move to Sweet Ocean View. No reason was given. I was expected to make my own way between the two guest houses with my luggage - until I pointed out I didn't know where I was going. I was eventually taken there in the tuk tuk that staff use to travel between guest houses. I had finished one group tour and was starting another so was looking forward to relaxing - moving guest houses was an unnecessary inconvenience. I can't fault the rooms and guest houses themselves - these are hidden gems in Cape Town. They are a home away from home. They are clean, safe and the breakfast is plentiful. The guest houses are often used for large groups at the start/finish of large tours, but I'd say they were better-suited for couples or families
A very convenient, location which suits my trips to Cape Town. I will highly recommend the guest house. I'm very glad for this opportunity. Outstanding service and friendly staff adding to the whole pleasant experience. Thank you.
This place had the best view, best breakfast, nicest staff, most comfortable bed, and best location in Cape Town. After traveling around South Africa for two weeks, I finally found a place to chill in.
We stayed here for 4 nights. Very luxury room with view over the ocean! Memory, Marai and Mona Lisa thank you very much for your kindness and hospitality! Also the breakfasts were great! In mai we stayed 4 nights in Sweet Orange also in Cape Town. The ladies were there also very kind, especially Moreblessing who told her story. The breakfasts with the special of the day were great. Big hug from us! John and Silvia Smit.
The only place I stay at in Cape Town for 6 years running. Good value for money and loyal staff with the likes of Memory. Peaceful part of Seapoint yet very close to amenities. Breakfast options were also spot on.
We were lucky to get three rooms on very short notice. Price was right and it is certified 4 star. The room I stayed in was across the road in one of a few "Victorian" cottages, each of which has 2 ensuite rooms fit for two couples or a small family. The first cottage had a terrible smell coming from trap door in the floor, that management was aware of. Not sure why I was then taken there. The interior is very colorful and eclectic. In my view it has loads of potential
Our welcome to the property was great and the staff are super friendly. We had two rooms upstairs in the main building and had a little difficulty late in the evenings when other guests were making a lot of noise at the lounge directly outside our rooms. With no staff being available at the time (and the fact that we likely had to sit and share a breakfast table with the same people the following morning) we felt that we could not ask them to keep the noise down. Although hubby and I usually enjoy the atmosphere at hostels, we were travelling with our parents in this instance and had specifically chosen this guest house for a different experience. Unfortunately, the close proximity of all communal facilities to the rooms and the fact that all guests from the surrounding properties also make use of these facilities gave it a definite hostel vibe. Breakfast was a little haphazard in that we were served with yoghurt and cold meats and then left to sit for a while before any accompaniments were added to our table. Although we would usually make breakfast quite a speedy event, this was definitely not possible here. We had a little trouble finding parking on the street and felt very guilty that our early departure likely woke everyone in the building up as we could not pack up the car the night before due to safety concerns over our belongings - and the information given by the staff that guest houses in the area were being targeted for vehicle robberies. I was very pleased that the property was dog friendly and the nearby Sea Point promenade was PERFECT for walking the pups and letting them run free a little further on towards Green Point. The general cleanliness of the property was also very good (although our room at the top of the stairs had a leaky sink and a noticeable bad odour which seemed to stem from the bathroom.) We even told the team that it was not necessary to clean our room and were told that this was their job and they were happy to do it to make our stay more comfortable :)
our room was well decorated and spacious. Staff very welcoming, a glass of fruit juice offered on arrival went down well. Breakfast was delicious with anything you could possibly want on the table. Mint and lemon water and home made cookies on the dining table if one needs a small refreshment. Wifi availability good, tv in the room. Honesty bar available as well as tea and coffee available 24/7. I do find the price a bit high but considering it was cycle tour ( which ended up being cancelled) weekend, I found Sweet Ocean View to be the ideal place to stay as it is close enough the city and Seapoint. Great place. Would stay here again.
Staff happy to receive us in the middle of the night. Discovered in the morning that we had the cottage to ourselves with facilities of which we were unaware. We found the large breakfast table shared by all an awkward arrangement as there was one of everything on the table, and you had to get up to fetch milk, jam, salt etc each time you needed something.
Sweet Ocean offers several guesthouses - I was across the street from the main building in a very nice guesthouse and the accommodations were incredibly spacious - a kitchen, living room, sitting area, and a lovely area outside in the back (these areas are shared, but we never saw the people in the other room). Our room had a private bathroom, although you had to go to the hallway outside of the bedroom to get to it. The breakfast was lovely, and the hospitality from Memory 1 and 2 was great. But don't expect an ocean view from the room, even if it says that on your reservation. Great location, especially if you want to do a hop on-hop off bus ride. Staying at a guest house is much nicer than staying at a hotel.
