It was my husband and I’s first time to Isla, and we will be returning again and again. The hotel’s location was amazing to sleep at, almost intoxicating with the rolling waves. It is located on the rocky side of the island which means there isn’t a place to swim near by. That being said, I enjoyed being away from the more touristy end of the island and felt sleeping so close to the lulling waves of the ocean, was worth it. The hotel is located a bit far from downtown, making it difficult to go into down without some sort of transportation. We ended up renting a golf cart for half of our trip, and a moped for the rest. Taxis are really easy to get, as well, to go to the downtown area. The staff were more than curtious and helpful, but there was a huge language barrier because most of the staff does not speak any English, which we solved by downloaded a translation app. If you are looking for a hotel that is attentive to all of your needs, this is not the place for you. This hotel is for the more adventurous traveler who wants to seek out and fulfill their own needs, which was why my husband and I loved this place and will definitely be back.

Hotel staff were very friendly and tried to be as accommodating as possible. Hotel itself was a bit run down and far less attractive than in the pictures. Faucets or leaky, air-conditioning was only so-so, and the furnishings were old and on the shabby side. I did not have a great deal of confidence that the lock on my door was much protection against a potential break in. I would recommend this hotel, but definitely with the caveat that you are not necessarily going to get what you see in the pictures. And you are pretty much on your own after 5 o’clock when the front desk closes, except for the reastaurant staff. So God help you if you lose your key. This is a good place to go if you pretty much already know what you were going to do on the island, and your hotel is not a focal point. Perfect if you are looking for solitude and quiet, with not a lot of hustle and bustle around you. If you are looking for more of a resort and the experience of being pampered, go elsewhere.

The staff was wonderful. Our room was nice and clean. There is a deck and pool right off the ocean. We will defiantly come back next year!

Casa Ixchel is a lovely place to stay! It's beautiful! The only reason I didn't give all 5 ratings is because I wish the bathroom had a door instead of a curtain, and the only coffee was instant and not very good. But those are really no big deal, I would definitely stay there again!

was very tight quarters. small refrigerator and only a hot plate to cook with. Not much cookware, could really have used a knife to cut fruit, etc. Needs some upkeep, but overall, ok. Really missed great quality internet. Very spotty

Wonderful place. No beach, but no problem. Nice size room. Excellent wifi. Always hot water. A/C and fan. Lovely views. Superb restaurant. Some of the best food on the island. Very helpful supportive office staff. Very clean. Free yoga classes. Wonderful big king size bed. I would go back here in a minute.

Stayed in the peace room. Quiet and private. Easy to find a cab to anywhere and close to bodegas. Ac didn't work that well but cooled off at night. There were large gaps in the door frame that let in heat and noise but not horrible. Can't flush toilet paper so you have to put it in the garbage which was a little gross. Restaurant was above average and staff was attentive and friendly. Rocky beaches so bring water shoes or sandals. Nice pool.

It was perfect! The hotel was cozy and has a great view. The food excellent and the staff very friendly was 15 min walking distance to downtown

Great hotel in a quieter area of the island but quick/easy taxi into the main areas. Very friendly staff and a great value - we would come back

My husband and I visited Casa Ixchel last February and really enjoyed it. Our room was one of the smaller ones, but it was comfortable and had all we needed, including a small fridge and enough closet/dresser space for clothes. One quibble is that the bathroom is separated from the bedroom by a curtain, so there is not much privacy. However, I've seen this other places in Mexico, and it isn't a deal-breaker, since the pool area is just a few feet from the room so one person can be outside enjoying the view while the other gets ready. The location is ideal -- a 15 minute walk to Town, but easy to get there, but quiet and out of the way. We had a golf cart (arranged upon arrival at the front desk), and had tons of fun zipping around the island. We had some delicious tacos and guacamole at the hotel, and the margaritas were excellent on the roof-top deck. The beach in front of the hotel is rocky and not swimmable (at least for me!), but you are just minutes from either Playa Norte or quieter sand beaches on other side. We loved Isla and plan to return. We will definitely consider Casa Ixchel for another trip. While the pool/sea view rooms are probably more luxurious than what we had, we wouldn't need to upgrade as we spent very little time in the room.

