The reception is manned for only a few hours per day which is probably fine if no problem arises. In our case the triple radiator in the bathroom did not work and apparently could not be fixed during our stay. The water in the shower was lukewarm so showering was a very uncomfortable experience. The receptionist referred our problem to the manager who wasn't on the premises so we couldn't speak to him/her directly. The reply was that the matter was out of the hotel's control and there was nothing that could be done. We felt that in that case, some compensation should be due to us.We paid £100 per night and we paid on arrival. Unfortunately the receptionist was not empowered to do that as we had already paid! and of course the manager was nowhere to be seen. We were so frustrated by this treatment that we sent a formal complaint to the hotel when we returned home. We had no reply.
We stayed here one night and sadly I was glad about that. We spent 104€ incl. breakfast and if we would have stayed longer and not just one night and only came in to sleep I would’ve complained. The room was tiny, the bathroom resembled an airplane bathroom without a door that provides privacy (happily I was there with my partner anyway). The internet sucked, if it would’ve been “free” (104€€€€) I would’ve complained here to. We both got thrown out of the WiFi every minute and it took for ever to connect back. The view and the location however are perfect for sightseeing!
We had stayed at this hotel before and knew about the quirky bathrooms but the location was so good that we wanted to stay again. On arrival we pressed the bell at the desk to check in and a voice came through and told us, in no uncertain terms, that check in was 3pm (our paperwork clearly showed 2.30) We went over the road for a coffee and returned at 3pm. We were allocated room 16! Never again! first impressions were good. small but ok and a proper sliding bathroom door and a large bathroom. brilliant! our room was the first one in the corridor and every time someone came in or out the door was slammed! waking us several times. The only window was a small window directly onto the courtyard. ok you would think. No. it had a permanent blind that you could not roll up and a window that if you opened for any length of time would let in smoke! as the courtyard was the smoking area so we were in a dimly lit room filled with smoke! On top of this, immediately behind out headboard was the kitchen area! so with the corridor door banging and the dark smoke filled room we were also woken by kitchen staff preparing for breakfast!! Now if this had been a last minute booking I may have understood but we booked a room in MAY for a stay in DECEMBER. on checkout we had to drop our key in a box so nobody to complain to. I would like to ask canal view why such a noisey room was allocated to us with 7 months notice?
It was ok. Our room was very small. Bathroom was sufficient. Really good location though. Overall, not bad, but not excellent, wouldn’t recommend but also don’t have anything particularly terrible to say, it’s a solid MEH.
Visited for a long weekend. Upon arrival we were greeted by a very helpful and friendly member of staff. She checked us in quickly and gave us a rundown of the hotel. Very polite and spoke very good English. The reception is only supervised during the day, up to 6pm (I think) so if you arrive after this time, your keys are left on reception with instructions. They message you instruction via your phone on what to do if this is the case. The room we had was right on the canal. It was a small room, but with very high ceilings. The bed was comfortable enough, but we did find the room was a little cold, although it was very cold outside. We turned the heating up and after a short while the room warmed up. The bathroom was a good size. It only had a shower, no bath. The toilet seat was broken, so we asked the reception staff to have it replaced, which they did. We also only had one very small pillow each, which again they dealt with quickly and efficiently when we asked for more. The location is great. About a 5-10 minute walk into the main squares. Plenty to see and do and many bars and restaurants of every type within a few minutes walk. Breakfast was the usual continental, breads, yogurts, fruit, eggs, meat and cheeses etc
Tiny bedroom where we kept bumping into things that were in the way. No room to even walk around the bed. To get into bed your body would brush against the curtains opening them and when you wanted them closed your body would brush against them opening them! The pillows were terrible. No one around to raise concerns. The "bathroom" was the tiniest I ever came across. The shower head is fixed right above your head so you as soon as you apply wash gel it gets washed away straight away. There is no warning on how hot the taps get so be really careful I and another of our party who brushed against the tap got burnt. Not great. Breakfast very basic
Unique hotel located directly on the canal. Our room was on the first floor and the window opened right above the water. We enjoyed some visiting swans and ducks in the morning. The room, for the value, was very small but comfortable for a single evening. The bathroom was the smallest we had encountered in our travels through Europe...reminded us of a bathroom one might find in a caravan/travel trailer. Breakfast served in their breakfast room was delicious and plentiful. Centrally located within easy walk to many restaurants, shops and sights of Bruges. Hotel does not offer on-site parking, nor validate for parking. Parking is available at a near-by garage which makes hauling luggage through the street a bit awkward but doable. The bathroom is very, very small.
I stayed here with a group of friends the other weekend in October. The hotel is incredibly centrally located but on a nice quiet street with interesting shops and tasty looking cafes. It is only a 2 star hotel and that is evident from the fact that there isn't always a receptionist on duty and you don't get any toiletries in the bathroom. However, my room was perfectly nice - clean, tidy and a comfy bed. The breakfast was really good - eggs, pancakes, croissants and tasty warm bread and then all the usual continental breakfast supplies you'd expect. Staff were very friendly and helpful. The downside of this place was the varying quality and size of the rooms. Me and another friend were fortunate to be in spacious comfortable rooms. However, our two other friends who had paid the same as us through the same website were given rooms that were pretty small with bathrooms that were a bit more like wet rooms. Their bedrooms seemed more the size of a room you'd get in a cabin on a boat. One of the rooms didn't have a bathroom door, just more like saloon swing doors with a gap at the top and bottom. That's a bit public for our liking! I had room 106 and another friend had 109 and both were very good so request those if you can.
Very well located in the centre of Bruges, overlooking the canal and 10 minutes walk to market square and many of the attractions. We had an upstairs room overlooking the courtyard and canal; it was very quiet and the bed was comfortable. The breakfast was good with fresh bread, croissants, boiled eggs and freshly made pancakes among other things. The wifi worked well. The train times given by the hotel for trains back to Brussels were incorrect for a Sunday (when trains are less frequent) so worth checking travel arrangements carefully.
The cost I paid was around 105 E/night. At the exact same price I stayed in Brussels in a fabulous apartment with all new furniture and a real bathroom, also in the center of the city. Do not stay here! If you are a new couple you will get to know each other very very well because of the bathroom. The bathroom is a very very small plastic unit maybe 2 sqm in total that has mold and has no real doors. The door is made of 2 plastic parts but it also has a lot of space below and above it, making it useless against noise/smell. So it's like sleeping in the toilet. The shower water comes from the ceiling and you have to wash your hair every time you shower. Do not use the shower curtain as it is old and dirty. The plastic unit was not clean, I found hair and the towels were yellow/grey. The staff is rude and is not there all day so there's nobody able to help you later in the day. They asked for the money first thing and did not even show us the room before paying. There are signs everywhere to not take food from the breakfast room or you will pay. The breakfast is very low quality, why would I want to take it anyway? Juice tastes like medicine, coffee tastes like dirt. The only nice things here are the view towards the canal with swans and the distance to the city center. But it's not worth it, I'd rather stay farther and with no view.
