Pros: - Near to shopping center and grocery store - Convenient free parking - Close to bus Cons: - Aircraft noise from Cairns airport. Planes fly directly over the apartments at 300+ meters. - Apartments near pool are noisy. - WiFi is spotty and unreliable. - The apartments are a bit older and could use some refurbishing. - Keep in mind units are self-catering, so there’s no daily cleaning or servicing. Stayed here 6 days and was not impressed. Would have left earlier but my reservation was prepaid.
Fairly new hotel. No sign of wear yet. Close to a supermarket. Not so close to the wharf.
The bed was comfortable, but we were disappointed there was no couch or chairs besides desk chairs and most importantly the wifi was really bad. Otherwise it was a good hotel for the price.
Arrived after hours put on 3rd floor with heavy bags (5 week trip). I am almost 70 and have bad knees so made it very difficult. Also, their policy of $60 fee if you lock yourself out seems a bit high. Airconditioner condensation made a very large puddle we had to dry up. Due to their policy of strictly holding visitors responsible for any damage, I tried to tell them of several cracks in tile but they just said their staff inspect after each visit. We had four days and they left 4 packs of coffee for 2 people. When I requested additional packs they said they had to charge me $2 for additional packs. The room layout was not good. We felt as if nobody cared about our concerns.
Good location (few minutes by foot to centre, a great commercial centre just round the corner) and good room but wifi not cheap, second roll toilet paper to pay (!) and coffee to staff reply that's what we find was only a welcome pack...

Thank you for taking the time to leave us your review. We are sorry to hear that your experience at Southern Cross Atrium Apartments was not to your liking. Unfortunately, there is not much we can do about the planes flying directly over the whole of Cairns CBD. In saying this, Southern Cross Atrium Apartments is NOT situated under the normal flight paths. In the rare circumstances, when the winds are not suitable for the aircraft, they take an alternative route, which happens to affect us. This is not a regular occurrence and happens mostly around the wet season. We would also like to reiterate that we are a non-serviced holiday apartments, with prices to cater for those who are looking for more budget friendly but comfortable accomodation. Many of our guests have enjoyed the freedom of being able to cook their own meals and the use of our onsite facilities. If a guest requires daily service, we can certainly cater to this, but at an additional cost.
