Kemmeriboden Bad Swiss Quality Hotel3.5 out of 5.0

IMHO everything about this hotel is worth a 5-star rating; infrastructure, service, friendliness, and food. Lots of original artistic touches make it an entertaining experience. The owners are unpretentious and friendly, and obviously enjoy talking with their guests. One thing that struck me is that they have an unusually wide range of customers; backpackers, hikers, bicycle tourists, families, couples, and more than a few rich folk. The price is not cheap, but for Switzerland it's not excessive, at least for most of the rooms. It's far from the madding crowd and typical tourist traps, so most international visitors probably never even hear of it, much less contemplate a visit. This is a pity because it is a wonderful slice of Swiss charm and hospitality. My only "complaint" is that the WLAN registration is unnecessarily complicated.
A bit pricey, but a perfect service quality. Impressive restaurant and top quality of meal and service (be hungry, yeah!). A wine card containig a lot of treasures! Extremely friendly staff. In short words: something that one does not find often in Switzerland. Negative: SPA-site to small
Kemmeriboden Bad Landgasthof is nestled far away from civilization in a valley somewhere between Lucerne and Berne. We stayed here to celebrate my darling's 50th birthday and we had an amazing experience from A to Z! Staff at the reception and the restaurant are extremely friendly and make you feel at home immediately! It really feels like spending a good time at a friend's place! We had booked the 1878 room, a truly beautiful room, prt of the walls are built with hay, smelling nicely and there is a lot of history within these walls! We slept like angels, that's for sure! It was so calm, all you could hear was the river running calmly through the valley. We had a delicious dinner at the restaurant, the food that is served is fantastic, the portions are big, unfortunately so big, there was no space left for the typical Meringue dessert! And the wine card has lots of treasures at really normal prices, something that one does not find very often anymore in Switzerland! The next morning we enjoyed a typical Swiss Buffet Breakfast, there's everythng one can wish for and start a new day very well! We will be back for sure!
Although a bit pricey, we really enjoyed a little bit of indulgence at this hotel before continuing with our hiking across the Canton border towards Lucerne. Our room was very spacious and comfortable, and the water quality for drinking and bathing was great. The restaurant was very impressive as well, although the service and presentation was a bit too precious/ over the top for our taste.
We went there for a birthday celebration lunch, having been there before for the celebrated Meringues. The surroundings are wonderful. Amazing to find a hotel/restaurant of such quality at the end of a valley. The meal, the service were great. Faultless would be one way of explaining it. Everyone at the table were rearing of the quality of their choice, and the desert, their famous meringues and cream...... well you need to go there and try them. Be hungry and take the double meringue and their walk home.
I was sure that at the very end of nowhere in Kemmelibodenbad, there might be a few old farts like us or we’d be alone in the haunted hôtel, but the parking lot was full, the hôtel was full (who else comes with two trains and a bus ?) Ten minutes out of Berne and the scenery was all white, hills and farmhouses coated and miraculous snow had fallen and was falling and would continue to fall throughout our stay. I get so excited seeing those snowflakes floating in the air. And Georges did it again : found the perfect paradise for our Saintly rabbi valentine. We got off the bus and there was this hundreds of years old hôtel, sixth generation of the same family managing it. We were surrounded by young people – such a surprise. We didn’t opt for the night in an igloo like them but for a spacious cozy room light and airy all white outside, excellent mattress and a whole selection of pillows. We went down for our welcome drink and then took a walk in the winter wonderland. I cried from the beauty of it all. Then we had the Valentine dinner which was against all my principles but yum ! Most of the couples had their dinner in the igloo too. Georges was sad because for the first time in his life he didn’t finish a fondu but he rightly suspected that I wasn’t cooperating, after the first forkfuls, not having eaten cheese in years, I really slowed down. Aside from the cheese in Emmanthal, the specialty is huge meringues which are only air after all. We talked to a lot of lovely people and did the hotspot, a jacuzzi in the snow and the sauna and the cheesy breakfast, but oh the bed and waking up with all the windows looking out on snow. We would have stayed another night but the restaurant is closed on Monday. Effie said, well why couldn’t you go to another restaurant ? Because there is no other ! Well, what do the other people do ? They have cars !
We stayed only one night in this traditional swiss country inn. Although the whole location with its surroundings is very nice and the staff is very friendly we have to say that the room rate is too expensive for what you get. This is still a 3star hotel and in my opinion not worth to pay almost 300 chf just for one night! Our room was poorly soundproofed and the tv channels were not working without interruptions. Okay the restaurant is excellent but also very expensive and on the other hand the breakfast is average and similar to other good 3star hotels.
We were there because we got a gift: a night in an igloo! It was a very nice experience! The place is charming too, although a little bit in the middle of nowhere. We could wander some time in the snow nearby.
We spent a night there with some friends and had the igloo fondue. It was great, not too cold inside the igloo (but make sure you dress warm). The igloo white wine was excellent and so was the service. The building has been lovingly renovated and the atmosphere is charming and friendly. Definitely worth a repeat
Just spent a seminar there and was impressed by their Meränggä Portions (sweet CH desert). Food was excellent, staff was friendly and helpful and I slept well at night. Spent some time in the bar and I really can recommend Nina's Mojitos. :)
