My 8 year old and I stayed for a blissful and relaxing 12 day holiday over christmas/new year. The place is spotless, all the staff are extremely friendly and helpful and the units are well appointed. Swimming pools are clean and checked/maintained daily for hygiene and are perfect for night swimming in the warmer months. When booking, check you are booking a Deluxe one or two bedroom unit - these are the ones with larger balconies that have wooden privacy shutters. The studios don't have these, and I did meet a couple during our stay who were disappointed that they had difficulty working out which units were which before they booked. A quick phone call or email to the reception staff prior to booking will ensure you get the unit you want - one with wooden shutters and larger balcony overlooking one of the pools. For younger children, the pool closest to the Cafe is the best, as it is better designed in my view for younger children because of depth/space etc. These are serviced apartments, not hotel rooms. Our rooms were serviced once (and very well!) during our 12 day stay, but we knew this at the time we booked. As there are washers and dryers in most rooms, it was not a bother for us to wash our bedding and towels as we required. Extra room services can been done at a charge, but we found we didn't need this at all, and were able to keep the room very neat and tidy ourselves, as everything you need is pretty much provided. Extra tools were available from reception, which would be handy if you have a family doing lots of swimming at a very reasonable charge. As the Cairns Central Shopping Mall is only 100m walk away, it is a very convenient location. We walked to the Esplanade in under 10 minutes several times, and I liked that we were not staying down on the waterfront, but a couple of streets back from it. It was quieter than the waterfront areas. If staying for longer than three days, my suggestion would be to pick up a few things from the supermarket as soon as you arrive like washing powder, dishwasher tablets, extra toilet paper, soap, shampoo, milk, tea/coffee and a good multi purpose cleaner. We did this on the first day and it made our stay so much easier, as the rooms are supplied with enough of these types of items to last you maybe two days, so if staying longer than that you will need these. You can even order these items from Coles online prior to your stay and have them home delivered to your apartment the day you arrive! How good is that! We found that even during the peak of the busy tourist season - Christmas and new year, Southern Cross Atrium Apartments were quiet, with no out of control parties or unreasonable noise. Of course, you will get noise from children playing in the pools etc, but non of this is unreasonable in my view. The Wild Lime Cafe is small, basic, but cooks a lovely breakfast (try the Eggs Benedict or a Tropical Breakfast). The Cafe does NOT stock soy, almond or rice milk, but the lovely ladies in the cafe are happy to make you coffee with your choice of milk if you supply it, and will store it in their fridges for you during your stay. BBQ's were spotless and easy to use. There are a number of online and phone delivery services for food from local cafes and restaurants to be delivered right to your room and information on these is in your room when you arrive. Perfect if you just want to starfish in your room for a couple of days and rest! WIFI worked perfectly, so no issues there, and came free with our room. Stand out staff for us who really went the extra mile to make our stay enjoyable were the amazing Jamen on the front Reception Desk, the Night Duty Manager (I didn't get his name, but he was kind and efficient) and the lovely housekeeping staff. I would rate the Southern Cross Atrium Apartments very highly for convenience and a highly enjoyable stay at a great price. My daughter thoroughly enjoyed herself, and will will be regular visitors from now on. Couldn't recommend it highly enough! Thanks.

For a family of 4 the 2 bedroom deluxe rooms was perfect, Each of the rooms had their own bathroom, Air Conditioning & ceiling fans, Alfresco dining area leading to pool access. Ideally Positioned cross from Cairns Central it is a little way off the Esplanade .

A friend and I stayed here for just under a week and loved it. The apartment was clean, well equipped kitchen and bathroom (hairdryer included). I loved that our apartment had a private balcony with direct access to the pool. Extremely convenient location, right near main shopping center with supermarket and liquor store. Just a 10 minute walk to lagoon and main streets. Will definitely stay here again.

Spent a great long weekend at this place as a base for our reef trips. Apartments close to Cairns Central for supplies, an easy 15-20 minute walk through town from the Reef Fleet Terminal. Accommodation was well appointed and clean, ground floor with private patio and access gate to one of the complex swimming pool and spa. Looking forward to going back, with more time to sit around the pool!!. Also great BBQ facilities etc.

My wife and I have just returned to Melbourne after spending a week in Cairns. We chose to stay at the Southern Cross Atrium Apartments. I did some research prior to booking and liked the reviews. We specifically were looking for accommodation with cooking facilities close to shopping centre. Apartments were clean, comfortable and quite well appointed although not a lot of clothes hanging or drawer space. There are multiple swimming pools and plenty of car parking if you have a vehicle. The complex is gated and secured after 10pm with resident only access. The Cairns Central shopping centre is literally 100mt away. We were located on the 1st floor of one of the carpark wings and had 2 x balconies, one looked out to the carpark and the other towards the pool. The apartments are only serviced once per week so you are responsible for keeping things tidy and taking out your own rubbish etc.. but no problem for us. We arrived late but had no issues with the after hours check in process, there is a caretaker / manager on site. Noise restrictions come into play after 10pm and on our last night there was a loud group who were drinking heavily in one of the BBQ areas - by 10pm they were cleared out and kept quiet. There are no lifts so if you have heavy suitcases I would be booking something on the ground floor. In terms of location it is just on the fringe of the CBD and the Esplanade (Waterfront) and things like the Lagoon & Night Markets are 4 blocks down and 2 blocks over (about 1 - 1.5km). The surrounding area is very quiet except for the occasional train horn during the day which was hardly noticeable. Other feedback says cleaning staff are quite loud in the morning - just a tip about the tropics most locals are up and about and into their normal day very early (to beat the heat) and then the same at night after the sun goes down. The staff were all very friendly and overall we really liked it and will happily stay here again. Only reason we didn't score top marks was drawer space, access to onsite food and proximity to restaurants

