We recently stayed six nights at the Duke William in Ickham and had the most delightful time. Darrell, Hayley and Kayleigh and all of their colleagues treated us so well we really didn't want to leave. Food was excellent room was lovely but most of all the staff were fantastic. Excellent value for money too!
We chose this wonderful village pub in the sleepy, attractive village of Ickham just outside Canterbury as a base for visiting the Kent villages and coastal towns... and it was perfect! The staff could not have been more charming and helpful and we found the decor in the rambling dining rooms and bedrooms to be very much to our taste. We chose the Stein room which has a large balcony and lovely view looking out over the fields. The full English breakfast set me up for the day and we throughly recommend the dining experience... See separate review of the restaurant.
My husband and I stopped off on Sunday for a late lunch . It was after 3 o’clock . We were greeted by a helpful friendly lady . Our food was pleasant and the atmosphere was very welcoming . We will definitely be returning .
Really friendly welcome as soon as we walked in. The food was delicious and the girls who served us were knowledgeable and able to recommend things from the menu ~ and we didn't get called "guys" once, like you do in so many places these days. We will be back!
The staff are very helpfull the food is hot well cooked and plenty of it.Have been there many times with different people and they have all been very pleased with the food and atmosphere and intend going back.
We had our Wedding here at the Duke and the day was fantastic. Couldn't have asked for more. The next day was a different story. The room was a complete waste of money, £110 to be kept awake until 3am on our wedding night by other drunk guests and the the staff the next day were so rude. They ignored us and were sat talking about druggy boyfriends whilst eating their cooked breakfasts. We ended up having to leave our key on the bar and leave without even a goodbye. Although the manager called us the next day when this was raised and said sorry, when writing to the Duke to bring this up and raise it as a complaint they have 3 weeks later still ignored us. Really disapointing and has left a bitter taste for this venue which now appear very money orientated as since paying for our wedding it's been a completely different attitude.
Went for my birthday today, 9th March. What a lovely relaxed atmosphere, roaring log fire, comfy dining. Staff were very attentive, especially the man (sorry didn’t get his name). The food is delicious and a good selection of choices available. Would definitely return.
We visited in Feb for a Birthday Sunday lunch and were not disappointed. On entering the pub we were greeted by friendly bar staff and seated at our table that had been decorated to accommodate our Birthday boy. The waitress, Hayley, was so lovely so accommodating and friendly, we all ate far too much as the food was delicious. We had the Haggis Scotch egg, Camembert and ox Tongue Croquettes to start followed by the Roast Sirloin, which was cooked to perfection and so tender. Will definitely be returning and would highly recommend this amazing find.
Staff are always really friendly. Atmosphere is nice, here with good seating. Food is just amazing, every time we eat here! We visited several times last year and are looking forward to coming back. It’s one of our favourite Sunday roasts around the villages of Canterbury.
January 16th .Met some friends at this pub which looks nothing from the outside but belies a tardis interior once you get inside. Parking is on the street which is can be a problem to negotiate a park place. Once inside it is comfortable and the ambience very welcoming. The food absolutely delicious and can't wait to go back again. Strongly recommended although they didn't have Bacardi rum so had to make do with Prosecco. Life can be tough.