Food was great and view was nice! Missed a coffee maker and tv. Wifi was intermittent, overall fine for the price

At first I was shocked to see that we didn't have TV or phone in our room but since it was our honeymoon, we figured it was ok. We tried the best we could to have a nice time but a few things were wrong: Staff didn't let us use the front desk phone to confirm any pre-booked information; there was no privacy inside the room: bathroom and room in same space; the honeymoon suite was empty when we got there and they didn't let us stay in it because it was reserved for the owner's friends. When these friends came on the day we left, they told my husband that the owner doesn't like foreigners and only book this suite for his friends. What was most annoying was that we booked this with the specific understanding that it was adult only (nothing wrong with kids, we have our own but didn't want them or any others on our honeymoon); well, there were many kids that broke our intimacy. Overall, although the cleaning staff was great, the island in itself beautiful, I wouldn't return to that specific hotel. Thanks for the opportunity to provide my honest opinion.

Rooms were very clean and breezy, although bed was so big it took up most of the room! Nice deck with pool where we enjoyed breakfast every morning looking out over the ocean with warm breezes. Staff was friendly and helpful. Not where you want to stay if you want to enjoy night life - go to Cancun for that!

We had such a wonderful stay at Casa Ixchel. The staff was wonderful and we had very personal service. We arrived almost 9 hours later than anticipated and I was worried as to how we would check in since it was so late, but they had it all figured out for us and we were able to quickly drop our bags and get help to find a restaurant that was still open for dinner. The rooms are somewhat basic as there is no phone, tv or alarm clock, but we did not miss those things. They have fee wifi in the room which always worked and the front desk staff made dinner reservations for us which is all we would have needed a phone for. The room we stayed in had a coffee maker, with coffee supplies refilled everyday, a pitcher of filter water everyday as well as a fridge and microwave which was a good plus. The rooms were cleaned everyday and we were given clean beach towels and shower towels as much as we needed them. The walls were very thick and I rarely heard anything except for the sound of the waves. I would definitely recommend renting a golf cart for your stay as it is a great view at the hotel, but you are a bit of a walk from town and different swimming beaches. The cabs are cheap and easy to get, but we enjoyed being able to move around as we pleased. It rained most of our trip, but we still loved the island. We had amazing food even at the Casa Ixchel restaurant and met wonderful people. We usually go to all inclusive resorts, but were so glad we did not on this trip as the island is so fun to explore and there are so many great restaurants and bars. Overall the hotel had pretty much everything we needed and we had a very relaxing stay. We hope to return soon!

Hotel staff welcomed us with a personal sign on the office door and our room door since we were in late! All of the staff, including the staff @ Da Luisa (rooftop bar/restaurant) was always friendly & welcoming!! The room, Contemplation, was simple but all that we needed. Clean & practical! The only thing negative I have to say is the bed was a little on the hard side but not unbearable....still slept through the night! Can't wait to visit again and try another one of the rooms!

This was an ok hotel. For the price they could of at least served breakfast. Other than that it is in a quiet location. It's not right in town but it is in walking distance. Has a restaurant right above hotel. The rooms were clean and nice. noting too fancy. They have mini kitchenettes with coffee makers so you can enjoy a cup of Jo on the deck overlooking the ocean. Nice and mellow.

We just returned from a wonderful 5 night stay at Casa Ixchel Isla Mujeres. We were celebrating our 39th wedding anniversary. The resort is small but has everything you need to relax. The rooms are all fantastic (we looked at them all). We chose our room since it was oceanfront but almost all rooms have ocean view and if not it is just a very short walk to there. We rent a golf cart & toured the island but taxis are cheap to town at $3. The hotel restaurant is very good as it the bar. We also ate in town several times.

Do yourself a favor and avoid downtown area hotels, casa ixchel feels a little more off the beaten path, which is why you're going to isla mujeres and not cancun in the first place, right? [...] is excellent, the restaurant staff warm and cheerful. The chef cooks the octopus perfectly tender, the huevos mutelenos are a great way to start the day while listening to the waves wash ashore. the pool is welcomingly cold and serene. It's really everything you need, and nothing you don't. If you get the touristy urge you can satiate it by swinging downtown or heading to garrafon.

We stayed in the Abundance suite. Very comfortable bed, great shower, kitchen and table, living room, and the best view out to patio and pool-very private. Great restaurant and we ate at the hotel many meals. It was also an easy walk to Mango Cafe. A little farther to walk to town but we managed no problem (I'm 60). Very easy to catch a cab anywhere on the island. This is our fourth visit to Isla Mujeres but not our last!

watching waves crash against rocks was beautiful. food fantastic
