Very nice hotel with huge comfortable rooms and well equipped bathrooms with very comfortable beds. Highly recommended, good breakfast choices included in our room rate booked through Agoda. Lovely front desk

Our first time at the hippo, 10 great days. We would stay at the hippo again. We had in the past stayed at the Portia Breakwater on the V&A waterfront, also excellent. WE found the area around the Hippo to be great, many nice bars, restaurants and shops within a few blocks. Our room was clean and in good condition with everything one needs for an extended stay, kitchenette coffee fridge etc... . The Hippo vouchers out their breakfast service to a vary nice selection of places within a block or less, one on the ground floor of the hotel. The hippo is also a good value, the savings over the places at the V&A will buy a lot in Cape Town. The area always felt safe and was well patrolled by security and ready cabs.

My friend and I stayed at this boutique hotel for a night only but it still managed to make an impression on us. We arrived in Cape Town quite early and the hotel was nice enough to let us check in which was great. The hotel is situated close to Kloof street which is an amazing street to hang out at as it is filled with lots clothing shops and beautiful cozy restaurants. There are also two restaurants at the hotel with a beautiful vibe. The hotel is also quite central and one can get an uber very quickly to other areas within Cape Town. We really loved our stay here and will hopefully be back to stay for a longer period

Perfectly located in Cape Town, nice bars and restaurants around. Hotel room is a bit run down and could use an update. Staff is very friendly and helpful. The music of the bar below was heard in our room (at the front of the hotel) until 11pm. Breakfast is not served in the hotel but in a lovely bakery named Knead nearby. Private car parking is a plus.

Great location, lots to do around Kloof Street. Staff were really friendly and helpful. Good hotel to explore Cape Town from. They have a secure car park at the back, takes about 30 mins from the airport to get there (we had very little traffic).

We decided to spend an additional two days in Cape Town and booked this hotel at the last minute. Very pleased we did as it is in a great location in walking distance to Long Street and all the restaurants, cafes and some music venues. Nice, safe feeling and funky area. Friendly staff, very large, clean, well-appointed and comfortable rooms. No breakfast served but Knead Cafe on the corner of the street took care of that. Free off street parking. Unfortunately we had booked a hotel in Green Point for our last 4 nights in Cape Town and that was nowhere near as much fun. Would have liked to stay the full six nights at Hippo.

Stayed here as part of group of 6 adults (family) for 2 nights. The hotel was booked as part of a package created by Flight Centre so i’m not sure what I actually paid for the 2 nights. We arranged for an airport transfer via the hotel. it worked in around £27 total (for 4 adults). The driver was waiting at arrivals and it was a short walk to the parking space. Ideal and I doubt you will get it cheaper by cab. Our room was clean and spacious although I did see other rooms which other members of my group were staying in and they appeared a bit dated and used. I think we had the best room. There was a microwave/fridge/kettle etc in the room. If you pay for breakfast you are issued with vouchers by the reception staff. They can be redeemed in one of 3 places. We ate in the bakery option on both mornings. Food was great. The hotel is situated about a 10min drive from the V&A waterfront and about a 10min walk from the closest Hop On Hop Off bus which will take you to table mountain etc. Uber is useful in Cape Town. I used it to get to the V&A waterfront on two occasions from the hotel. A trip is around £3. Wi-fi is generally ok in the hotel

Great location with many bars and restaurants nearby. Very nice 2 floor rooms. Full room bar. Small kitchen. Pillows could be a bit softer. Modern boutique style ( of course). Good service. Overall a nice experience.

This is a really good place, and really good value for money. We had room F24 on the 4th floor which had spectacular views of Table Mountain, Signal Hill, and the Lions Head. It's a large room on two levels with kitchenette facilities if you want them. On the upper level the large double bed was very comfortable, but the bath/shower is open plan next to the bed, and the toilet is separated by a small glass door. Suffice to say, you will need to know your partner very well. However, not a problem. We had requested an early check-in due to our flight arrivals, and good to their word we had an early check-in at around midday. There were a few minor issues with no phone directory in the room, I had to return to reception for the wi-fi code. Also getting the hang of the light switches took a while. In old speak this is quite a funky place, with the room accessories/decor including old record turntables, old amplifiers and tape to tape machines. Overall the place is a little worn at the edges and could do with some sprucing up. So not quite 'hooray' (excellent), but a place that is in a really good location for pretty much everything, and great value.

The hotel is in a great location just off Kloof Street which has a heap of bars and restaurants and it's in a very safe area. The rooms are modern and funky, the staff great and I would definitely stay here again!