This hotel provided a clean and comfortable stay with many amenities and supports and great customer service. The apartment-size units are private and don't get daily cleaning service but had cleaning staff and others there to help you if you needed it. The room had a fridge, microwave, kettle and tv which enhanced your stay. The hotel had a free swimming pool and barbecues to use. Location wise,the hotel is a relatively convenient 10-15 min walk to main attractions in Cairns (the market, outlet shops and the esplanade) and a 15min drive or $20 cab ride to the airport. The front desk is only open from 7am-7pm but an off-hours attendant was always prompt and helpful for late check-in or other needs that arose. I initially thought this would be an issue but had all my needs addressed and so it ended up not being an issue at all. You can book daily tours to the Great Barrier Reef, rainforest or other attractions and reserve and pay at the hotel front desk and the tours will pick you up and drop you off right in front of the hotel. Very convenient. The hotel restaurant had tasty food but was a bit pricey. Plus there were no coffee/tea/juice refills allowed despite the price warranting so. There is no elevator to the units, which means you may need to carry your luggage up 5-10 steps to your room. However, staff offered to help carry your luggage for you so this isn't always an issue. Even with a few manageable limitations, I give this a hotel a 5 because of its outstanding customer service. Beth at the front desk was extremely friendly, professional, and helpful. She answered our questions about what to do in Cairns and surrounding area, gave us recommendations on which tours best met our preferences and budget, and went above and beyond to make our stay more comfortable (e.g detailed instructions, maps, helped us make arrangements or answer questions she could not answer etc.). I give Beth a gold star for customer service! Overall, a very pleasant and enjoyable stay! Highly recommend!

I found this accomodation to be excellent. I did a booking online. It had everything we wanted. Pools spas Bbq close to shops. On arrival the staff were friendly and knowledgeable. We made tour bookings and got great deals. We had a ground floor studio apartment eith pool access. King size bed large bathroom and cooking facilities. While it is close to a railway line we did not hear any trains. Off street parking. In fact pur car didnt move till we left Cairns.. worth a look.

Pros: free wifi, lovely pools, clean, close to shopping centre, good kitchen, nice rooms with a balcony, secure car park Cons: No noise curfew (very loud at nights), no controlled drinking (people with big bottles of vodka around the bbq area up until very late), the apartment doesn't get cleaned once in 6 nights and you have to pay for extra towels, no lifts and it is extremely difficult to carry cases up them (not suitable for anyone with walking difficulties), really loud cleaning staff in the morning, you have to pay a $200 bond on arrival, reception staff are very overworked (on the phone at the same time as checking us in although she was very nice), there is a poolside bar but it only opens 7am-10am therefore it is not a bar.

Nice fully equipped apartments. Nice location near to supermarkets like coles kmart etc. walkable to esplande and even reef fleet terminal if you can walk for 20 mins. Resturants also nearby. Overall nice stay if you want a kitchen

Travelled up from Tassie, via Melbourne. Unfortunately, flight was delayed and Chantelle and I arrived at the Apartment complex late evening. We were expecting a welcoming "checking - in" experience as we were tired. However, main reception was closed, so rang the night phone, quite a few times, some gent answered who I couldn't understand and was slurring his words. Eventually he appeared and Chantelle asked him if he had a nice room for us, he was very crotchety and short-tempered and says "yeh whatever you booked, they are all the same," basically take it or go somewhere else.- in not so many words!!! My bestus- Chantelle was really peeved by his cantankerous and crusty attitude. Certainly not a good first impression!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I then asked him how to get to the room, he pointed at a map and says just over there, again not helpful!!!!!!!!I couldn't get that close to him as when he was explaining he absolutely reeked of cigarettes. We couldn't find the stairs to our room and shouted over to night reception man and said "is this the way?" he just ignored us. It took us a while to find the way but neither myself or Chantelle wanted to speak to this man again. Room was a bit pokey. Location was great, next to shopping centre and short walk to ferry and on to green island. Went in snorkelling and semi sub, you must do this if you are here. Lovely walking in the rainforest and interesting markets at Kuranda.Nice Japanese ice cream sold there. Chantelle and I were out most days so didnt experience other apartment staffs much, so to conclude, rooms and facilities average but customer service worse than bad. Don't forget your sunblock here!! LOL
